About this ebook

Mace and Shannon Woods are a husband and wife operation that owned a drug empire in Harlem that Bumpy Johnson and Frank Lucas would have bowed down to. The riveting style, class, and swag of the "Woods" had Harlem on edge. Mace and Shannon were untouchable! Sasha and Marcus Woods are twins of Shannon and Mace. Shannon is beautiful, fierce and an enforcer with questions answered after the smoke cleared from her Glock. Mace's demeanor and confidence captivated the five boroughs of NY as he polarized and glamorized the street life for their lifestyle. Terence Carter aka Black Will, and Cory Williams are longtime friends of Mace and Shannon. In Colombia, South America, Mace and Shannon were not to make it out alive courtesy of the snitch in their Harlem crew. Black Will was feared on the streets of Chicago thanks to his #1, Cory, stomping out any known competition. CHAPTER 1

Growing up in Harlem as a little black kid, you could get into many things that would lead you to drugs, gangs, blood money, and death. You would watch the drug dealers living a lavish lifestyle right before your eyes. You would see them driving different cars every day.

They were with different women; each woman is gorgeous! Everyone knows your name. Even the police respect you. You daydream about it and think to yourself, What a life of pleasure and excitement. Marcus wakes up from daydreaming. His parents own a clothing store on 135th Street and Lenox Ave. They live on 140th Street and Lenox Ave. His mother and father have their lives planned out. The money in their safety deposit box at the bank, that they have hidden all these years, is for him and his sister’s college education.

They would repeatedly warn him and his sister that they were not going to be anything that those streets can offer them! Marcus and Sasha, his twin sister, wanted what their parents wanted for their lives. Having a PH. D or an Engineer Degree or being a CEO of a company is what their parents wanted for them, but none of those things were their dreams. They didn’t know how to tell their parents that is not what they wanted.

Marcus is five feet, eleven inches tall and is dark-skinned. He looks just like his Dad from head to toe. He is very clean-shaven. His hair is cut very low with waves in them. He is very athletic and loves to play basketball. His favorite team is the New York Knicks. Marcus weighed about two hundred pounds. He is not as bowlegged as his father is, but slightly.

They did not want to disappoint them because they only wanted the best for him, and his sister, and they knew that.

His parents just adored and loved him and his sister! They were determined to not allow the streets to destroy their lives!

They knew first-hand about the streets of Harlem! Mace and Shannon Woods kept that part of their lives from Marcus and Sasha. They would do anything to not let the streets of Harlem corrupt them.

Marcus and Sasha were seniors this year. Marcus wanted to travel to Africa before he did anything else after graduation. Sasha couldn’t wait to get to Howard University. Their parents could not be prouder of them! Shannon nor her husband, Mace, never graduated from high school!

Mace was a brown-skinned brother that all the ladies wanted to get with. He was six feet, six inches tall and looked like he was chiseled out of granite. He stood head and shoulders above most of the other brothers he ran with in the streets of Harlem. Mace weighed about two hundred and thirty pounds.

Mace loved the streets of Harlem.

His smile attracted women to him all the time. His bowlegs were a main attraction for the women! The brothers all respected Mace, except a few of them that were jealous of him on the down low.

Shannon was dark-skinned and was very beautiful. Shannon had curves that made every man stand still and take notice. Her hair was sassy, short and curly-cropped. She loves her natural black hair. She would never put any perms in her hair. Natural is the way to go, she said to herself.

She could have been anything in life she’d wanted to be if she would have stayed in school.

    She is six feet tall.

She dreamed about working for CNN as a Journalist.

She had all the attributes a man would love to hold onto during the midnight hour.

At sixteen, she made sure the other girls from around the way knew she was Mace’s girl. She had to put hands on Dianne because she thought Shannon was just all talk and a pretty face. Dianne and the other girls found out that day!

Shannon looked like Laila Ali enroute to her championship title fight that day and she never had to worry about another sister concerning her man Mace.

His parents worked hard to keep him and his sister off the mean streets of Harlem.

Trouble would find you without you ever seeing it coming. Tragedy struck the Woods household three months before the twins were to graduate high school. Mace was murdered on his way home one night. He had just closed the store and was three blocks away from home.

A Black BMW with tinted windows pulled up and fired six shots that killed Mace. He tried to make it home, but he had lost too much blood.

Shannon, having a gut feeling, knew something was wrong. She knew something wasn’t right with her husband. He usually calls me and tells me he has left the shop. He hasn’t answered his phone! She called her girl Stacy to come and keep an eye on the kids as they slept! Stacy asked her what was going on. She just said something is not right. I can feel something is wrong. Stacy asked, Is it Mace? That is what I am going to find out, Shannon replied. Shannon left the house and started to pray, asking the LORD to not let anything happen to her husband. I know we have done a lot of wrong but LORD, if you find it in your heart, spare my husband, please. Please don’t let anything happen to him. Please.

