    FOREWORD

When I first met Cheron Holland the author of The Bully: Carmen and Artela I worked as a librarian and she was a school teacher. She took her job seriously and cared tremendously for children in general. That caring is probably the basis for her book. Being a teacher, she encountered children from all aspects of life, surely that included bullies and their victims.

Cheron was very active in literacy in our community and imagine my delight when I realized she was an author and her first book had addressed an overlooked but prevalent ill of our society-bullying. Bullying is a growing menace for children as young as Kindergarten and adults all the way to their eighties and beyond. It is also the fastest growing Psychological abuse in our country. This book should be introduced in classrooms as a curriculum to openly discuss and study this phenomenon with students.

I learned that Cheron had authored this book when my Library hosted an Author’s Showcase which she participated. I was overjoyed to have an author of her caliber be a part of the Showcase. Later when the Royal Writers Guild of Cenla evolved from that initial program and she became a member, we were so fortunate to have her be a part of us.

Since that time Cheron has contributed short stories and poems to the Royal Writers’ Anthologies. We have, along with several other authors from our area, mentored younger writers and helped them get their books to publication. Her new book Snow Day promises to be as important and entertaining as The Bully.

For all of you adults who have had trouble explaining bullying to your children, the storyline is this book will make it easier. Cheron has taken her classroom experiences with children and weaved them into this story.

As a librarian, I am sure that children of all ages will benefit greatly from reading The Bully and Snow Day. As a writer of three children books, ABCs of What I Can Be, The ABCs of What God is to Me, and The ABCs of Black History, Cheron’s works are masterpieces of children literature.

    INTRODUCTION

Snow Day is the glimpse into the lives of 7th grade students at Mt. Triumph Elementary School. As they anticipate a snowstorm, they prepare for their final School Assembly for the school year. The competition at Winter Assembly is fierce and the students prepare months for their performances. The predicted forecast could result in a Snow Day and cancel the much-anticipated Musical. Carmen and Artela join new friends as they journey through the last few days of school before Christmas break.

    PROLOGUE

Please let the snow stop falling. I promise to help my mom with all the chores, even the dishes for the next two weeks. Third whispered as he glanced at the sky through his bedroom window. He watched his dad as he scraped the ice from his frozen truck window. Dad had already began warming his truck and shoveling the snow gathered on the front sidewalks and driveway this morning. Third could smell something delightful coming from downstairs. His mother was already up and the smell of breakfast permeated the air. Hopefully the forecast was wrong and the snow falling wouldn’t result in a Snow Day, he really wanted to go to school today. Today’s rehearsal was essential for Wednesday’s Winter Assembly performance.

Mom, is school cancelled, Third yelled downstairs. "No, darling. The news said the snow will stop falling soon. You
