About this ebook

This book shares a collection of poems I wrote fresh out of high school as a way to pinpoint my long transition from Refugee to Australian. It consists of four parts sharing my emotions and thought patterns along my journey and how they shape me today. The book highlights the lessons and surrounding adversities faced during early migration and post-migration. Highlighted in this book through poetry is how the will of perseverance and faith can assist you in the darkest of times. We all have unique journeys in life; however, life is not always an easy road. These poems encourage individuals to write their own story and walk their enlightenment amidst the adversities of life.

Bior Aguer

My name is BiorAguerKuir I am South Sudanese, like many victims of war my family found refuge at the Kenyan refugee camp, Kakuma. At a very young age I was heading to Australia on a humanitarian visa with my relatives, leaving my mum and dad behind who had divorced at the same time. I came to Australia at the age of five. I knew from a very young age I could not control my situation, so I decided to focus on my studies to aid in a brighter future for my family. Adjusting to the Australian language and culture was my biggest obstacle young and uncertain how I would navigate myself through, I utilised sports to teach me discipline and a sense of belonging. Having to work to support myself in my young adolescent years is a testament to my determination to succeed in the future. As a writer I love to evoke the imagination of my readers to question or reflect their adverse experiences. As a former refugee it is hard to share my world, so I apply poetry as a way to portray my Journey as a refugee. I finished my schooling at Sacred Heart Senior College, and I am now approaching graduation in a bachelor degree of Journalism and Professional Writing. I hope to inspire other migrants who are embarking on a similar journey in the hope of showing them all is possible with a little persistence.