As she walks down the block, she sees a crowd.

She walks slowly over to the crowd. She is scared of what she might see! Her heart is pounding in her chest. She pushes her way through the crowd. Her husband’s dead body is lying there in the gutter. She lets out a loud scream, Mace! Mace! Mace! Don’t leave me, Mace. Baby, I need you; the children need you. Please don’t die Mace! Please don’t die.

Somebody killed Mace, shouted a bystander from the crowd! Is that Mace Woods? Nah, that aint Mace, a brother in the crowd said. Mace is an O.G. from way back. Nobody would dare do that! Shannon is holding her man in her arms, sobbing and telling him to come back to her. Mace, baby we need you!

You need to be there for your son! Who is going to walk Sasha down the aisle when she gets married? She screams again very loudly, Mace get up! His bloody body with six holes in it just laid there.

The police finally arrives on the scene! They start telling everyone to step back. They move the crowd back. One officer gets his yellow tape to mark off the crime scene. Some of the cops that pulled up afterwards recognizes that it’s Mace Woods. They allow her some time to sit there and grieve for her husband.

After a while they try and pull her away and she fights them off, screaming at them, telling them not to touch him! Her dress is soaked with Mace’s blood.

Sometime later, Stacy arrives and she sees Shannon sitting in the gutter crying with Mace in her arms. Stacy just sits there by her friend, crying with her. Stacy tries to console Shannon but she just pushes her away.

By this time, the coroner has showed up. Stacy says, Shannon I know this is devastating to you but you have your kids to go home to. Through her tears, she says to Stacy, I have nothing to live for. My man is dead!

Yes, you do - your twins are at home, Stacy tells her.

She tells Shannon that she has to let them take his body. She grabs Shannon and holds her in her arms. Shannon is crying with deep sadness! Stacy is crying with her. They killed my man, Stacy. They killed him! I am going to kill their whole family when I find out who it was, Shannon muttered between indignant sobs on Stacy’s shoulder. You have to go home to your kids, Shannon. There is nothing you can do here now! Stacy leads her shattered friend to her family home.

The next morning Shannon sits Sasha and Marcus down to tell them what happened to their father. Sasha was devastated! Sasha starts yelling and screaming and crying out, Daddy! Daddy! Marcus yells out, Nooo! Marcus starts punching the air yelling, Noooo, not my dad!

Shannon grabs them both and just holds them as they cry. Sasha was his princess, his little black queen! Marcus and Mace were best friends. Their mother tries to console them as best as possible! Sasha sits on the couch just sobbing! Marcus has slid down the wall crying for his father. After about thirty minutes of crying, Sasha curls up into a fetal position, not saying anything. Marcus is holding his mother as she sits on the sofa. As the three of them sit there crying, Shannon decides that she is going to tell her kids the truth about her and their father.

I have to tell you two about your father and I.

Marcus and Sasha look at their mother with somber eyes and said, What are you talking about, momma?

We both thought it would never come to this, Shannon said. We didn’t want you to find out any other way. It would have been your dad’s forty-sixth birthday in three weeks. It is my place to tell you two and not the streets. I know you two always wondered why no one bothered you on the streets.

We did our best to keep you off the streets and keep you safe! No one dared mess with you two because the world would not have been big enough for them to hide from me or your father. We chose that life for us, she said. Shannon is crying harder but wants to tell the story. The streets just swept us up! Your dad was eighteen and I was just seventeen! That life was a cutthroat life. It was kill or be killed! We did what we had to do to survive!"

The twins cannot believe what they are hearing from their mother!

That seems like a lifetime ago, she says to them. She wishes her husband was there to help tell the story, she thinks to herself. The traveling, the drugs, the money, the night life - it just happened for us. Mace and I had made this trip to Colombia, South America for seven years! They knew us and we knew them.

This one particular time, something happened that never happened before. We had just landed and made our way to meet Enrique. Enrique was our supplier and friend in Colombia! We would pay Enrique the money for our drugs and he would ship them to our designated location in New York. We hopped out the cab at his house and looked around. It was about ten o’clock p.m. when we arrived at his house. Your father gave me the look as if to say something is wrong.

We from Harlem and we know when something is wrong. It doesn’t matter what part of the world you are in. Enrique comes out looking real strange. He tries to act like everything is alright, but we know better. We exchanged pleasantries and he invites us in. We have over $100 million dollars with us. This buy and sell was going to put us out of the game once it was done! We were going to raise you two without the outside distractions. Enrique had five children of his own. We had talked about this with him in the past. Enrique was a true friend. We could always depend on him no matter what and vice versa.

