After doing several teaching assignments, he went into the teaching profession at community colleges. He was an adjunct professor at many community colleges in Southern California. He became a life member for both the alumni associations at UCR and UCD. He has done homeschooling throughout communities, where he offers more than two hundred sections of academic subjects from humanities, social sciences, sciences, and test preparation. Chapter 1
Basic Chemistry
https-pixabay.comphotosazalea-waterfall-garden-pond-water-5120368%20.jpgWelcome to the world of the chemistry of nails. It is my pleasure to share some interesting science facts to help those who wear nail polish and any nail products for the nails. Providing nail services is not possible without using chemicals. Everything we can see or touch except both light and electricity is considered to be a chemical. The world we live in, our bodies, and even the numerous gases such as oxygen and nitrogen we breathe are made up of chemicals. Of course, cosmetics is made of chemicals. It is important to understand what chemicals are and how to use them. Nail professionals and even the community needs to have a basic understanding of chemistry.
Chemistry is defined as the science that deals with the composition, structures, and properties of matter and how matter changes during different conditions. Organic chemistry is the study of substances that contain carbon as its element. All living species or even species that were once alive, whether they were plants or animals contain the element carbon. In fact, compounds that contain both carbon and hydrogen are called hydrocarbons and actually react with oxygen gas to produce carbon dioxide and water. We hear the word organic
as safe or natural because it is associated with living things such as food or food ingredients.
We should be aware that not all organic substances are natural, healthy, or even safe. Gasoline, motor oil, plastics, fabrics, pesticides, and fertilizers are considered to be organic substances. Likewise, all nail enhancements, nail tips, and even nail polishes are considered to be organic chemicals. The bottom line is organic does not mean natural and healthy. It means the substance contains both of the elements carbon and hydrogen from natural or synthetic sources.
Inorganic chemistry is the study of substances that do not contain carbon but might contain hydrogen. Most inorganic substances don’t burn because they don’t contain carbon and are never considered to be alive. Metals, minerals, glass, water, and air are considered to be inorganic materials or chemicals. For example, the compound titanium dioxide is a white pigment and an inorganic chemical used to whiten polymer powders and Ultra Violet (UV) gels as well as giving opacity in nail polish to provide better coverage.
Matter is any substance that occupies space and has mass. All matter has physical and chemical properties and can exist as either as a solid, liquid, or a gas. All matter is made of chemicals and has the following distinguishing properties such as touch, taste, smell, and vision. This is in contrast to visible light and electricity that we can see but are not made of matter and explains why they are not made of chemicals. Both light and electricity are different forms of energy, and energy is not matter. In fact, everything known to exist in the universe is made up of either matter or energy.
Matter consists of the elements of our world. We can think of elements as the building blocks of nature. Elements are the simplest form of chemical matter and cannot be broken down into simpler substances without losing its identity. Each element has its own distinctive physical and chemical properties. Elements are identified by symbols such as C for carbon, H for hydrogen, O for oxygen, N for nitrogen, S for sulfur, and many other symbols are found on The Periodic Table of Elements.

Atoms are thought of as the structural units that make up elements. There are different elements that are different from one another because the structure of the atoms are different. Each element is made up of one kind of atom, and it is the differences between atoms that makes one element different from one another. An atom is considered to be the smallest chemical particle for that element and retains the same properties of that element. There is no way that atoms can’t be combined into simpler substances by chemical changes.
Molecules are made by combining different atoms which is similar to words being formed by combining different letters of the alphabet. A molecule is thought of as chemical combination of two or more different types of atoms. Water,
