When he was a child he often wrote stories, but went away from writing for a while, and got back to it as a young adult, with the encouragement of parents and grandparents. He never thought that he would be successful in writing until he took a creative writing course, and started to renew the enjoyment of writing that he had as a child. It was a great joy when his first book Second Chances was published. Now he spends most of his time reading, writing, and enjoys watching tv shows and movies.

Prologue

In the year since Mike Davis was attacked by the El Dorado street gang, he has transformed into someone, who is better in some respects than the person he used to be. This is in some ways, his physical capabilities are a lot better than they used to be. Mike went from a person who never worked out, other than going for an occasional walk, to an expert in martial arts. He was different in the sense that he had to figure out a way in which to make his relationship with Kathy work.

He didn’t have any idea how he was going to make their relationship work without putting her in more danger than she was already in. Mike knew that the El Dorado Street Gang was after him for some reason, and now they were going after people he cares about. First Kathy, and he didn’t have any idea who they were going to target next, and how much about him they already know.

While Mike is smart he didn’t know that the police were going after the El Dorado street gang too. However, they had ways to go before they would be able to apprehend them. Mike was also wondering if going after them, was going to put him and the rest of the people that he cares about in more danger than they were already in.

Mike is confident in his abilities as a martial artist, but he knew that going after them by himself might be more than he is capable of. He knew that he had to come up with a plan that was going to bring down this gang and keep him and the rest of the people that he cares about safe.

Chapter 1

When Mike left Kathy’s hospital room that night, he didn’t know that she was just pretending to be asleep. She was too disappointed in him to say anything else. Kathy wasn’t angry at him, but she knew that something had to change in their relationship. That way it would make it easier for the relationship to go further. This is something that she thought they both wanted, however, after the past year she wasn’t sure. Mike’s change over the past year and pre-occupation was making it hard to read him, and this something that she was good at before his attack.

They never argued but the secret that Mike was keeping from her was doing more damage to their relationship, than if they had been arguing. The worse part, Kathy thought, was that she could tell that Mike wanted to tell her his secret, but something was preventing him from telling her. Despite the danger that went along with knowing his secret she still wanted him to be honest with her. Kathy knew that she was strong enough to face any danger that she might face, she just wanted to know his secret more than the fear of being attacked again. Kathy wasn’t at all frightened of the gang that has been responsible for both of them being attacked. She isn’t from a Christian background like Mike is, however, like Mike she was brought up in a caring household where her parents showed a lot of love for Kathy and her brother and sister. Losing her brother to an illness, even though they weren’t that close, helped to increase her strength. She still misses him and, while she doesn’t come from a Cristian background, she has a strong belief system. She also shows a lot of kindness towards other people. Being there for her sister and their parents while their brother was sick, increased her strength. She knew that her parents and sister appreciated having her around during a difficult time.

Kathy wasn’t afraid to admit to herself that she couldn’t say anything else to Mike, at least until she knew what was going on with him. She thought about bringing it up herself but decided that it would be a better idea if she let him bring it up. She could tell that he already wants to tell her, but there was something keeping him from opening up to her. While she had her suspicions about what the secret was she still wanted to hear it from him.

Wondering what was holding him back was weighing on Kathy the most, because of how much they have been through together. They should be going through this trial together, without a secret between them. She knew that she needed to know his secret, or it would damage the relationship that they already have together. It could also damage any future relationship they might have together. She figured that it is important that she know his secret soon.

The doctor was waiting outside the door to Kathy’s room, and he waited until Mike left before he entered. Doctor Sanders had been doing his rounds and was happy when he got to Kathy’s room. She was one of his favourite patients, this was partially because she was in a lot better shape than his other patients. While he is a professional who never came on to one of his patients, he couldn’t avoid the fact that she was a very attractive girl. One of his other patients was in serious condition from a car accident, and the other wasn’t in too bad shape physically but complained a lot. The doctor found Kathy to be just the opposite of his other two patients. He went in and checked on her, and told her that she was doing good. He could tell that her mind was elsewhere when she didn’t respond to him. He checked her pulse, and her other vitals, and made an
