I’M COMING TO THE TOP

I know you think I’m crazy

Or that I’m just dreaming.

But I mean every word of this—

‘I’m coming to the top!’

I may not have much money now.

Never mind my two shirts and pair of trousers

I know I’m homeless now

At best, a squatter

Okay, so what! Everybody knows I can’t

Afford to eat well.

It’s very obvious from my pale face

And rather elongated neck.

But I dare say this today—

My dreams are bigger than me

And my vision, my pocket can’t contain.

But that’s the way it should be

Else, we’d all die of stagnation.

Going by what I see now,

It will be easier for an elephant

To pass through the eye of a needle,

Than for my dreams to come true.

But going by what I don’t see

Going by God’s promise,

I know my desires will come to pass.

My beginning is truly humble

I don’t think any situation could be humbler

Than mine right now.
