Rev. Ellen Wallace Douglas

Rev. Douglas is a retired drug counselor, an ordained Christian Metaphysical minister. She served as pastor at Trinity Temple of the Holy Spirit and the Church of Religious Science of the Capital District, both in Albany, New York. After retiring Rev. Douglas presented several guest sermons for seven years at Unity Church of the Southern Tier, in Endwell, New York. When Archangel came to bring the wisdom of the ages, Rev. Douglas was blessed to be in the audience. Gabriel's lessons in truth impelled her to pass on his teachings through her writing, which has always been inspired by spirit. Rev. Douglas is mother of four children, grandmother of nine, and great-grandmother of eight. She resides in Avon, New York.

MONDAY

False Teddy Bears

"To worship God, to pray, to meditate is all the same; know the Father. And to know the Father, you must live the Father, and to live the Father, you must go beyond perception, beyond your false teddy bears into the truth of life." (I AM GABRIEL, Book 2, 278).

In early September of 1988, Archangel Gabriel gave us several hours of education at a weekend retreat in the Adirondack Mountains. In this brief phrase, he succinctly provided us with the whole of what our learning must be. This was the first full year that Gabriel came to teach a handful of devoted students. Little did we know then that we all planned to sit there and hear the eternal messages of God’s great archangel? There would be eleven more years of bi-monthly lessons. Some joined Gabriel’s group of students; others came and left. There was a core of about thirty who heard every seminar and attended every evening discourse.

The Master Teacher, Jesus the Christ, once said, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. (Matt.28:20) We have taken it to mean that Jesus is only with us when we pray, meditate, or seek his help. Twenty centuries after his glorious resurrection the Christ visited Earth to bring through Helen Schucman lessons for today’s population. Today’s earthly residents are now ready for the truth. Gabriel stated that the Christ Light is in all of us, and is eternal. Jesus was a human expression of that perfect Light which is God manifested. The lessons received by Helen were taken down by her in shorthand. Her co-worker, William Thetford, assisted in translating them into English. A Course in Miracles was born. Gabriel said his lessons will help us to comprehend the Course.

Gabriel explained that A Course in Miracles is the bible of the New Age. The new age is Aquarius. The Age of Pisces began with Jesus’ birth. The Age of Pisces was the last age of our devolvement away from the Father of Creation. We never left God. We only think we did. The Age of Aquarius is the first age of our conscious journey back home. The Course is not an easy read, which is why groups gather to share interpretations and ideas surrounding it.

Thirty years after the publication of the Course, the Christ came again, this time through Mari Perron, to bring us A Course of Love. From its Foreword we quote,

Where the original Course in Miracles was a course in thought reversal and mind training, a course to point out the insanity of the identity crisis and dislodge the ego’s hold, this is a course to establish your identity and to end the reign of the ego, (C: P.8)

In the forty-five years since the Course was first published, only a relatively few people have heard of it. In 1975 much of the world was enjoying too much prosperity to think another world could be better. Few people took time to meditate on a new idea. The new idea was that everything we see is transient and the only real world is spirit. We cannot see spirit (I Cor.2:14) and so we readily deny its existence. Our ego maintains the false concept that if we cannot see it, it does not exist.

Gabriel told us that we [humankind] are ready for the truth . . . or I would not have come, he said. Since I began studying the Course I have asked many people if they have heard of the A Course in Miracles. Most have told me that they never heard of it. Gabriel’s lessons in truth are now available in print and online. YouTube offers a video showing beloved Reverend Penny channeling Gabriel, with a microphone in her hand, presenting his lessons in truth for all to hear. Gabriel’s lessons were not convoluted, complicated, or difficult to understand. His audience was a group of ordinary men and women who worked for a living. We always had the opportunity to ask Gabriel questions. In this way, his teachings were clarified to help all future listeners to comprehend the lessons.

In addition to Gabriel, eleven Ascended Masters came to Earth with the same lesson, that we are Children of God. These Ascended Masters are entities who once lived on Earth but awakened to their truth and ascended. Now they come to earth to teach us, their brothers and sisters.

Gabriel and the Christ have come at this time to wake us up. They are teaching us nothing new. They are reminding us that we are already accomplished because God created us as perfect and eternal spirit.

The only other choice we have is to remain asleep to our innate divinity and remain on the karmic wheel of illusion. God gave us imagination and free choice. We have imagined some horrendous things. We have made some unconscionable choices. We must choose, someday, to wake up and give up our belief in false teddy bears.

If you are physical, your mind is gone from your self-concept, for it has no place in which it could be really part of you. If you are spirit, then the body must be meaningless to your reality. (ACIM W pt. 1, 96: 3:6-7)

TUESDAY

Learning and Knowing

"The Holy Spirit, seeing where you are but knowing you are elsewhere, begins His lesson in simplicity with the fundamental teaching that truth is true. This is the hardest lesson you will ever learn and in the end the only one." (ACIM T 14: II: 2:1-2)

The Holy Spirit, ‘knowing we are elsewhere’ means that we perceive ourselves as human bodies on Earth, when the Holy Spirit sees us as spirit entities, wandering off time and again, to occupy a physical planet.

