About this ebook

A diverse collection of wisdom snippets and inspirational quotes with Alaskan photographs and musings of a Been There – Seen That – sometimes wish I hadn’t – Done That prodigal son.

“I am not what I ought to be.

I am not what I want to be.

I am not what I hope to be.

But still, I am not what I used to be.

And, by the grace of God, I am what I am.”

This quote was penned by John Newton, a former slave ship captain who, after meeting his Savior, would give us the beloved hymn Amazing Grace. His quote echoes my heart’s song... another redeemed, work-in-progress prodigal son traveling towards Eternity.

Wisdom for Eternity Travelers addresses spiritual battles Christians fight, not the horrors of wars fought on battlefields. Having served in the USMC during the Vietnam era, I was among those fortunate to return home alive, and without the physical and mental scars many of my brothers and sisters in arms suffered. My heart goes out to them.

In honor and respect to all those who have bravely fought and paid dearly for the freedom we enjoy as Americans, all proceeds from this book will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.

I am not what I ought to be. I am not what I want to be. I am not what I hope to be. But still, I am not what I used to be. And by the grace of God, I am what I am." Perhaps these words penned by John Newton, a former slave ship captain who later gave us beloved hymn Amazing Grace, best describe me. I'm a continuing work-in-progress redeemed prodigal traveling towards Home.

To Mom, who began her eternity travel after ninety-four years blessing lives here, seventy-four of which were spent unconditionally loving her oldest prodigal in spite of his countless failures, faults, and frustrations. Her life silently told the love and mercy of Jesus more than any spoken words I ever heard … and gently nudged me to the foot of the Cross.

    Acknowledgements

I’m extremely grateful for each author’s quotes appearing on these pages. They provided inspirational sparks of wisdom and encouragement in the epiphany of those sudden ‘Ah-ha’ moments of understanding.

My ultimate heartfelt gratitude, however, belongs to all those many individuals whom God graciously placed along my life’s path. Family, friend, acquaintance, and … yes … even foe, at precisely the right times in their own unique ways, He fit each into my life’s mosaic. Each individual, knowingly, and unknowingly, has helped me navigate my journey far better than I could have ever done alone.

Your loving patience, guidance, compassion and enduring support sustained and brought me here. I thank my Abba for putting each and every one you in my life.

Had I spoke less and listened more … the
