    Foreword

    In this new sixth book, Paul Zeppelin allows his rhymed verses to tenderly caress or even roughly plow every facet of human lives and our coexistence as such.

    His wording is intriguing and magnetically captivating, challenging and demanding our full attention.

    His poems are seamlessly structured so every word and its sound occupy a distinct location like in a stream of notes in a harmoniously and elegantly composed music.

    This poet often lifts the curtain and lets us see our losses and gains, our failures and achievements.

    A wonderful read.

    Am I still battling windmills?

    The Windshield Views

    The Windshield views

    Run through these dazzling streets and avenues;

    Only the rearview mirrors part our illusions from realities;

    The nightmares from the brightest days of our dualities,

    Or better yet, keep far apart our polar personalities.

    Only the joy of glancing into evasive paradise

    Squares with the cheery sunrays dancing on the melting ice,

    Or better yet, the most unnerving chancing of the thrown dice;

    Life is a gambling ticket. We pay the purchase price.

    I Am its Singing Swan

    I love the yachts of Monte Carlo,

    The bright casinos in the harbor,

    I see the shy Rachmaninoff,

    Nicknamed a Russian Sable.

    He keenly rakes his money off

    The green cold-blooded table.

    Feodor Chaliapin shatters glasses

    With sounds of his mighty bass,

    Anna Pavlova gracefully passes,

    Wrapped in the filigree of lace.

    The captivated idle masses

    Catch glimpses of her veiled face.

    I see the happy Isadora with Sergei

    Already loaded in the light of day,

    There are Picasso and Matisse,

    Miss Baker doing her striptease,

    Maestro Diaghilev runs his ballet,

    Although, at night all cats are gray.

    The cheery droves,

    The lively beasts,

    The days of bliss

    Among the fauves,

    The moving feasts

    Of Russian émigrés.

    The paradise of Monte Carlo,

    Sparkly casinos in the harbor,

    The silver epoch long has gone,

    I stayed.

    I am its singing swan.

    I’m Alone Against the Sea

    The starry sky already fell,

    Only seagulls are left to scream,

    Am I in Heaven or in Hell?

    Or am I trapped in a silly dream?

    I’m alone against the sea,

    Like Hemingway’s old man,

    As tides of a sadistic glee

    Rotate my dinghy like a fan.

    Like a naughty hooligan,

    Dawn sends down a breeze,
