    Introduction

The principles in this book will be drawn from the scriptures; however, it is important to note that the laws and principles of success do not discriminate. Anyone who applies these principles will be successful regardless of religion, gender, race, background, or status. The laws are universal; they were established by God for the well-being of humankind.

We’re the best of friends, and I pray for good fortune in everything you do, and for your good health—that your everyday affairs prosper, as well as your soul! (3 John 1:2)

Success is not luck or chance; it is by design, a mind-set, a way of life and culture. The most important ingredient in the success formula is purpose; there is no successful individual or organization that does not have purpose. Success is supposed to be all-encompassing and should include success in the mind, body, soul, spirit, and finances. Some of the wealthiest countries in the world have beggars and homeless individuals, and poor and poverty-stricken nations have wealthy individuals in them. Why? Rich and wealthy individuals understand the principles of success and make use of them to their advantage.

It is fair to say success is not limited to geographic location or even life experiences. While these may limit or restrict us, they lack the capacity to stop us. Success is a decision; it is a choice to live our lives according to certain codes or laws that lead to attaining the state of success.

Covenantal relationships and agreements are another medium of success. They tie God to our needs and bind Him to His words and promises.

Do you think I’d withdraw my holy promise? Or take back words I’d already spoken? (Psalm 89:34)

Covenantal relationship will distinguish us and make us great on earth like they did for Abraham, Noah, David, and others. If we have a working knowledge of covenant, it will be a different world for us.

Societal norms are designed for our survival and harmony in life—not for success. Even with proper habits and discipline, it can be very difficult to be successful by holding down a nine-to-five job. This can become boring and tiring and wear on a person’s health and well-being, and there may be little reward in the long run. Until we understand investments, take risks, and establish other forms of income that do not require physical effort, true success will be elusive.

Jacob went to see his uncle Laban for a few days. He ended up staying for twenty-one years. He came from a generation of men who made God’s Word their priority, and he walked in covenant. His grandfather was so rich and successful that he defeated five kings and their armies with three hundred servants trained in his own house, and that did not include their wives and children. It is fair to say that Abraham had more than one thousand servants in his household. Jacob received two levels of anointing—the birthright and the blessing—yet his uncle Laban taught him how to work for things God had already covenanted to give him. Laban was the first demonic manifestation of the current economic system that governs our world today.

Now it was Jacob’s turn to get angry. He lit into Laban:

So what’s my crime, what wrong have I done you that you badger me like this? You’ve ransacked the place. Have you turned up a single thing that’s yours? Let’s see it—display the evidence. Our two families can be the jury and decide between us. In the twenty years I’ve worked for you, ewes and she-goats never miscarried. I never feasted on the rams
