The apostle Paul described seeking this knowledge as desiring to apprehend what has apprehended him. The purpose of this book is to produce Grace Whisperers. This book is dedicated to the modus operandi of the Church of Jesus Christ. Learning how to become Grace Whisperers is learning to skillfully work with the Holy Spirit in the administration of the Gospel of God’s Grace.

This book was written as an intensive, “Spiritual Special Forces” training course as I call it. It is designed to help train the children of God—known as the “sons of God”—to be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.”

    INTRODUCTION

After so many years in observation of God’s grace, and in my attempts to teach it in pastoral ministry in these last days, I was made aware of how many did not know the story of God’s grace.

Do you know the story of grace? Can you tell it? Can you use it to stand against every negative situation in your life? The answers to these crucial questions will determine your success in the Kingdom of God

Perhaps the larger questions is: "Do you know the motive for God’s actions toward the human race? Specifically, what is the desire behind His actions toward us, as described about the Kingdom of God? Can we know His desire? Is it in the Bible and if so, how is it that we don’t easily see it? Are these things beyond our knowing, or are we invited to discover this glorious mystery? The apostle Paul described seeking this knowledge as desiring to apprehend what has apprehended him. It was said in Hebrews:

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

And this will we do, if God permit. Emphasis mine—Hebrews 6: 1-3 (KJV)

This scripture means that God wants to take us on to a perfect knowledge of the revelation of His grace. People who understand and know the depths of God’s astounding grace… and are able to teach it.

The purpose of this book is to produce Grace Whisperers.

I believe in these last days, God is perfecting His Church to resist the leaven of the Pharisees; starting by faith, but being perfected by works. This leaven is the teaching and adherence to man-made traditions, rather than revelation from a relationship with the Holy Spirit. Every move of God, starting with the Church of the apostles, faded into a body of religious people who would then learn how to live without God’s power, simply because they lost the understanding of how to find and/or sustain this revelation. Jesus warned His Church in person (Matthew 16:6 KJV), and through the apostle Paul (Galatians 5:9 KJV), of this leaven that would leaven the whole lump.

This book is dedicated to the modus operandi of the Church of Jesus Christ. Learning how to become Grace Whisperers is learning to skillfully work with the Holy Spirit in the administration of the Gospel of Grace. The Holy Spirit brought to me the term Grace Whisperers as He was teaching me to see the kingdom of God through His eyes of grace.

I believe His desire is for all His people to learn how to see and minister through the eyes of grace. Therefore, this book was written as an intensive, Spiritual Special Forces training course as I call it. It is designed to help train the children of God—known as the sons of God—to be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.

My prayer is by the end of this book, you too will understand how to see the kingdom of God through grace, and comprehend His calling on your life to become one of His mighty Grace Whisperers.

I am not a writer or novelist, but out of obedience I have begun this quest. My hope is you will extend to me grace, as I try to reveal to you, the things our Lord has been revealing to me about His grace in these last days. Like Moses, if I would pay attention to my command of the English language and moderate ability to write, I would stay in my cave. God, however, has convinced me that it is not how eloquently I speak, or write, but rather that the content of what I say will be anointed by Him.

The apostle Paul said there was given to him a thorn in his flesh to buffet him. He didn’t say what it was, but we all can relate to the fact that we find weaknesses in our flesh that hinder us, and even war against what we desire to become. Paul said he asked the Lord three times to remove this thorn from his life, but the Lord replied all three times that His grace was sufficient.

So is His grace sufficient in our lives?

One of the great revelations that brought balance to my life was the knowledge that I am nobody who is somebody. I have come to realize that though I have many failures and inadequacies as a son of man, God still makes me somebody because of my place in Him as a son of God. Therefore, I, like Jacob, and everyone else on the planet, had to learn how to walk with a limp or other weaknesses—even with things that could produce shame if allowed.

For good reason God has allowed me to suffer many trials and situations throughout my life. Instead of delivering me and removing these sufferings and challenges, He taught me about His grace, enabling me to stand against all the wiles of the evil one when I applied it. I found that His grace is indeed sufficient to make me stand, and keep me standing through every battle. This is what I have come to understand as He taught me to walk in His grace for myself.

Therefore, my purpose with this book is to take on this task I believe the Lord has given me; to take you on a journey, discovering the story of His grace, found in His scriptures.

As we proceed, you’ll find my writing style is that of a narrator. I wrote this book as though we were exploring the scriptures together, which I pray is helpful to you.

