About this ebook
There are always going to be disappointments in families; that some family members don’t feel they belong with each other and don’t necessarily agree with one another. Some members of a family feel they are above their siblings. However, what should always bind family members together is the fact that they share a bloodline and other important similarities that embody their very being. This cannot be discounted.
It is important that families tie up loose ends, though invisible with the naked eye but these ends are still there, mind-wise and in thought. This is an important factor that should bind family together so that they can be a counted part of a unit and not be considered so different, changed and/or separated.
We all know that there is strength in numbers and this also goes for families, who draw strength from each other. Each member of a family must help to complete each and every member of that family so that each one encourages each other in a positive manner during their own generation and for each generation that will come after them.

CHAPTER 1
M Y MOTHER AND FATHER, Jasper and Zoey Greene, lived in Henderson, Nevada in the early 1950’s. My mother and father moved to that city so she could join her sisters, Audrey and Ellie, and her brothers, Adlee and Basil, who came to Henderson from Portland, Maine. Aunt Audrey who had 9 children, with her husband Lucious, brought her children to Henderson, Nevada with her. Their father Lucious had passed away.
Jasper and Zoey are the parents of 10 children. Three of my siblings were born in Henderson, Nevada, 3 of us were born in St. Petersburg, Florida as our mother and father lived there for a couple of years. The rest of my siblings were born in Joliet, Illinois. Our father Jasper also had 4 other children outside the marriage, Asher, Ella, Alexander and Isabella.
During this time of my life, I had no idea that mom was harboring a very dark secret, one that she never shared with any of us. I thought, as most children would, having older brothers and sisters would be a good thing, but in my family, it wasn’t.
Maggie was the oldest of all the children in the house, and more stand-off-ish. She didn’t really communicate with the rest of us. I assumed she felt she was not a part of the family. Maggie was the kind of person that did her own thing. I guess she figured that with her being the oldest, that she had special privileges and that she could do what she pleased. She was just into herself.
Maggie was about 16 or 17 years old when she started going out with her friends quite a lot. We didn’t know at that time that she had a boyfriend. She would go out often, especially on Friday evenings. Maggie eventually got pregnant and that really stirred things up. Our mother went off and fussed at her a lot. Our father told her that this family don’t have time for no babies. Besides, we have enough mouths to feed as it is, without adding anymore.
Mom said babies need a lot of care and as you kids get older, Maggie will have trouble getting any of you to babysit anyway."
Mom told Maggie that she had to move out and go somewhere else to live. Our mom said, let somebody else take care of you, we are not about to.
Maggie moved in with a lady named Effie and stayed at her place throughout her pregnancy. After the baby was born, Maggie remained with Effie for several years. Maggie had a resentment toward our parents because she was forced to move out.
I myself, could not understand why my sister had to leave because to me, at such a time as having a child without a husband, a girl needs her family. I said to myself if something like that happened to me, I guess I would be out the door too.
Mom and dad told the rest of us not to ever go out and carry on like our sister Maggie did, because it would only lead to a life without the benefit of marriage; in other words, as girls, we could end up with babies and then we also would have to move out. They said they were not going to take on another mouth to feed.
I tried to contact Maggie, just to see how she was doing and to check on her. However, all of my efforts were in vain. I had lost my sister, which seemed to be FOREVER, I thought. And of course, I had not seen her child, which turned out to be a girl named Bree.
For several years thereafter, I did not hear from Maggie or anything about my niece. Her name was not mentioned too often
