"Tread lightly, for in this book is documented only a few of the most challenging and dangerous cases that the great detective, Sherlock Holmes, has ever had to face. Through all my years working by his side I have never seen anyone who could make him second guess himself. That was until the day we met Professor James Moriarty.

So, when you read these cases keep this in mind; Moriarty was a madman and a crime lord. He was the only one we came up against who could match Sherlock Holmes' intelligence. He was cunning, heartless, coldblooded, and deadly.

I am Dr. John Watson, and I have put together some of the most disturbing cases in which we went toe-to-toe with the menace that would become Sherlock's archenemy. These are the crimes of Professor James Moriarty."

Sherlock Puzzle Book (Volume 5) - Crimes Of Moriarty Documented By Dr John Watson - Mildred T. Walker

    CASES

    The Fallen Angel

This was the first time we had witnessed the work of Professor James Moriarty, although we did not know it at the time.

During a particularly lovely day, I thought it a good idea to go out for a walk in the park. The park was only a few blocks down from Baker Street, and it had been ages since I saw Sherlock leave the apartment. It was on this walk that we strolled across a scene at one of the larger complex buildings down the road.

The street was packed with spectators all trying their hardest to get a look at what was happening behind the police tape sectioning off that side of the street. Sherlock was drawn to the scene instantly.

I followed Sherlock through the crowd as he made his way to the police tape. He lifted it out of the way and walked onto the scene as if he belonged there. We spotted Inspector Lestrade outside the complex building and made our way there.

Good day, Inspector Lestrade, what seems to be the cause of the commotion? Sherlock greeted him.

Lestrade sighed, It’s an open and shut case, Holmes. A girl jumped from the building and hit the pavement. It’s a suicide. All we have to do now is find out which floor she jumped from.

She didn’t jump from the roof? Sherlock looked up, examining the building.

Lestrade shook his head. Apparently there isn’t enough damage to the body. They say she must have jumped from somewhere between the 5th and 8th floors.

Sherlock nodded and turned to me. I’m sure Inspector Lestrade won’t mind if we take another look. Can you examine the body Watson, while I inspect the building?

I looked to Inspector Lestrade for confirmation and he gave me a defeated nod. I walked off to examine the young girl's body while Sherlock walked into the building with Lestrade.

I’m told that Lestrade followed Sherlock to every room on that side of the building between the 5th and 8th floors, and stood with him as he continued to open up every window in every room and stick his head out. He would glance down at the street, mutter to himself, and continue on.

When I was done with my examination, I was able to confirm that the girl could not have fallen from the roof. The damage to her body would indicate that she jumped from anywhere between the 5th and 8th floors.

We joined at the front of the building, where Sherlock stood and proudly announced; This was no suicide, Inspector Lestrade. This was a murder.

Both Lestrade and myself were confused by Sherlock's deductions. Can you solve the puzzle of the fallen angel?

    The Unsure Jury

Sherlock once recounted the tale of the first time he met Professor James Moriarty to me. At the time they had both been asked to sit on a jury during a murder case. Usually, Holmes isn’t interested in such things, but he was interested in the case.

A man was charged with the murder of his wife. Her body was never found and there was no evidence that could link him directly with the murder. Still, the police arrested him as he was their only suspect. Sherlock sat on the jury and listened to the whole trial, still, he was not able to solve the case till right at the end of the defense lawyer’s closing statement.

The defense lawyer stood up and announced, "My client's wife is not dead, she is simply missing. She will walk through those courtroom doors in exactly 30
