This book was written in haste. It had a storyline but the storyline went from 0 to 100 in two seconds with no explanation.

Chapter One

Oh, no, no, no. Please don’t do this to me, Meg said as the lights on the dashboard of her car flickered and the motor sputtered. Why in the hell was life always so hard for her? Nothing came easy, and she’d had to fight for everything, and even then, most times, it was ripped from her.

Growing up in the system made her tough, but there were some days she just wanted to lie down, go to sleep, and never wake up. This was one of those days.

The car jerked in her hands, then died. She had no idea where she was, only that it was in the middle of nowhere. But the car wasn’t giving her a choice on where it broke down.

She found a little patch of ground she was able to steer toward and parked.

Dammit, she yelled, hitting her steering wheel with the palm of her hand before she laid her forehead on it and closed her eyes.

Now, what the hell do I do? She couldn’t just sit there. The last town she drove through had been tiny, and she hadn’t seen anything but an old gas station with one pump and no garage, then a few rundown houses.

She picked up her phone and pulled up Google for a map of the area.

She tried looking up towing businesses or garages in the area and couldn’t see any.

The next town was twenty miles away, and it was already getting dark. She was a sitting duck staying in the car, but she had no idea what kind of animals were in the area. Tears stung her eyes, and that just pissed her off.

I’m tougher than this. Pull up your big girl panties, woman, and figure this out.

She got out of the car and looked around. The road was wide open so that she could see for miles both ways. When she looked to the left and saw a cloud of something on the road, she froze. Then she heard the rumble that shook the ground where she stood.

Once she realized it was a group of motorcycles, she debated what to do. If they were just people out for a ride, they might help her. But what if they weren’t?

God, did she have a choice? The closer they came, the more anxious she grew. When she saw leather vests, she glanced around for a hiding place. Too late. They’d seen her. She thought about locking herself in her car but knew they’d be able to get to her with very little effort if they wanted to do her harm.

Meg squeezed her hands into fists when the group slowed down and pulled in behind her.

Oh, God, she whimpered. They were all huge, tattooed, and beyond scary looking. If she didn’t have so much pride, she would have started crying and peeing her pants. Instead, she stiffened, lifted her chin, and waited.

The one in front turned off his bike, put the kickstand down, stood, and walked her way. It didn’t look like he was going to stop, and she found herself taking a few steps back but then gasped when she ran into the back of her car.

He kept coming until he stood a few feet in front of her, and she had to crane her neck to look up at him. The sense of power, authority, dominance, and danger about him overwhelmed her. Her body stiffened in shock when his gaze roamed blatantly over her figure.

She gritted her teeth and narrowed her eyes when he smirked.

What do you want? she said, trying to hide her aggravation, barely succeeding.

His eyebrows rose. You’ve got a big attitude for a little person.

Yeah, and I have to warn you if you try to hurt me, I won’t go down without a fight.

He snorted. Lady, we’re not here to harm you. We thought you might need help. He held his hands out. I swear. We’re not here to hurt you. We don’t hurt innocent people.

She looked at him suspiciously.

I don’t think she believes you, Feral, one of the other men said and laughed.

Feral? That’s your name?

He tipped his head forward.

Why? she asked.

Why what? His brows came down.

Why do you have that name? Your parents didn’t name you that, did they?

She ignored the guys on the bikes when they all laughed.

No, I gave myself that name.

Doesn’t it mean wild or something?

Yeah.

I didn’t have parents.

She couldn’t decipher the look in his eyes because it came and went in a flash.

What your name? he asked.

Meg.

He tipped his head to the car. What’s the problem? You run out of gas?

She snorted. I’m not an idiot. The lights flickered on the dash, and then the car died. Fuck, why couldn’t she keep her mouth under control?

Feral looked over his shoulder at the group of men. Yo, Taz. Come here and check out the car.

Another man parked his bike and walked toward them until he stood beside her.

What, is this the land of the giants? she murmured, making them laugh. They both stood over a foot taller than her and had an abundance of muscles. The tattoos on both of them made them look even more menacing.

She says the lights flickered, and then the car died.

Fuck, Taz said. That doesn’t sound good.

She pressed her fingers against her eyes for a moment, trying to ward off one of her horrible headaches before she looked up at them. The car’s not that old.

No, it’s not. Where did you get it? Taz asked.

I traded in another car for it.

Why?

She gritted her teeth again. She wasn’t going to tell