First, please allow me to discuss my perspective…

    DISCLAIMER OF PERSPECTIVE

As I began to take on this quest, being moved by the Lord to address this subject, I became self-conscious of my place among so many great leaders, and their opinions on this subject. I knew God, in my lifetime as a Christian, had given me a different perspective regarding the application of His kingdom of grace.

When He called me to pastor, a role in which I always walked as an assistant pastor, helping to build up the saints in walking and living their Christian lives, I saw grace firsthand through very practical applications. In that environment, the Holy Spirit began to sharpen, and bring into focus my perception of grace. When I realized I spoke differently from my fellow believers concerning grace, I began to doubt myself. Who am I to speak differently from other believers? I wondered.

God, however, soon began to comfort me by showing me how He designed all gifts of perspective in the spirit of His believers, according to their calling. We usually see things in a very polarized sense as right or wrong, and therefore we confront one another because we each see a different side of the entire revelation… but God showed me two concepts that changed the way I hear and perceive the perspective of other believers.

First, He reminded me of the concept often used by others—that we all are like those standing around an elephant seeing only the parts of the elephant in our view. God is so big, when we describe Him or His attributes, we each see details that are similar, but others that are not. The difference in what we see is purely because of our position, the same as when viewing the elephant.

All can agree on the texture of the elephant’s skin. All can see at least two legs, but some see them close together (from the front or back view), while some see them apart (from the side view). One sees two legs of the elephant, with a big belly, while another sees two legs with a head, great flappy ears, and a long trunk. Yet another sees two legs and a little tail.

All, however, see the elephant. All are telling the truth, but all see the truth from a slightly different perspective because of their position. This is God’s doing and it is marvelous to me. The apostle Paul describes our positions in the Body of Christ beautifully in his first letter to the Corinthian Church:

But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be? But now indeed there are many members, yet one body.

And the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of you; nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.

No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. I Corinthians 12:18-27 (NKJV)

When the Lord revealed this concept to me, it brought me such peace. I began to see we all have the Holy Spirit, who is the accreditation from which we speak. We, therefore, will not shrink back from our perspective because we all trust God to never allow us to be deceived. As a result, however, we think our brethren are the ones in error. Thus, we set out to correct our brethren that we might be lifted up. This is a gross misunderstanding of the administration of God’s kingdom, and a misapplication of how He works.

The apostle Paul went on to say that this attitude is carnal, and when we practice it, we are walking from a worldly point of view.

For you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?

For when one says, I am of Paul, and another, I am of Apollos, are you not carnal? I Corinthians 3:3-4 (NKJV)

It is certainly not God’s will that one of us considers him or herself greater than any others because of our perspective. To the contrary—His desire is that we all carry a piece of the puzzle so when we come together, we will have a more complete picture of His kingdom.

Now because of our position and perception, we also have a part of our vision that is out of focus, or lacking clarity. None of us, regardless of how much God has shown us, can eliminate this limitation. We must learn to trust God to give us further clarity through our fellow saints. This is what the apostle Paul said:

For now we see through a glass, darkly… 1 Corinthians 13:12 (KJV)

This brings me to my second example. God gave me further clarity and confidence by giving me another assignment. I was motivated to go into photography. As I learned about photography, I began to understand that the art was all about seeing and capturing light from different perspectives.

This is accomplished by the sensor in the camera, but the perspective comes from the lenses. To me, the sensor represents the Holy Spirit who all believers have, but the lenses represent our calling. The lenses determine what we see, and how we see it.

In the science of the lens, there is a term called depth of field. When we look through the lens, we see an image in 3D, but in the canvas of the lens, the picture is flattened. If you look at a face and turn that face sideways, you have a depth of field from the nose to the back of the head. Out of the entire canvas, depth of field is the plane that is in focus, or sharp.

For example, the plane of the tip of the nose may be razor sharp, but the further you get back on the face, like the eyes, things may become a little blurred. When you reach the ears and hair it may be even more blurry. When you get to the back of the head, and whatever is behind the head, it is a total blur.

This is called a small depth of field because one plane is in total focus, while the rest is blurred. When the full head and everything behind the head is in focus, it is called great, or large depth of field.

Therefore, when you focus your lens, that plane and only that plane can be sharpened

I’m sure you can understand my analogy; a small depth of field is what is most appealing to us, because it causes us to focus on a given subject nearest the photographer. While depth of field is determined by the proximity of the subject to the lens and sensor, however, it is mostly determined by the amount of light allowed into the lens.

