Foreword
Paul Zeppelin’s masterfully written, vivid imagery passionately invites the reader to walk beyond the boundaries of their daily thoughts and emotions and helps them discover the layers of hidden happiness and suffering, of love and hate, of compassion and indifference. Paul’s poetry is a multifaceted precious stone sharply reflecting his philosophy of hope and conveys his views and doubts, which are often controversial, yet always substantive through every verse. It triggers an intellectual or emotional response that may linger forever.
Epilogue
Reality only reveals itself when it is
illuminated by a ray of poetry.

A Circus Left My Town
A circus left my town,
You heard the cheers,
I stayed. I am the clown
Who wipes your tears.
Look into my eyes,
Into these saddest wells.
Can’t see the skies
Or even a home to dwell?
A circus left my town,
New dreams come true,
I am still a gloomy clown
Who laughs into the blue.
I’ve sinned, I fought,
I didn’t love my foes,
Even in youth, I sought
A path from joys to woes.
Excitement left my daily maze,
I morphed into a self-effacing jester,
I am performing misery these days,
A sad burlesque is my ancestor.
A basement cannot be a gable,
I can’t become a fiddler on the roof,
I played the Jack but never ran the table,
I laughed through tears in every spoof.
A bird may sing a song
And dive into the night,
Only a clown can’t be wrong
Enjoying silence of moonlight.
A circus left my town,
I stayed, I am a clown.
A Crystal Shrine
I listened to your farewell song
Plunging into me out of nowhere,
The words were deathly wrong,
Your heart was never there.
I liked the language of your book
As sharp as your sarcastic mind,
You used an ax in every nook,
For our lies were tightly intertwined.
The ice masked our tiny creek
As if that wintry crystal shrine
