ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
First, I would like to thank God for His mercy, grace, and love. He bestowed every day of my life on me. I have remained upright because of God’s love and kindness. All the glory, honor, and praise belong to the Lord. This book is an act of obedience to God’s purpose in my life. His continuous guidance and leadership have made me who I am.
Second, I would like to thank my wife, Rose Mamo, for supporting me through prayer and encouragement. She has been an incredible wife and helper. God has taught me a lot through her, and I am thankful God brought us together.
Third, I would like to thank my parents, Dr. Ermias Mamo and Amarech Milikyas Mamo, for their prayers and encouragement. God brought us to America from a nomadic land in southern Ethiopia. Our journey was not easy, but God’s eternal grace kept us steady.
Finally, I am thankful for my relatives in Ethiopia and my wife’s family in America for their encouraging words. Prophet Ermias Balcha, apostle Belete, pastor Bill, and the Wood Village Baptist community have been a great support system and body of Christ.
INTRODUCTION
Everyone on Earth is precious to God whether we believe it or not. In my life, I have made many mistakes that I regret. I made those mistakes because I was lost and didn’t know who to turn to. I came to realize that my greatest hope was Jesus and decided to put all my hope and trust in Him. That decision helped me grow as a young man and led me to write a book that encouraged positive transformation through Jesus Christ.
Life does not always turn out the way we want it to, and the question is Why?
The answer is in this book’s title: Biblical Soul Leadership. As Christians, we were raised to believe that if we were Christians, then everything would and should be perfect. Parents, churches, and communities didn’t know how to explain what it meant to be a Christian, because they were never clearly taught by their own parents.
Now, whose fault is it? Nobody’s. As believers, we need to continuously seek God and be transformed by Him. True transformation begins with knowing the truth. When regarding the Pharisees, Jesus tells His disciples, If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit
(Matthew 15:14 NIV). In other words, your faith should focus not on the church, theology, or Christian leaders but the finished work of Christ. Biblical Soul Leadership focuses on making Jesus Christ the foundation of our faith and defining the soul according to the word of God. Its teaching are necessary because parents, churches, and communities haven’t been teaching their congregation about the combined power of Christ and the soul.
Many churches and communities talk about the power of Christ, which is important, but they don’t apply power to the soul. In this book, the soul will be explained in a simple structure. Many Christians have the power of Christ, but they do not know how to apply it.
There are many movies with superheroes who have superpowers. What if the superheroes did not know how to use their superpowers? Their enemies would hurt them and destroy their lives. Many Christians are like that. So, how do we learn to use our superpowers? By understanding every aspect of the soul.
The word soul
has lost its real meaning. Many individuals will say they know Jesus, but they live a defeated life full of fear, loss, lust, addiction, and depression. As a result, many negative questions arise. Why don’t I experience the victory of Christ? Why do I feel like a loser? Why am I always angry with God? Why is life empty? Is God even real? If God is real, why do I have so much pain and sorrow in my life? Now that I am a Christian, why do I suffer more than unbelievers? Is God perfect? Is God’s word reliable? The questions go on. We all have asked at least one of these questions at one time or another, and that’s okay. God always rescued us.
In Hebrew, the word for soul is nephesh, which is translated as a soul, living being, life, self, person, desire, passion, appetite, emotion.
This definition is so broad it’s confusing. The Greek word for soul is psuché, which is translated as the vital breath, breath of life, the human soul, the soul as the seat of affections and will, the self, a human person, an individual.
It’s essential to understand the simple definition. Why write a book if a simple definition is available? The answer is simple: understanding the definition of a soul is not enough to transform individuals and nations. The word soul
needs a revelation from God in order to transform and deliver humanity. Many authors who have written about the soul have had great resources, information, and knowledge, but they haven’t grabbed their readers’ attention.
Many Christians define themselves as people who were called to live in misery without a victory, but John 16:33 states, I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world
(NIV). Many believers have misunderstood and misinterpreted this verse, focusing on the trouble instead of the fact that we can overcome the trouble. We have heard many
