Worth Her Name - Liza de Groot

    Chapter I

    A beautiful dream

L ook at this cookie cutter! - Grandmother said, - Isn't it nice? Now, we will cut a beautiful star shape out of the dough. Do you want to try this by yourself? Determined, Nettie grabbed the cookie cutter and turned her whole attention to the piece of dough in front of her. She firmly pressed the cutter into the dough and a star shaped cookie appeared before her eyes! The five years old girl gasped, enchanted by the little miracle she has just created. I did it, grandmother! Do you like it? - She asked a bit shyly. You did very well, my dear dolly! There is still some dough left. We can make ten more cookies, or maybe, even eleven! Let's make them together! - Nettie shouted impatiently, and together they cut cookies in beautiful shapes and put them into the oven.

Time was flying by quickly and very soon, the cookies appeared to her sight, perfectly baked, crispy and fragrant. Nettie took a sip from her cute little tea cup and reached for a cookie...

    Wake up, Nettie!

Wake up, dear, time to go to school!

You will be late, Nettie. Hurry up!

The girl opened her eyes, still mesmerized by her dream, her eyes searching through the room to find there were no grandmother and no cookies. Nettie sighed. Four years ago, her grandmother left this world, but she kept visiting Nettie in her dreams to cheer her up and sometimes, to wake her up, so the girl wouldn't be late for her classes.

Nettie put on her dress quickly, ate her breakfast, took her school bag with her and left home. The sun was shining brightly and the birds were singing loudly. Soon her mood became better.
