    Acts - Kurt Olson

    Introduction

Are you tired of reading Bible studies by highly educated Christians that are full of content that is difficult to understand? I was too. That is why I wrote this down to earth, easy to read and understand book.

Call it a Bible study, commentary or daily devotional on the book of the Bible - Acts. Out of a four year reading and studying of the entire Bible, comes these honest, thought provoking and sometimes controversial thoughts from me on the book of Acts, a book in the New Testament of the Bible. It is not written by a Bible scholar, minister, missionary or even a teacher. It is not written by someone who is trying to impress the reader on how smart he is. No, it is written by a person you can relate to even more. It is written by a person who is someone like YOU. It is written in a style like you and I think and talk. And it is also written in a conversational, easy to read style that is much more personable. I’m not going to go over every little detail in every chapter. But rather give you a broad overview and voice my opinions on some of scriptures.

I’d love to hear your thoughts about the scriptures as we study this together. So if you ever want to share your thoughts with me, you can email me at ABibleStudyWithSomeoneLikeYou@outlook.com

    Chapter 1

    Jesus Taken up to Heaven

Before I dive into chapter one, let me briefly mention that Acts is a book about the development of the early church. Acts is written by Luke who was known to be a physician.

I didn’t recall this, but Luke tells us that after Jesus’ death and resurrection that He remained on the earth for forty days. I don’t think that has been taught too much in church, do you? I’m thinking that gave a lot of people a chance to be a witness of Jesus brought back from the dead!

Jesus tells the disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they get the gift of the Holy Spirit from God. Jesus also tells them that in a few days when they do receive the Holy Spirit of God that they will be given power to be witnesses for Him to the ends of the earth. Right after He says this, Jesus is taken up right before their eyes and a cloud hid Him from their view and on His way to heaven. Wow! Could you imagine the awe this put in the disciples? I think we can now better understand the power and motivation the disciples have in sharing with the world about Christ. They lived around Jesus and saw Him perform many miracles for three years, then they saw Him die and be risen from the dead and stay on the earth for forty more days and then ascend to heaven right before them.

From verse 11 angels appear to the disciples and tell them (and us) that when Jesus returns to earth again, that He will come back as He left, descending in a cloud. Now that Jesus had left them, they return
