Sarah Koeppen

Sarah Koeppen is the Executive Director and Founder of The Hope Box. Sarah is married and has five children. Her journey began years ago when a young child was dropped off at her front door. She studied the law and eventually was able to secure sole custody of the child. Her experiences over the years have given her an expert level of knowledge on the issues of abandonment and child services. Sarah is a public speaker, child advocate, and expert on the issues of the abandonment of babies, and works diligently to fight against sex trafficking of infants. Sarah was instrumental in amending the Georgia safe haven law (House Bill 391) in 2017.

    CHAPTER 1

    In the Beginning

    I am the 4th and the 2nd. Being born into a large family means always being asked, what number are you in the family? I am the fourth child of twelve children and the second daughter. All of my siblings and myself are miracles! My mother was told she would never have children. My mom was a mighty prayer warrior and an amazing woman of faith. She cried out to the Lord to bless her womb and He did, so much so that after number twelve was born my father had a little talk with Jesus and told Him he needed to "shut this down!"

    My birth was even more miraculous due to the fact that my mother took medications while pregnant with me (unbeknownst to her at the time) that were very dangerous and could cause birth defects. The doctors encouraged my parents to consider abortion since they had no way of knowing to what extent and effect the medications would have on me. You see during that time there was not a great way to see what was going on in the womb. Mom and Dad prayed and knew that I was meant to be born. To everyone’s surprise, I was born healthy – with all ten fingers and all ten toes! The doctors and nurses kept counting them and checking me over thoroughly to make sure I was okay. Dad said that my birth was special. He said that the Holy Spirit’s presence was so very strong in
