Calling Dr. Daniels. Calling Dr. Micah Daniels to the ER. Stat!
I gotta go, babe. I’m being paged,
Micah said to Fancy.
He and Fancy McCoy initially met at this very same hospital when her youngest son, Xavier McCoy, was badly injured in a car accident. However, it wasn’t until months later when they ran into each other again at Holy Rock, of all places.
Stiles Graham was being welcomed as the new assistant pastor and Micah’s pastor was invited to render the message. When he attended the installation services and the banquet afterwards, he was pleasantly surprised to see Fancy. Now that he was no longer in a professional setting, he shot his shot and asked her out. Fancy accepted, and since that day a little less than a year ago, the couple had been enjoying each other’s company.
Micah ended the call, stretched, and then sat up on the side of the full-size bed inside the hospital’s physicians’ quarters. He liked his position as a hospitalist but it still called for some long crazy shifts. Choosing to become a hospitalist was his plan to reduce his stress levels, have more normal working hours, and more time to himself. Things had turned out quite the opposite, and he was just as busy as he was in private practice, but he still loved what he did. Usually, he had to round 15 or 16 patients while being hit with a handful of admissions and emergencies. It could be just as stressful as when he was in practice a few years back with two other internists he’d graduated residency with back in the day.
He splashed a handful of cold water against his face, looked at his smart watch—1:30 a.m. He had been on the phone with Fancy for at least an hour before he was paged. He enjoyed talking to her, a lot. He liked her a lot too. If she could settle herself down,
