My name is Mecca, we live in a small town called Wellsville, North Carolina. We are a family of four; it’s me, my sister Yon-Dae’, our mom Brianna, and our dad Daryl. Yon-Dae’ is three years older then me; and this is my first year in high school. I love my family, but sometimes I wonder about my mother and sister. We have been home from school about an hour now, and we were supposed to be doing our homework; but we were busy conversating more than doing work. During our talking about different things, Yon-Dae’ stop and looks at the clock; knowing that it will soon be time for dad to come home from work. Dad works in construction; building houses, and other types of buildings; and he makes good money. Mom works at the hospital, in the lab, and she also works part-time cleaning doctor’s offices; two days during the week. Today she will be late getting home, because she has those offices to clean this evening. Dad comes in from work, and of course he is mad; because he thinks that mom is at home.

Dad stays mad at mom, and he’s also mean to her, I guess it’s because she doesn’t do those things that he tells her to do. He also had said to mom that she needs to stop wasting his hard earn money. What is wrong with dad? Just don’t pay dad any mind Mecca, because I sure don’t. Why is it bothering you now; the way that dad mistreats mom you care less? It bothers me so bad from his actions to the way he treats mom. Yon-Dae’ why are you cursing, dad does enough of that. I’m just going to my room, because here comes old hateful again. I just shook my head at Yon-Dae’. Hey dad, how was your day?

It was okay, and where is your mother at Mecca? She won’t get home until seven-thirty dad. Oh, that’s right she is working at her second job tonight. Yes, sir she is, but we have put dinner on. Okay, that gives me time to take a shower, and go out for a moment. Dad took about a fifteen minute shower, and got dressed, and came back to the kitchen to ask me. Will you and Yon-Dae’ be okay until I get back? By the way where is your sister Yon-Dae’. She isn’t on that phone of hers’ is she.

No dad, Yon-Dae’ knows the rules, she’s in her room doing her homework. I think dad just changed the subject, because he didn’t want me to ask him where he was going. Five minutes later dad was out the door. A few seconds later Yon-Dae’ peeped her head out her room door and ask was dad gone. Yes, dad has been gone now for about ten minutes or so. You can finish your homework after we eat dinner. After we ate dinner, I washed the dishes, and Yon-Dae’ finished the floor and table. We had just finished the kitchen, and mom came through the door. Hey girls, how are you? We should be asking you that mom.

Oh, I’m tired, but I thank GOD that I’m still here tired and all. Ma, why do you work so hard? I looked at Yon-Dae’, because she knew some of the things