I do not recall how the above excerpt first affected me. But in my remembering of the many lessons in truth which Gabriel taught, I understand now the meaning of ‘the hardest lesson.’ Many things presented to us by Gabriel were very hard indeed to accept. The fact that we plan our lives before birth was an astounding concept. Gabriel came for twelve wondrous years to awaken us to our truth, to inform us that we have been asleep to our innate divinity for age upon age. Gabriel reminded us of Adam’s deep sleep in Eden, and then shocked us with, Nowhere in that book does it say Adam woke up! The reader is encouraged to read or hear all Gabriel’s lessons in truth but be prepared for amazing facts which are hard to accept, at first. Gabriel said he came when he did because we are ready for truth. Until we accept the truth, we will not be set free. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)

The written history of humankind is permeated with the concept that we learn from others. Parents, teachers, professors, role models, supervisors, managers all impart to others their knowledge. Knowledge itself has taken on a value. We admire those who have attained educational degrees. Our very health is dependent on highly educated and trained medical doctors. We seek spiritual comfort and religious answers from members of the clergy. Many of us seek an accountant to file our tax returns. The government has a department that examines the food we eat so we can buy and eat food with impunity. We learn new employment from those who have been so engaged for many years. We are all learners, in some sense of the term. Scientists ‘discover’ new medicinal treatments, identify new planets in the boundless sky, invent new technical tools, like television and cell phones, and the internet. We are beginning to realize that there is sameness in the human family of God.

Now we embark on a new adventure. Now we begin a new life in the Age of Aquarius upon the earth. This is the time when learning will come to an end, and instant knowing will be the method by which we shall live. For example, Gabriel informed us that Mr. Edison, who experimented with a hundred elements to find the one which worked as the proper filament for his electric light bulb, could have known immediately what element was necessary if he had accessed the truth from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit, part of the triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) is the imparter of wisdom, is our holy instructor, and is available day and night. To Him, we must turn from this time on. He will not come without our request. He never fails to respond when we do ask for His help. Faith will open the door to receiving every answer to every question we can put to the Holy Spirit. As part of God, He is all-knowing. Referring to the opening citation, the Holy Spirit ‘seeing where you are’ means he sees us as beams of light, clothed temporarily in the flesh of our own making. The Holy Spirit ‘knowing you are elsewhere’ means that we think we are mere bodies, unworthy of or incapable of, following the Master Teacher, Jesus. We think we do not know anything unless we learn it from others.

In the days ahead we will slowly but surely learn how to access truth at anytime, anywhere, directly from the Holy Spirit. Slowly, because Gabriel said it takes about two thousand years for humans to learn something new. Surely, because God is sure. God is eternal, and so are we. If there were no God, we could not exist. That is because the essential Self, which is Spirit, is part of the Living God. Scripture clearly states that the Kingdom of God is within us – all of us, regardless of religious beliefs. This concept was clarified, for me, by Gabriel’s words, Every cell of your body has spirit nucleus.

WEDNESDAY

Condensed Education

What you now learn in twelve years you will someday learn in two. Archangel Gabriel

It is unimaginable that this statement could be a true prophecy, but surely Gabriel did not come to play games with us, or to tease us, or to cast doom. He said we cast enough doom all by ourselves. What method could we apply to absorb twelve years of learning into two years?

I make a bold suggestion: nursery mediums could be hired to telepathically contact the child. Identifying the talent of a toddler narrows the textbook education. This narrowing allows more time to focus on character traits, psychology, and chosen physical activities. Balance is essential to a self-confident person. It is essential in the new education pattern, also.

The first bit of information the nursery medium must seek is what experiences the embryo’s spirit has planned and what lessons are sought from the lessons. In other words, what is the spirit’s lesson plan for this particular lifetime?

Methods of learning must be addressed. Based on Edgar Cayce’s example, and estimating one textbook for each subject, from 1st grade through high school completion might constitute about one hundred textbooks. One hundred books would require five hundred minutes or less than nine hours. Of course, this estimate does not consider physical education (gym), science labs, lunch, or study hall time. Such accelerated learning may even exclude formal education as we now know it.

Primarily, one must be willing to participate in this fast-track learning experience. This willingness becomes evident in the first five years, as the nursery medium communicates with the child. All topics would be taught, but not to all students. When a person seems to lack the capacity for learning one subject, that subject could be abandoned. The identified talent in the child would be nurtured. When the youngster is about eighteen, the mind willingly and eagerly opens to direct guidance from spirit. Direct guidance can be called inspiration. Constant inspiration is only possible with constant faith; then knowingness.

Gabriel explained that every invention came from above. He said if Edison had tuned into spirit he could have known the ideal substance for an electric bulb filament instead of experimenting with one hundred elements. Gabriel said that there are many inventions on the other side just waiting for a human to imagine their possibility.

So far we have considered learning through high school. What about graduate degrees? When a person has mastered all the fundamental aspects of a subject, she is able to comprehend new additions to the basics. For example, Calculus cannot be learned until math,
