Victoria the Friendly Ghost and Other Stories - Dean Rowell

    Chapter 1

    Victoria the Friendly Ghost

It was during the Victorian times when Queen Victoria was on the throne many years ago. Aunt Emma had invited Isabel and Peter to stay for the summer. They arrived at her big house in a horse and carriage.

Aunt Emma had a new governess for the summer who would be teaching the children. She was called Mrs Spence and she would be arranging lessons for them. The children were greeted by the butler who showed them to their rooms.

Victoria glided around the room and swirled around, dancing.

‘Yes. I’m a ghost. Ha, ha, don’t be afraid. It’s a lovely day. Oh dear, Mrs Spence is coming back, I’d better hide quickly behind the curtains again.’

‘See you later,’ said the children, and they giggled as they went back to their desks.

After the lesson, when they were alone, they spoke with Victoria who danced around with them and they laughed together. She just seemed to glide around the room.

After a little while, the children felt tired and decided to sit down.

‘Now then, Peter and Isabel,’ said Victoria. ‘Time for you to get ready for the tea that your mum has cooked for you!’

Victoria vanished and the children had their
