    INTRODUCTION

The standard of success in life isn’t the things. It isn’t the money

or the stuff. It is absolutely the amount of joy that you feel.

    Abraham-Hicks, Law of Attraction

You’re successful. You’re driven. And now, you’re disillusioned. You’ve outgrown your job, your circumstances, and/or your level of happiness. You’ve considered making a change, as you’ve done before–but this time the thought of having to work so darn hard overwhelms you, holding you in place. You’re tired before you even begin, and you think maybe, just maybe, where you are at is good enough after all.

But instead of feeling relieved, you feel like you are giving up.

I see you. I hear you. I am you. I have been right where you are. I understand exactly how you feel. And I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to exhaust yourself in order to upgrade your direction. There is another way. This time, you can achieve without the struggle. This time, you can glide to success. I have experienced this surprising approach to success for myself, I have shared it with others, and I want to share it with you.

    There Is Another Way

Women and men have been told we can have it all–career, family, joy, fulfillment–but too often this message comes with the idea that we can only achieve success through struggle. There is another way.

So many of us have created and sustained great success in our lives through the default path of hard work and struggle. As we grow comfortable, even complacent, with the perfection we have attained, we find that we are ready for something more…but we don’t want more of the same.

We want greater for ourselves. I wanted something greater, and I wanted it in a wiser way than before, one more aligned with the way I was living now. At this point in my life, I noticed that I wanted something more than just external measures of success–I wanted success that matched my internal need for fulfillment. But I didn’t want to struggle all over again–been there, done that. I wanted a new way. I wanted to Glide.

I began to wonder if there were other bold dreamers out there–women and men who wanted what I wanted, and wanted it on new terms. So, I listened. When I started paying attention to those around me, I discovered a veritable flock of potential Gliders. I listened to women who were empty-nesting. I observed those who had attained career success. I found a variety of people who were successful, disillusioned and exhausted. I was not alone. Not even kind of alone. Here is a sampling:

    • Janet¹ had a family lifestyle dream: We don’t have a bad life, but things have changed from what I worked so hard to get us to. And I want better for our family, again. It’s just that…ten years is a long time. The kids are older now, and in school with their friends. My husband likes his job. I guess I can make mine work. It would be so hard to go through this (major lifestyle change) again. Maybe it’s not really bad enough to do anything about, yet…

    • Chris, whose story of searching for his ideal home is shared later, tells it like this: This (decision about a move) became the number one thing I had to tackle, and it was all I could think of. It’s like everything for our family rested on my one decision, my one action, and I wanted to do it right. I lost a lot of sleep.

    • Marie, whose story about manifesting her new dream vehicle appears in the book, describes it this way: "I really, really wanted to get a newer vehicle. But I still shuddered when I thought about the last time I shopped for a car, six years ago. I really, really, really wanted to not go through that stress and angst again. Ever. Was that possible, or is this just how it is?"

Fueled by the personal revelation of being a part of a growing movement, hard questions became pointed at the problem. Are we allotted one great big huge success, or do we get to have more? Does outgrowing our dream mean we’ve abandoned it? Must we struggle, or is there another way to dream and succeed?

How Did I End Up Here?

You know how to work hard and achieve; you’ve successfully done it before. Maybe you pursued education or training to further your skills, putting in the time and effort needed to complete your studies. Could be you even graduated at the top of your class, possibly while also raising a family. Likely while doing double- (or triple-) duty by simultaneously working at a job (or two!). You set your sights on the career you wanted, you did the work necessary to become qualified, and you pursued it with a passion. You never doubted that you would land the career you desired. And you did.

You’re a self-starter, a go-getter, an independent accomplisher who also plays well on a team. You put yourself in front of the pack, got noticed, showed confidence and determination. at the interview. You are the total package, an employer’s dream and gift–and when you’re interviewing, they absolutely recognize this. When you applied for that career position or promotion, you were the
