    Dedication

To my three brave, courageous young adults.

They are the reason I breathe and do what I do. I love them to the moon and back. I am filled with tremendous honor to have been chosen to be their mom. Their lives are young and free, with tenacity and an abundance of love, grace, and generosity. My son-in-law is so wonderful, and his love for my daughter brightens life. They welcomed a baby during the 2020 pandemic into our world. He has brought so much joy and laughter, fun and relentless faith into our hearts.

    In Loving Memory

Margie—my adoring, loving mama, who taught me how to be a woman of courage and bravery in the face of life. She led by example how to love those in need, to never hesitate to give back to the church that takes care of others, and to rescue animals. She treated others the way she wanted to be treated. Her nickname for me and my kids was Love. My heart aches with grief still, yet I truly anticipate our reunion and am so grateful she is with her son again.

    *

My Daddy—who was like no other. An entrepreneur, and that dad who defended his family, loved his grandkids more than life itself, and was generous, with a keen awareness of those in need around him. There were many valuable lessons learned from my daddy. I miss him terribly, yet anticipate the reunion we will have together.

    *

My Brother—better known as Chip, my brother, whom we lost early in life; yet he made an impact on me to grasp the power a brother holds in a sister’s life. The best brother anyone could ever have, who loved with a heart bigger than life and was a musician who was talented beyond words.

    *

Paul Dana Walker—my husband. Our marriage was magical. That time provided me a platform to understand what pastors’ wives maneuver through in church, and to love life with a confidence and boldness that, whatever life tosses in your way, Jesus is bigger.

A promise we all have: we will see our loved ones again. Heaven is filling up with cheerleaders, hanging over the clouds.

    *

To my father in law who passed away in 2021. We went through so much together with the loss of your son, yet the love that grew out of that moment in time lead to a lifetime of memories. You are with your boy cheering us all on.

    Acknowledgement

A special shout-out to Dr. Charles Stanley: your ministry from the pulpit took ahold of my daddy’s heart and melted the wax away, making his heart do flips for Jesus. Wow. Dr. Stanley, no one had that kind of influence over this self-made man who could do anything he put his mind to. Thank you for this eternal gift. This is the passage my dad clung to:

God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:19-20 (NIV)

Thank you, David W., for encouraging me to tell my daddy’s story. He loved us relentlessly and unapologetically giving us a legacy of Jesus. He is a legend in so many ways. My daddy was for sure for family first, and he gambled with life in ways some will not understand; yet he loved us relentlessly and died giving us a legacy of Jesus. You were pivotal in my life, young man, in inspiring me to write this book
