Chapter 1. Hello, my Name is Tina!
Where is the best place to start a story? Perhaps I should first greet you and introduce myself: Hello, my name is Tina! My height is average, I am a brown-haired, twenty-three years old. In a past life I was a dog! And now I work in the Otherworldly Delivery Service, in the Pet Affairs Department!
Although, perhaps you are surprised by such a greeting. Yes, from the outside it really may seem unusual. For a quite reasonable question arises: what kind of past life? And what does ‘was a dog’ mean?
This means that before I was born a human, I really was a dog in the 19th century. To be more precise, the poodle, peach color. I lived with a wonderful lady in Prague.
But after my Earthly path as a poodle came to an end, I was reborn on Earth again, but already in a human body. And at first I didn't know anything about my past life...
The question again arises, how did I find out about my past incarnation? And what is this Otherworldly Delivery Service? What about the Pet Affairs Department? Indeed, this is an interesting story. Therefore, it will probably be better if I tell you about everything in order.
In this life, I was born in a small city, of which there are a great many in this world. My parents are the most ordinary couple. My father still works in a car service, and my mother is a veterinarian.
Probably, since my mother was engaged in the treatment of animals, I loved them very much since childhood. And there were certainly pets in our house. Most often, they were abandoned: the owners, for various reasons, could no longer take care of them, and left them in the veterinary clinic, and not in a shelter. But in the end, good new owners were found for the animals (or they were taken home by the clinic staff, including my mother).
For example, when I was very young, a wonderful husky lived in our house. Great smart dog! Unfortunately, his previous owner, an elderly man, could no longer take care of him: his health did not allow him. He survived a stroke, and his son and his wife decided to take him to live in another city. But his son had a little daughter with a severe allergy to animals.
None of his friends agreed to take his husky either. The elderly man no longer knew what to do, but when he brought his pet to the veterinary clinic where my mother worked, he told his story. He was a regular customer, bringing his pet regularly for checkups and vaccinations. Mom took pity on the poor husky and his owner, and decided to take the pet to her. Dad had nothing against it, and I was completely delighted. After all, like most children, I dreamed of a dog! And then such happiness: the big beautiful husky!
By the way, for some reason the name of the husky was Pie. Probably because he has very rounded shapes. And for his breed, he was somewhat overweight.
But that's not the point. Pie has been with us for two years. And so, one day, when I went to school (and that year I just entered the first grade), my mother came to pick me up after school. She looked very upset, her eyes were red with tears. I then asked:
Mom, what happened? Have you been crying? Why?
Mom hesitated for a moment, as if choosing her words. Finally she answered:
You see, Tina... As you know, before Pie came to live with us, he had a different owner. Temporarily he could not take care of his pet, but now he returned, and decided to take Pie to him. Pie himself was also delighted to be reunited with his owner. And they left together.
I remember that it shocked me to the core. How is it that Pie lived with us, but now he doesn't? Is it fair? Although, his previous owner, probably, also missed his pet all this time... And the dog himself also probably missed him...
I was upset by this news, but I reasoned that Pie would probably be happy with the previous owner. After all, sometimes he sat at the window for so long, as if he was waiting for someone!
Later, I found out the truth. It turns out that the day I left for school, Pie died. He just died quietly and peacefully... After all, for a dog, he was already of a very advanced age. My parents didn't want to upset me, so they made up a story that the dog was taken by his former owner.
After Pie left, we soon had a cat. This did not happen without my participation. It all started with the fact that I, along with my friends, went to play in the park.
It was a wonderful spring day. The scents of herbs and flowers hung in the air, and the sun shone brightly.
Flowers were always planted in the park of our city in spring. Especially beautiful were the flowerbeds with bright yellow tulips and irises. Parents walked with their children and dog-lovers with their pets.
Since the city was considered calm, during the daytime, school-age children like me were allowed to walk in the park unaccompanied by adults. Of course, not all alone, but in the company of friends of the same age.
So I went with my friends Annie and Greta that day to play in the park. It was not far from our homes (we lived next door, so we were friends from early childhood).
We quickly made our way to the park. As always, there were many wonderful tulips in the flower beds. Dog-lovers and parents with children walked along the paths. We headed to our favorite playground, which is located a little away from the walking paths.
Usually children always played there: the younger ones played in the sandbox. And the older ones went down the slide.
But this time, for some reason, there was no one. At least, it seemed so at first glance. For, after a few moments, we suddenly noticed some high school students to the side. They were talking excitedly about something and laughing loudly. One of them, the largest and most unkempt, said:
And let's bury this cat in the sand and throw small stones at it!
But there are some girls there! They will see us and complain to someone!
objected another high school student who looked smarter.
What will these little ones do? There are no adults around right now!
the first guy waved his hand.
At first, my friends and I did not understand what it was all about. Suddenly, the high school students turned around, and we noticed how the leader of their company was holding by the scruff of a small white kitten with huge blue eyes full of fear.
In a moment it dawned on me what it was about. Suddenly, I realized that these, to put it mildly, most unpleasant personalities want to bury the kitten in the sand! These big guys want to hurt the helpless little animal! I never understood people who harm animals! How is it even possible?
Meanwhile, another high school student, noticing that we were watching them, made a scary face and hissed at us:
What are you looking at, little ones? Get out of here!
My friends got scared and hesitantly stepped back. They clearly did not know what to do: we all felt very sorry for the kitten, but three seven-year-old girls against a group of five high school students are clearly helpless.
I decided