This revelation gave me such clarity regarding how the gifts of God work in His people. When God wants us to focus on the little things, like how someone feels sitting beside us, He increases the light in our hearts to be more sensitive; everything else momentarily becomes a blur. The pastor may be giving a great exegesis of the scriptures, but what that person really needs is a hug. This is how God works.

That being said, we, as ministers of the gospel, speak from our depth of field. We are not responsible for what is blurred. That doesn’t make us less or greater; it only makes us specific. All of us inevitably try to describe the blurred aspects, but we must give a disclaimer that we are seeing it through a dark glass.

Correction from others only comes when we try to pretend what is blurred is clear, claiming we understand the full concept, when in reality it is simply blurred. When we try to describe the blurred area, we are usually wrong in our interpretation. That being said, due to experience, most pastors have a zoom lens that can focus in and out so they can see the bigger picture. They, by the leading of The Holy Spirit, can increase the light to find the grace required to speak to a young believer.

With this revelation, God comforted me by assuring He did not send me out with a different perspective to be in competition with my Christian family. Rather, He intended that I bring another perspective to provide more clarity to the picture we see; to bring clarity to an area that others might see as blurred. God gave me a different lens to see a different depth of field, and therefore I believe this book will bring into clarity what was once blurred to others.

Let me finish with this example; the apostle Peter, along with all of the other apostles, walked with Jesus, but the apostle Paul—born outside of the camp so to speak—came and gave them another perspective of the grace of God. They clashed at first because of their differing positions, but eventually came together to understand what God was doing because of their respect for the Holy Spirit in one another. The apostle Paul said this about it:

And the leaders of the church had nothing to add to what I was preaching. (By the way, their reputation as great leaders made no difference to me, for God has no favorites.) Instead, they saw that God had given me the responsibility of preaching the gospel to the Gentiles, just as he had given Peter the responsibility of preaching to the Jews. For the same God who worked through Peter as the apostle to the Jews also worked through me as the apostle to the Gentiles. In fact, James, Peter, and John, who were known as pillars of the church, recognized the gift God had given me, and they accepted Barnabas and me as their co-workers. They encouraged us to keep preaching to the Gentiles, while they continued their work with the Jews. Galatians 2:6-9 (NLT)

Now listen to what the apostle Peter, who was the leader of the early Church, said about Paul:

And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. This is what our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom God gave him— speaking of these things in all of his letters. Some of his comments are hard to understand, and those who are ignorant and unstable have twisted his letters to mean something quite different, just as they do with other parts of Scripture.

And this will result in their destruction. Emphasis mine—2 Peter 3:15-16 (NLT)

I hope you can see that my purpose in writing this book was not to correct another, but rather to give more clarity to the things we are seeing, as God brings us into the light to perceive a greater clarity of His grace. Let these revelations give you more confidence in grace, for indeed, His grace is sufficient when we see it fully.

God bless you all my family in Christ. Let’s begin our journey.

    THE PROLOGUE

    Salvation

The message of salvation is simple, and has lasted throughout all generations and denominations. The bottom line is plain for us to see: God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whomever believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life (paraphrase of John 3:16 KJV). Jesus came to us born of a virgin, to die for our sins. He was, by the will of God, captured, beaten, and crucified—ultimately dying to pay for the sins of the world.

On the third day, He rose from the grave and appeared to many, demonstrating that their sins had been washed away in the presence of their heavenly Father. Jesus then ascended back into Heaven where He sits at the right hand of His (and our) Father, to make intercession for us all. As a result of Jesus’ obedience, sacrifice, and victory, Father God from that point on, only saw all of mankind through His Son Jesus, who became the representative and savior of all, who brought peace on Earth, and goodwill towards all mankind.

Jesus’ sacrifice meant that God now sees all of mankind through His Son; God no longer has to see our sins anymore. Before He left the Earth, Jesus told His disciples to go and tell the whole world—all of mankind—what He had done for them. Salvation, therefore, became simple. All we have to do is believe with our heart what Jesus did for us, and with our mouth, confess Him as Lord and Savior, and we will be saved. We then, can all go and join Him in Heaven. This is instructed by the apostle Paul in his letter to the Roman Church:

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.

For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.

For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:10-13 (NKJV)

That is all there is to our part in salvation. John the Baptist, who was sent to prepare a straight path for Jesus and His ministry, said: Our Lord Jesus will see all who receive and confess Him. Then He, seeing our hearts of faith in Him, will baptize us with The Holy Spirit, giving us a new Spirit and heart, therefore beginning our journey back home to God (Matthew 3:11 KJV paraphrase). This message has been told throughout all generations, and now you have read it, too.

