Gary T Brideau

I was born in a small house in Brooklyn, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1947 and moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut as a small boy. I met Lauren, the love of my life in1985 and were married years later and moved to Bristol, Connecticut. One night, I had a vivid dream that caught my attention, that spurred me to write it down, and sent it to my sister T. Jene Brideau, for an interpretation who also is a writer. She wrote and told me that the story was good. I took her encouragement and my imagination went to work. That’s when I discovered my God-given talent to write great space adventures stories. From then on, I have written over fifty stories of which only seven of them have been published with great reviews.

    Epilogue

In George’s barn an hour and 20 minutes later, the door creaked as Martha slowly opened it and entered. Scanned the inside then, climbed the ladder to the hayloft. She then whispered, Ruthie, it’s me, your best Bud.

A hay covered door on the back part of the barn flew open, Martha dove forward as a pitchfork just missed her. She stood on her feet, stared at a haggard, female figure that had white blotches on her face, arms, legs, and stated, Ruthie, you look horrible, put down the pitchfork, and come with me because you’re gonna die if we don’t help you.

If you are my friend the way you say you are, why did you side with George so I could be trapped in that God forsaking vortex?

    Chapter 1

    ESCAPE

In a room ten feet by ten feet underneath George Bentwood’s red barn, he constructed a Time Arch eight feet tall and five feet wide made out of die-cast Aluminum, eight inches thick, that stood against the far wall. He wrapped the arch with two magnetic coils that had opposite polarities and encased it with his invention, called the HJO Capacitor, which powers the magnetic field around the Time Arch, interrupting the delicate balance between the past and future, allowing him to slip through time with ease.

Georg, a clean-cut man in his 40s, clad in black dress pants and a dark blue shirt, kissed his wife Cynthia, a tall slender woman in her late 30s, with long wavy brown hair, clad in a black dress that had red roses on it stated, Ruthy White is lost in time because of her devious, backstabbing, evil ways. I would free her and send her to prison, but because of her cunning ways, she’s better off in limbo.

The faint blue aurora around the Time Arch slowly faded as Cynthia powered it down. Then said, Fire up the grill because I feel like barbecued ribs tonight.

George’s assistant, Martha Dirtbottom, a five-foot two woman in her mid-20s. With shoulder-length dark brown wavy hair. Exited the Time Recovery Room on the opposite side of the lab and said, Everything is shut off, and I stored Ruthie’s data in the time computer. Sir, did I hear somebody say, barbecued spareribs? I hope you have a lot because they are my favorite so, I’m gonna make a pig of myself.

George stated, Martha, I’ve invited Pastor Shorts here tonight because it’s Bible study night.

Martha hung her head and stated, I’m going to miss Ruthie because we were best buds when we were growing up. Despite her weird attitude, she was a great friend. But right now, all I can think of are those ribs on my plate.

After the lights in the Time Lab was turned off, and things were quiet. The Time Arch flickered a faint blue, and a bare human female arm slowly emerged. Then, a woman’s agonizing screams echoed throughout the lab, causing the Time Arch to flash a brilliant cobalt blue, as the arm thrashed about, then it vanished into the arch and all was quiet.

At George’s Bible study that night, Pastor Shorts, a medium build man in his early 30s, with neatly cut hair, stated, Have you ever noticed the sediment on the bottom of a swimming pool, that gets stirred up when you are in it? It is the same with us. We have sediment in our lives that has to be dealt with, and the Word of God says if you have sin in your heart, God will not hear you. But because of the finished work on the Cross, we can confess our sins to the Father, and he is faithful and just, to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. So, every morning we need to get before the Heavenly Father and ask him to show us where the sediment in our lives is so he can help us get rid of it. Because if we do it in our own strength, it’s dead works.

Martha said, Some years back, I needed someone to help me around my home because I fell and broke my arm. So, I called my longtime friend Walter if he could help me. He told me that he would be at my place at 11 AM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I hung up the phone, delighted that I was going to get some assistance. But as the week slowly passed, Walter never showed or called. So, I prayed and struggled through with God’s help. That Sunday, I saw him at church, and he told me that he would help me, but he pulled a no-show again. It’s downright frustrating because he keeps doing this to me.

Pastor shorts questioned, Was that the first time you ask Walter to help you?

I’ve known Walter for 10, years, and he constantly does this to me, which drives me up the wall every single time.

My advice Martha, is to drop Walter as a friend and find someone that is going to be dependable. Because it seems that Walter will only show when it’s for his benefit. My dear old mother used to call them a fair-weather friend. They are your best bud when everything is going smooth but, as soon as the storms rise, there nowhere to be found. Stay away from them and surround yourself with Saints that will lift you up and encourage you.

A shocked Martha stated, That’s Walter alright when I’m willing to pay somebody to help me, he’s Johnny on the spot. But he’s nowhere to be found if he has to give of himself. Thank you Pastor I’m gonna cross Walter off my friend’s list, but I’ll continue to pray for him.

As Martha was helping herself to a large glass of coke and a chocolate glazed doughnut, someone swatted her butt then heard a male voice say, Hey Grungy Bottom how are things going?

Martha spun around, saw a five-foot, eight-inch man in his mid-thirties, with short brown hair dressed in jeans and a dark brown t-shirt grinning at her. She set her drink and doughnut on the table, slapped the man in his face saying, The name’s Dirtbottom Jake Browning, and if you touch me like that again you’ll be singing soprano for the rest of your life.

But Sweet Cheeks, we’re friends and have gone out on dates.

Unfortunately, I went out on one date with you and have been regretting it ever since, and do not call me Sweet Cheeks again, do I make myself clear?

But why? I thought you liked me calling you that.

I never did because I do not like what it refers to now if you excuse me, I’ve got a cold drink and a doughnut that has my name on it. She then went to walk away.

Jake grabbed Martha by her left arm, spun her around then stated, Don’t walk away from me when I’m talking to you. I asked you a simple question and I expect an answer. But first I want you to apologize for slapping me across the face.

Martha grew worried when she saw jake’s eyes narrow. She mustered up her courage, then said, From the very first day I met you, I told you that I did not like my derriere, being swatted and my name is Dirtbottom. No, I am not going to apologize for your crude actions, now, let go of my arm before I scream.

Just one question Martha? Why did you regret our date when I thought we had fun?

What you called fun, I called disgusting, now leave me alone.

A persistent Jake said, Not until you kiss me.

Feeling trapped, Martha felt that she had to do what Jake asked and was about to kiss him when George stepped between them and said, Sir, what part of, leave me alone, don’t you understand?

I was just having a friendly chat with Martha.

I have good ears, and it was not a friendly chat. The front door is to your left, I would use it before your welcome, is worn out, and I serve you a knuckle sandwich.

George escorted Martha to the couch, set on her right side, took a swallow of his coffee then questioned, What is it between you and Jake? I’ve known him since I moved to Tennessee, and I didn’t know that he was like that. So, from now on, I will not invite him to any more of my gatherings because I do not like the way he treated you. Would you mind if I asked you what happened on the date with Jake that has you so upset?

"Jake took me to a sports bar and ordered me a beer then he watched the game. I hate alcoholic beverages of any kind, so I pushed my drink away and asked him if we could go. When we got in his car, he tried to kiss me and passed out in my lap. I Look down at my drunken date drooling on me and managed to push him back in his seat. I put the driver seat back
