His Love for You
Foreword
I can still remember the cold February night that Gena and I met for the first time. The room was dimly lit, and there were many people around us. While sitting at the table with our friends, my words were few. To make a long story short, near the end of the night, we had our first dance together.
As we were leaving the establishment, we hugged at the bottom of the stairs, and yes, she gave me her real phone number. The hug was beyond a normal first-time meeting hug. We both knew at that exact moment there was more to come.
The next day, I called her, and we had our first real date—a walk in a nearby state park that gave us a chance to begin to get to know each other. As we walked together, my mind kept going back to the thought, How can this beautiful girl be interested in me? A year later, we were married and started our life’s journey together as a couple.
Gena came to faith in Christ long before me. After she returned home from the spiritual weekend where she was saved, I noticed an instant transformation in her and was not sure how to handle the change. She was more caring, more giving, more loving. Everything was new. I had never experienced someone changing this dramatically. She was so full of the Spirit of the Lord that when she walked into a room, hurting women were drawn to her.
For the next fourteen years, I continued on my unsaved journey, not knowing that my wife and several of her Bible study friends were praying for my salvation. Yes, I said fourteen years! Talk about fervent prayer! Then there was that day in August 1995 that I gave my life to the Lord, and my life was changed forever!
Since then, Gena was called into the ministry as a pastor, a spiritual director on retreat weekends, a musician, an author, and a counselor. She has also worked with children with emotional issues in the local school district. Full of compassion, full of wisdom, and full of understanding, she ministered to these beautiful young people.
Also, I can’t count the number of times that her phone rings each day with someone in need of prayer or healing. She ministers to each one with the love of Jesus.
When there are incidents where people need special attention from her, I stand back in awe and watch our wonderful Lord work through His willing vessel. Their hurts become her hurts.
One day, Gena came to me with an idea for a prayer room—a place where she could study, pray, and maybe even write a book without any interruptions. So we selected an empty bedroom in our home, and the construction began.
The day I put the finishing touches on the prayer room, I wasn’t fully aware of what would actually happen in this space. There was no desk. There were empty bookshelves, new lights, and new carpeting, but it was still an empty room. But then I remembered that underneath the new carpeting were scriptures Gena had written on the plywood subfloor before the carpet was installed. So whatever activity was going to take place in this room was going to be fruitful because she was standing on the Word of God, the truth.
Next, the bookshelves were filled to capacity, and a desk was placed against the wall. The place became her own as she thoughtfully decorated the room with crosses, pictures, and various knickknacks that would inspire her.
The finishing touch was a beautiful hand-made altar crafted for her in love by our youngest son, Chris, that would become the focal point of this prayer sanctuary. Most every morning at five thirty, for an average of two hours plus, I know my spirit-filled wife is in this sanctuary on her knees at the altar in prayer, interceding, or reading the Word of God, or just waiting for Him to speak to her. It is very evident that she has a strong relationship with the Lord because I see the fruit of the Spirit in all that Gena lays her hands on.
Also, my heart melts when I hear my wife sweetly say, God is patiently waiting for me every morning in my prayer room.
I would like to thank the Lord for this beautiful, spirit-filled, Christian woman he has placed in my life. We have shared so many experiences together in the last forty-three years, prayed together, cried many tears together, rejoiced together, and been blessed so many times and in so many ways, especially with the family and friends He has given to us to love.
I continue to watch the transformation of the beautiful girl I met forty-three years ago, into the most amazing, beautiful woman I have ever known.
Gena is the most precious earthly treasure that the Lord has given to me to love, honor, and cherish for all the days of my life.
This book that you are about to read is the result of many hours of prayer, many life experiences, and some heartache when revisiting those experiences. I believe that Gena’s desire to write this book comes from her extraordinary relationship with her Savior and her willingness to share her life experiences with others who are hurting, stuck in the guilt and shame of their past mistakes.
As you read this incredible book, be mindful that these words that you see printed on each page have been given to Gena by the Holy Spirit of Almighty God, for the purpose of transforming your life forever.
May all the praise and honor and glory be to God, for the great things He has done!
—Gary McMyne