Do you receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior? I encourage you, there is no better decision you will make throughout your entire life. If you will receive Him, then pray your first prayer, confessing this declaration to Him, and start your wonderful new journey with us:

Lord Jesus, thank you for loving me so much that You died for my sins so I myself will never have to suffer the punishment for them.

I receive you as my Lord, and confess You as my Savior.

I turn away from my sinful life as I now know it, to forever follow You, as my Lord and Savior in my new life.

This I do in Your name, Jesus.

    Amen.

Praise God, if you prayed that prayer from your heart, your spirit—the real you—has now been given eternal life and made one with the living God! You should have a huge celebration because your name is now found in the Lamb’s Book of Life! (Luke 10:20 KJV) With all love, I want to welcome you to the family.

Let’s begin your journey of discovery to learn more of the decision you just made. Jesus will do His part in refreshing you with His Spirit, but you should search the scriptures to fully understand what He has done for you. This is what the apostle Paul said after he accepted Jesus as his Savior:

Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, Philippians 3:12-14 (NKJV)

What was the apostle Paul talking about? What was he trying to take hold of? In another place, the apostle Peter echoes a similar instruction that gives us more clarity:

So put aside every trace of malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander and hateful speech; like newborn babies [you should] long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may be nurtured and grow in respect to salvation [its ultimate fulfillment], if in fact you have [already] tasted the goodness and gracious kindness of the Lord. 1 Peter 2:1-3 (AMP)

We are to desire and seek the pure milk of the Word of God, and the subsequent revelation from the Holy Spirit. Are you ready to do this? Alright! Then let’s begin our discovery of this new life in Christ. Let’s seek to understand what God’s grace is to us. Let us stoke our desire and begin our discovery of what God has in His heart concerning us.

    CHAPTER ONE

    In the Beginning Was

    God’s Motive

    45799.png

How do we start such a deep quest? How can we truly know what God’s motive was, in the beginning? And can we really fathom the purpose of His grace?

Since the Word of God is paramount, my purpose as a minister of God’s grace is not to give you another opinion, but to take you on a journey of discovery through the scriptures on this matter. So let’s ask again: What is the purpose of grace?

To start our journey let’s first look at what the apostle Paul said to us in the book of Romans:

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Emphasis mine—Romans 8:28-30 (KJV)

We will begin our discovery of God’s motive in this scripture with the revelation of the word foreknow. The word foreknow tells us along with the rest of this passage, that all along, God had it in His heart to make Jesus the firstborn of many brethren.

    (Selah)—think about this statement for a moment…

Let’s stop for a minute and savor this revelation; All along, God had it in His heart to make Jesus the firstborn of many. Can you believe what we just read? I’ll bet you’ve never seen it quite that way before, have you? This has always been in the Bible, but I didn’t see it until the Lord began this journey with me, regarding His motives… but there it is! That in itself is enough to chew on for a while. If you’re wondering what I am rambling on about, let’s look at it in other words:

God’s purpose from the very beginning was to create more people—you might even say a race made up of all people—that look just like, and possess the full character of His Son, Jesus.

That is so grand a revelation it is hard to believe: God wanted to multiply His Son. Can you imagine a whole new nation in the image of His Son? (Selah)

Let’s look at another scripture that points to the truth that this purpose was in God’s mind and heart from the beginning of our creation:

They are the ones whose names were not written in the Book of Life that belongs to the Lamb who was slaughtered before the world was made. Emphasis mineRevelation 13:8b (NLT)

So we saw the concept that God foreknew us, and here we see another clue: before the world was made. Jesus became the sacrificial Lamb in God’s heart before Adam and Eve were even created. It’s no accident the apostle John went on to say in verse 9:

Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand. Revelation 13:9 (NLT)

Are you beginning to hear and see a little more clearly the purpose of His grace? We can… if we sit still long enough to listen and meditate on the scriptures, which tell us what God’s endgame is. (Selah)

Lets stop and take a closer look at God’s purpose for every person born on this earth.

He said all souls came from Him, born with a purpose.

"Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine;… Ezekiel 18:4 (NKJV)

He said that He was part of the birth of all human being and He knows every soul by name; "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you…." Jeremiah 1:5 (NKJV)

Then, in the book of Romans 8:29 (KJV), He said He preordained every Soul that came from Him to be conformed to the image of His Son.
