Chapter 1

The walk down the hall from the bedroom to the foyer is bathed in striped sunlight from the 10 foot windows that line the front of our house. My long silky robe billows behind me as I rush to the kitchen to grab my coffee from the microwave. I’ve been lethargic in the mornings lately, and caffeine has been hard boiled into my brain as a necessity. Some days I flit around in that first hour for so long that I end up reheating one cup three times. I’ve seen the mushroom water ads…the coffee-free alternatives that basically claim to change your entire insides and magically take all your issues far away. I’d like to believe that’s true but my vice loving belly tells me otherwise.

Faintly, I hear my husband getting ready in the bedroom and wonder when we can make some time for sex.
