Lies and Deceit - AD Downey

    CHAPTER 1

    Clinton

T wo months have passed and I have calmed down enough to sleep through the night. For days and weeks this whole situation has consumed all of me. I have another daughter out there that was not raised by me, nor did she have any idea who I am nevertheless her siblings.

I decided that I have stayed away long enough, I called the airport and made reservations and by 3pm the next day I was landing in Greensboro International Airport. I didn’t call Caesar to pick me up, I felt like I had involved him too much as it is. I flagged down a taxi and was on my way home.

Once I got inside I sat in my favorite chair and tried to relax my mind. I know that I will have a lot to deal with Vera for one and my daughter Malise that I never knew about. It feels good and comfortable to be around familiar things. I went over and looked at the pictures on the wall and on the mantle of my children and grandchildren. At one time I had considered not to come back, then it hit me, I would be hurting family and that’s something I could not deal with so here I am.

From my understanding Vera has moved out. So I won’t have her going in and out, but to make sure I will change the locks. I took a hot shower and went to bed that night I slept like a log.

The next day I called Caesar to let him know I was back home. I could hear the relief in his voice. I didn’t mean to put him in the middle and besides no one knew but he and I. Caesar came by the house and I could tell that he has something on his mind. So I told him to tell me and lighten his load. Caesar said that Cynthia is in a mental facility, but got out and attacked Regina in a grocery store parking lot. And to top it all off Regina has mistreated Carlessia and Carmen. As Caesar talked I could tell that the situation was getting at him and that I can understand.

Dad I threw Regina out and have not seen or heard from her since, as a matter of fact I don’t care.

I looked at my son and I could tell that he meant what he said, but for Regina’s sake she needs to keep it moving.

I said Caesar I want to see my daughter Malise and get to know her. I got to try and make up for lost time, but lost time is something that cannot be made up. Caesar have you seen her talked to her? Caesar didn’t say nothing at first he dropped his head.

Dad, Mom will not tell me where she is at, it’s like she is trying to keep Malise under lock and key. But I did some poking around and I got her address.

I know what he means by poking around I am surprised that Caesar running buddy still has a job.

Caesar I don’t know what to say about your mother, I just don’t understand her and what she think she will gain. Son does your running buddy know how Mailse is doing?

Well from my understanding she lost her job with Sunny Cruise Lines. They got bought out and quite a few got pink slips.

I started thinking like a father could. I wanted to help as soon as I can. I asked Caesar for her address, he handed me the paper 2321 Tottlen Dr.

I know the area, I will go to see her soon, but my first stop is Vera.

    CHAPTER 2

    Clinton

I got in my Buick SUV and was on my way to see Vera. I didn’t call to let her know I was coming. I wanted to catch her with her guard down. I drove around the neighborhood a time or two just looking at things.

I parked and strolled up the steps and pressed on the doorbell. I could hear movement and the rustle of the locks being turned. When Vera cracked open the door, our eyes locked. I can honestly say that I was glad to see her, but I have not forgotten what is going on.

May I come in, we need to talk?

Vera stepped aside and I walked in. Before, I walked in too far.

I said Vera open up the blinds and let some sunlight in and why are you in the dark, what is wrong with you?

As she opened the blinds, I sat down and I noticed that something was different about Vera. She looks a mess her hair not fixed and she is not dressed like she should be.

Clinton what do you want to speak to me about?

I want to talk about why you did what you did!

I could tell by the look on her face that was the last thing she wanted to discuss. But I don’t care I need answers. I was getting a little up tight, so I just dove right in.

Look Vera, I am not playing games with you tell me what I came here before!

She looked at me and rolled her eyes and said alright you win, as always!

Vera told me that when she was pregnant, she didn’t know she was pregnant with twins until she gave birth. Unfortunately I was out of town at the time. Vera said that she could not take care of another child with no help and did what she thought was best at the time. I sat there not believing nothing she just said, I honestly think Vera done this out of spite and knew of Malise where abouts all the time.

I sat there for a few more minutes hoping that Vera would say something else. But I looked at her I mean really looked at her and what I saw was that she sat there and lied right in my face. I got up to leave before I choke the pure hell out of her.

Before, I could reach for the door, Vera grabbed me by the arm.

Clinton why don’t you stay a little longer. I pushed her hand off of me and said not if you were last one on this earth, I am done with you, go rot in hell!

    I couldn’t leave fast enough.

    CHAPTER 3

    Vera

I knew sooner or later that Clinton would show his face. I meant to be looking the way I did to make him think I was hurting. I took a hot shower, curled my hair and was ready for whatever came next. I can honestly say what has hurt me the most, is that my other children have barley come to see about me. I took care of them all and this is what I get in return. Clinton said he was out of town working when Malissa and Malise were born. He was laying up with that bitch Walette and helped take care of her child. I have been knowing since Dante and Caesar were little, but I never said nothing to him.

I would see the way Clinton would stare off into space with a smile on his face and when I would come around he would become agitated. Here I have given birth to five of his children and no I was not going to take care of another one of his children. Maybe I was wrong for doing what I did, but I did what I thought was right at the time. I pray that the Lord forgives me. I placed Malise in a good home she was with my cousin actually my second cousin. I always had contact with Malise and I got pictures down through the years. I never kept the pictures at home, because at home no place was safe. I kept them at work in my desk drawer and other mentos.

I didn’t worry about Malise running into any of her siblings because we did not live near each other, across country actually. I am so tired of everything and almost everybody, the more I try the worst things get. And that’s why I want to get away from this situation for a moment.

I thought I was doing the right thing by bringing Malise to meet her family, if I had known things would fall apart I would let sleeping dogs lie.

I know there is an opening at my company in another state, actually it is a transfer. I called Human Resources and the position is still open. I called just in time, I got the transfer. I will be leaving in a few days. That was music to my ears. I called Lawrence my oldest he was happy for me, we talked for a while and the call ended on a good note.

Well, since Clinton and my children that I love so much don’t want me around, I will give them what they want. That night I began to pack, I was in such a good mood I couldn’t help but sing along to the music on the TV. My phone rang and it was my baby girl Malise, she told me that she had lost her job with Sunny Cruise Line. She said that she was waiting on a check from them. I told her not to worry, I had everything under control.

At that minute I stopped what I was doing and went to the bank and closed out of one Clinton’s and my bank account. I kept $15,000 and gave Malise the other $15,000 minus the six months of mortgage and car notes I paid to carry her through.

Vera, I mean Mom, you don’t have to do this.

Malise, I know what I am doing and I know what I got to do. And besides I got something to tell you. I got a job transfer and I will be leaving in a few days.

I could tell that Malise was stunned by the news, she said if that was necessary then she was good with it. I could tell something else was bothering her, but I told myself not to pry let her come to me.

Malise once I get settled I will give you my whereabouts.

Malise said that sounds like a plan and one more thing. You didn’t say but I will not tell anyone where you are.

That made my heart warm and put a smile on my face. For
