PREFACE
HOW IS THE EARTH CHANGING?
As Earthlings, we experience new dynamics;
We are moving onward and not static!
Yes, we notice our own new changes;
But often ignore other advances!
These dynamics are in Universes;
Human Earthlings try to rehearse.
But different timelines are involved;
We must adjust so that we survived!
Our human Shadow is also mysterious;
This is important now to take serious.
Our Shadow is not clearly visible
But it emerges for our survival.
Let us consider historical studies;
Noting how to be its understudies!
Hopefully you will discover insights
As you read under very bright lights!
I. INTRODUCTION
SHOVELS NOT AXES
This simple title is deceptively complicated.
Axes and Shovels
are indirectly related!
You can initially make your own guess.
Yes, both are made out of steel
Fortunately both are used as tools.
Much more will be later revealed!
Both an ax and a shovel have edges
One is used to dig, the other to cut.
They could also be used as wedges!
As tools, users need strong energy
By holders who use them functionally!
Now continue to guess hypothetically.
Both Shovels and Axes are significant
This poetry will show their importance!
Clues will prompt you to contribute.
PROFITS AND PROPHETS
Becoming fascinated is a human experience;
Our brains expand to discover evidence.
New foods capture our own appetites;
As human minds protect these rites!
Clothing styles catch our attention;
Changing wardrobes is a fascination.
We notice what is in our environment,
Welcoming these favorable compliments.
New cars change styles every year,
Buyers cannot wait to get in to steer.
Pick-ups and big SUVs intrigue buyers
Drivers have to steer and ride higher!
People are fascinated by pick-up tailgates!
TV ads emphasize so may cannot wait!
Moreover, cup-holders for cell phones
Distract attention from the major ones.
Since 1990, vehicle emissions have risen
These are 133% higher in metro regions!¹
Cars, trucks and SUVs have an expansion
These contribute to 60% of gas emissions!
Carbon dioxide adds to global warming.
This is contributed by driving and commuting!
People are changing urban environments
So pollution grows by large increments!
The coal industry is making contributions,
Coal produces more carbon emissions!
Its former Executive is also in denial²
While paying himself a big salary!
He also spent $1 million as a doubter
This led to Murray Energy bankruptcy.
Multi billions of debt in obligations,
Left with unlikelihood of redemption.
Bigger changes are in need to be proposed;
Otherwise life may become disposed.
Global warming needs to be addressed;
Or future life may become distressed!
Climate scientists are now also prophets,
Foreseeing increases in future temperatures.
Researchers typically do not seek profits;
They try to advise us with their reports.
Of course, there are also false prophets
They are motivated to create profits.
Economic reasons are their interests;
They try to out-perform competitors.
Making profits motivates auto makers,
As well as the global petro-producers.
Social well-being is then secondary,
Rather than the health of humanity.
The true prophets are known to suffer;
And their own well-being is also riskier!
Competing motivations are now present;
Long-term results will then be evident!
False prophets are advocating denial;
Donald Trump calls warming a hoax!
World leaders find this a surprise;
Research is clear but Trump still denies!
He certainly is not a scientist.
Contrasting reality he does persist.
His own public policies will falter;
This globe needs a different leader.
Trump withdrew from the Paris Accord,
To contain the carbon to 2% by 2100.
Other nations are making efforts
The United States fails to support.
The World citizens are disappointed
So global warming has increased.
We are not providing leadership;
Rather, Americans are forfeiting it.
Seashores in the world are rising
Low islands are now suffering!
Forced Migration
is occurring;
Island residents are now moving.
These migrants have a sinking feeling!
³
They are being forced into migrating.
Tuvaluans Islands in the Pacific Ocean
Families are needing to find solutions.
SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
Research by the ENVIRONMENT DEFENSE,⁴
Projects sea levels could rise 6 to 8 feet
Already by the end of the 21th century!
So coastline residents better hurry!
Moreover, there could be food shortages
So food prices rise by 2050 at mid-century.
Plus climate-related diseases and deaths;
Making all living creatures face threats!
Moana Declaration offered by New Zealand,
This design helps migrants be re-located!
Other nations should pay attention
In order to discover a resolution!
Global nations need to collaborate,
As island people, they cannot wait.
Populations who live on rising shores
Will need new homes and new stores.
Efforts hopefully will reduce suffering,
And also preclude human trafficking.
Otherwise they can be very vulnerable
Because better solutions are plausible!
Good planning helps to manage stress;
It also avoids people becoming depressed.
Global warming does not need to be violent
Planners need to take action, not be silent!
Species on Earth are being threatened;
Water shortages that humans (25%) face!⁵
Scientists identify that whales are endangered;
Two per cent near Cape Cod were found dead! ⁶
Wild fires of peat are burning in the Arctic Circle;
It is warming twice as fast as elsewhere on Earth.
Peat fires produce more carbon dioxide and methane
Fires produce black carbon and make ice melt faster!
Since 1969, human population has doubled,⁷
Global economics have grown four-fold!
And global trade has increased ten-fold,
Driving up energy and material demands!
Life can be in danger when heat is high,
Of course, there is sweating under the sky!
Sweating does help to counter the heat,
Humans and animals may also look beat!
Alaska has the hottest summer ever!
⁸ Anchorage hit 90 degrees temperature.
Warm sea surface with high pressure;
Two million acres up into flames!
Siberia has wild fires lofting particles
Melting seas ice at an alarming pace!
The Arctic region emits carbon dioxide
By July 2019, 125 metric tons to the sky! ⁹
Greenland is contributing to sea level¹⁰
This could increase by up to 23
