Introduction
Unnoticed by mankind on a warm and hot summers evening, something happened that would destroy the dreams and life of two young people and change the world forever.
The young couple, Frank and wife Amber, had worked hard for ten years to start a dream and own a small part of Australia.
At last their dream became possible.
An old farm went up for sale. They had saved just enough money for the deposit.
The farm was just what they had been looking for.
A little run down but with a coat of paint and some elbow grease, they were soon able to turn their dream into reality.
But this was all to change.....
Six months after buying the property, just when they thought everything appeared to be going as planned.
Their dream became a nightmare.....
The beginning!
CHAPTER 1
The day was hot and dry. You couldn’t see too the horizon as a huge, thick, red tinged cloud hung in the air.
Amber was out on the patio reading a magazine, after finishing her morning work.
Her dog, Hades a cross breed, lay besides her trying to catch a fly that had rudely landed on his bone that he had been eating.
Amber sat up on the sofa, flicked her long black hair from her face.
Let’s go for a ride, Hades
, she said,
She took a bridle from a nail on the wall, threw it over her shoulder and made her way to the stables.
Her horse, Moon Star, greeted her, Let’s go for a ride Moon Star!
Amber reached into her pocket and gave Moon Star a sugar cube.
She bridled Moon Star, hugged her horse then mounted her.
Hades waged her tail, knowing they were all going for a gallop.
They slowed to walking pace towards a dirt track with Hades following behind.
The bush around them was thick and alive with the noise of insects.
A wallaby jumps past but Hades new not to run after it.
Gum trees perfume the air and bright yellow wattle flowers covered the track.
They followed the track for a good kilometer.
Then something caught Amber’s eye.
Just off the track Amber noticed a clearing, she knew was never there before.
She jumped from her horse to investigate.
Hades begins to bark loudly.
What’s wrong?
Amber asked. She looked around and she couldn’t see anything.
Hades was now at the edge of the clearing, barking as if she has seen a snake.
Hades continued to bark.
What’s wrong?
Amber asked again, looking around.
Still she could see nothing.
Hades is still barking and now growling.
Amber knelt down to have a closer look.
As she looked it appeared the edge of the clearing was moving.
Amber called Hades away and hung onto her collar.
Still watching, dog is still barking and growling, her horse now uneasy, she walked towards her.
Moon Star had never been a problem horse, so Amber could not understand why she was so edgy.
With dog and horse uneasy, Amber jumped onto Moon Star, she called Hades and they hurried home.
Back home, she was greeted by Frank. He winked at her, with his deep green eyes.
Frank held the horse as Amber dismounted.
‘’What’s up! What’s the hurry?"he asked.
It’s probably nothing
, Amber replied.
"Hades and Moon Star were on edge, when we went riding.
There’s a clearing off the track that was not there before, made them uneasy.
Have you noticed it at all?"she asked.
I will make us some lunch and you and I can go for a walk, see what you think", she remarks.
Amber walks the horse to the stables.
Over lunch Amber explained to Frank what she had seen, and how the animals reacted
Could have been a fox around?
Frank remarks.
Maybe
, Amber shrugged.
After a light lunch of ham, tomatoes and cheese rolls, Frank and Amber go for a walk.
Hades didn’t want to go with them.
Not like Hades, she always wants to follow us, hope she’s not sick
, Frank said to Amber a bit unsure.
Hades crawled under a table on the deck, her ears back, just looking as Frank and Amber as they made their way down the track.
The afternoon warm and muggy hand in hand carrying a glass of champagne they go for a walk to see what Amber was so worried about.
When they reached the clearing Amber began to shake.
Frank, this is bigger than when I saw it just before
.
What do you mean
? Frank asked.
Truly, it was not this big, the clearing has become bigger
, she stepped back.
Frank is standing at the edge of the clearing looking around amazed.
Lighting
he tells her.
No Frank, we have not had a storm for some time, and I am telling you, it has grown bigger
.
Franks laughing, he was just about to walk over the clearing when a big lizard runs across and over the clearing.
The lizard jumped in the air, hissed, frothy saliva ran from its mouth.
The flesh falls from its bones, and disintegrates before their eyes.
Amber screamed hysterically.
Frank just stood in shock
Amber was still shaking, when Frank finally came out of shock, he gives her a hug.
Frank walked back to the edge of the clearing still amazed, as if not able to believe what he had just seen, he looked around, bent down and picked up a stick and threw it into the clearing.
He watches as it disintegrates before his eyes.
Frank repeated to do this, so overwhelmed by what was happening, Frank sighs, turns to Amber not knowing what to say.
What they were observing hardly seemed possible.
Yet it was happening.
There must to be a simple explanation for this
, Frank explained to Amber.
Frank tried not to look to concern as Amber was already upset.
It’s getting late. We should head home
,Frank takes Amber’s hand together they head for home.
Frank tells Amber he will ring someone in the morning, to come out and have a look.
With that they head home.
Amber walked to the stable, Moon Star was there