He congratulated and thanked us for wanting to get out the game and take care of our children. They need a stable home environment, we told him! Getting out the game while we could raise our children was the plan.

Enrique starts talking to us with haste. He wanted to do this transaction and get it over with. Enrique wants to let his guests know what was going on without getting them all killed in the process. Shannon has been looking out the window to see what activity was going on outside. She sees a few men outside that she doesn’t recognize.

She gives Mace the eye! Mace takes out a pen and piece of paper. He starts telling Enrique where he needs to send this shipment. Enrique says to him, Yes, it will be fine my friend.

Now Mace and Enrique are on the same page with Shannon. They know they are going to have to kill or be killed to get out of Colombia.

There was this young Colombian kid name Eduardo that wanted to make a name for himself. He had been killing and robbing in the villages on the outskirts of town but that wasn’t enough for him. He wanted to take control of the businesses that Enrique had. He told his crew this was the time to make their move on Enrique and Mace.

Eduardo had Enrique’s family held hostage in the Bungalow next door with his soldiers guarding them. They knew about the $100 million dollar transaction from his American contact. Mace didn’t know it but there was a snitch in his crew. The snitch had set Mace, Shannon, and Enrique up for the kill.

His third in charge wanted to take over his businesses in Harlem. He had all the people in place once Mace and Shannon were killed in Colombia. Shannon said she was going to the bathroom. She knew Enrique kept guns there for emergencies. Mace asked Enrique where his wife and kids were. The kids were always there when they came. The kids called them Tío Mace and Tía Shannon over the years. Mace says to Enrique, Let me see what is taking my wife so long in the bathroom. Mace shows Shannon the note him and Enrique were writing. His wife and kids were being held hostage in the bungalow next door.

Mace comes out by himself. Eduardo and three of his men has Enrique on his knees on the floor! Tonight is your last transaction with this weakling, amigo. Your money is my money! My friend Boogie and I are the connection now! Eduardo has a gun at Enrique’s head! He asks Mace, Where is that nigga wife of yours? If she doesn’t come out in ten seconds, you and this weakling will meet your maker. Comprende! Mace says to him she has come out. Eduardo says, No more games!" Eduardo tells his compadres to kill Mace and Enrique. Shannon has made her way to the front door behind the men! She kicks open the door and starts firing with both guns in her hands. Mace dives for cover and Enrique drops to the floor. When the shooting is done Eduardo and his boys are dead. Enrique gets up and takes a gun from Shannon and shoots Eduardo five more times and spits on him.

He thanks Shannon and Mace for saving his life. Shannon had put silencers on each gun so the men holding Enrique’s family would not hear what had taken place. Enrique is fuming that he allowed Eduardo to infiltrate his home. I am going to kill his whole familia! To which Shannon responds, Let’s go get your familia first, Enrique. The three of them walk out towards the bungalow in the dark. One guard is outside at the front door. The other four are inside with the family. Shannon tells Mace and Enrique to hold tight for a minute. She walks to the front where the guard is with her hands in the air. Her blouse is completely open with no bra on! The guard sees this black beauty and his mouth drops open. The moonlight is shining on Shannon as she walks toward him. His eyes are feasting on her breasts! He is pointing his gun at her. She motions to him to come and get some! He lowers his gun and she reaches for her gun with the quickness and fires a shot to his head.

He falls dead in front of her! Enrique has made it to the back of the bungalow to see his wife and kids tied up. Shannon opens the front door and comes through with her hands up. Her blouse is still open. The guards take aim to shoot her, but Enrique kills them from the back window. Shannon buttons up her blouse and rushes to his family. Enrique comes in and grabs his wife and kids and hugs and kisses them with much passion.

Mace says to Shannon, You better be glad those men are dead! You and the open blouse thing; that will never ever happen again. Word is bond! She just laughs at him and said, It worked, didn’t it?

Enrique was so thankful to his American friends that he told them not to worry about the snitch back home. He would take care of that for them. "Give me his location; it is done my friends. I am in your debt for saving me and my family! In the future, whatever else you need taken care of - just call me, it is done, my friends! Shannon, Mace - you are familia. This will never be forgotten!

Your familia is my familia; my familia is your familia! I give you my word," Enrique said!

The three of them are sitting in the living room still crying about their father. Aghast, Sasha said, Momma, no way you and Dad lived that kind of life. You two were well-respected around here.

Why do you think that is so? Shannon said to her. You and dad? Marcus said. Why?

Shannon explained to them: "This was the kind of lifestyle we chose. We did our best to keep you two away from it. Your dad and I would have never allowed either one of you to be in the streets like we were.
