ANGELA CLARK studied Romanian literature with the historian and professor Dennis Deletant at the University of London School of Slavonic and East European Studies. She went on to work with the United Nations and British Council in Bucharest and elsewhere in Romania and the Moldavia region while doing research for her Ph.D. thesis. She was working on her acclaimed translation of My Childhood at the Gate of Unrest inside Romania at the very end of the Ceauşescu regime, when the Securitate (secret police) were on the lookout against all signs of dissent and especially against prominent opponents in exile like Paul Goma. The secret police took an inordinate interest in anyone purchasing ballpoint or fountain pens and ink, as this might indicate uncensored writing or dissident activity. Therefore Angela completed the translation entirely in pencil and had it conveyed secretly to London for typing, editing, and final publication by Readers International.

God's Divine Intervention - Angela Clark

    CHAPTER 1

HOW GOD SPOKE TO ME ONE DAY AT A TIME

Before I begin my story of how God spends moments with me every day, I must first state how it all began:

Reclining on my patio swing, I was conversing with my partner, Jonathan. He jumped up from his chair and told me that God had said he was to pray for me. At first I was alarmed at his insistent tone; this message seemed quite urgent.

I stood up, and he placed his hands on each side of my head at ear level. He started praying, and then he began speaking in tongues. I was frightened because I had never heard someone do this. It sounded like a foreign language, which I did not understand. His voice took on a deep tone and was lively enough to be alarming, because it shook me.

In the blink of an eye, I felt as if a hot lightning bolt had entered the top of my head, and a fire had filled my entire body from inside. Still, this was not painful. My body went limp, and I fell to the floor. What felt like electrical impulses stirred my inner soul.

I began crying and was so weak I could not sit up from where I was lying. I could not understand what had occurred. What was wrong with my body? Why did I feel like something was inside of me? I could not explain what had just happened.

I stayed where I was on the floor for a little while because I was too weak to stand. Neither Jonathan nor I could decipher this occurrence. The next day and over the following week, we both discovered what it was that exactly had occurred.

Every evening we spend time on the patio where we pray and talk about God through scriptures or spiritual books for reference.

The very next day after the inexplicable event, I decided to look at a spiritual book and read. I looked at a word, stopped, then arose and stood up. I began preaching and did so nonstop for an hour without having to refer to a Bible or any spiritual book. This went on for a week. In this way, we both discovered that God had anointed me as he had his disciples many years before.

We decided to utilize the anointing that God had given me and present his word to individuals in a nursing home. We felt this was one place where the word was required, as those who dwelled within would receive something of the past to remind them of their heavenly Father. Some might not be able to attend church, and we might bring the memory of attending church from their past.

I need to return to yesteryear when I was around twenty-four years of age. My husband’s grandmother was in a nursing home, and we both went to visit her.

As my husband, Michael, talked to his grandmother, I noticed another lady who shared the room with her yet had no one to talk to. I decided to visit with her. We talked about God and whatever else she felt comfortable discussing. When Michael and I decided to leave, she had tears in her eyes and asked us to come back. It was then that I asked God to give me an opportunity to be able to assist others in a nursing home. Perhaps it would involve reading books to those who had no visitors or just talking with them. I could not have imagined that God would provide me with the tools necessary to perform his will in offering his word to others when I reached the age of sixty-nine.

You see, God performs and provides answers in his perfect timing. Now that I am retired, God felt the need for me to fulfill his wish. Now, I am not only reading to residents, I am also teaching them God’s word as well.

Oh, how I praise God for his anointing and his blessings that I may pass on to others that which he wishes me to do. You see, I am but a humble servant who wishes to please God and give him all the glory. Yes, I would not be able to perform my sermons without God giving me the knowledge to do so. I will never take credit for what I do, because this is God’s will and not mine. I seek no reward, monies, or thanks. I feel blessed to be able to perform the duties for which he has equipped me.

I have seen changes in the way the residents react each and every time a sermon has been given. In doing so, I must always prepare the assignment so that they may understand. Some residents have Alzheimer’s disease or suffer from dementia. Still others share their stories and enjoy singing the songs of praise. My partner and I welcome their participation. Some may read a favorite poem or sing their favorite song. Medical research has shown that those who suffer from dementia appear to react to various songs. It enlightens my heart to see how the music makes them smile!

On one occasion, as a resident was reading a poem, another resident shouted out that she also knew a poem. Oh my goodness, the enthusiasm that she portrayed. She then recited the poem about Humpty Dumpty. She was forceful and excited to say each and every line, waving her hands about and stomping her feet. She was rejoicing! She even stated how much she loved Jesus. So you see, one little part during the sermon can really release their happy memories and bring about a day they may or may not remember. But oh, for a short time they were happy!

Over time, Jonathan and I prayed for release of their pains and healing. They have come to trust that God will meet their needs. Once we have prayed for their healing through our Lord, Jesus Christ, and completed the sermon, we permit them to testify how God has worked wonders for them. What joy it brings them to testify and tell us what they may have done for others through the week while they await our return.

Jonathan and I have been preaching at the nursing home for approximately two years now. Each time I learn something new that God has shown me in preparation for the sermons.

I attempt to spend at least an hour every morning with the Lord. I begin by reading a daily devotional. As I read the devotional, my mind begins to drift off, and I begin talking to Jesus. The wording comes upon me so quickly that I am inclined to write it down lest I forget. I experience great difficulty writing down the words, as they seem to come so rapidly and in succession that my hands become weary from writing.

At this time, words come to mind as if God were speaking to me. As I write them down, I feel as if God were sitting next to me, and we were conversing face to face. Mind you, I do not see God or hear him audibly. They are but thoughts. I know them to be from God because of how the words are addressed, and I do not make the words up as I go along. Each day there is so much information I am receiving that sometimes I must look up and say, Jesus, I am glad you are with me today. I know not what he plans to convey to me, but sometimes I have dreams in which he tells me to write about a particular subject.

God granted me the gift of prophecy when I was still a small child. Rarely does it involve others; however, I do receive these dreams when something major it about to occur that would directly affect me. I believe God has granted me this gift so that I may prepare myself for the event that is about to occur, especially the difficult times that are going to come my way. I know that God only gives us what we can handle, and if we feel we cannot master something ourselves, we need only ask him, and we will see that all our needs are met.

My mother was diagnosed with lung cancer in July of 2015. She was given six months to live. Hospice was contacted, and mother spent the rest of her time in my living room in a hospital bed. I had experienced so many back injuries I was afraid I would be unable to lift her from the bed when required. The bathroom was a short distance away, and she had a walker. However, the day came when she no longer could walk to the bathroom, and it was necessary to utilize a portable toilet. It was during these times that I faced much difficulty lifting her.

Three and one half weeks before my mother passed, I agreed to meet with a gentleman (now my partner, Jonathan) I had met on an online computer dating service. I was to meet him for breakfast accompanied by his daughter and two grandchildren. A church friend arrived at my home to stay and care for Mother while I was away on a date. The gentleman I met was very nice. Somehow God portrayed to me that I could trust this man and asked him if he would like to follow me in his vehicle to where I resided and meet my mother. Jonathan came by and sat with Mother for a few hours. The next day he brought her some flowers. I was surprised that he wanted to remain with me since I was unable to leave my mother at home alone in her condition. He really enjoyed visiting with Mother and me. I learned that his wife of thirty-five years had died of lung cancer, and he was well aware of what was required of a care giver.

Each day he visited, he brought a gift to my mother. She used to love sitting in a chair and viewing the birds outside her kitchen window.

Following the death of my husband in 2009, I decided to build an efficiency apartment from my garage. I wanted my mother to reside with me, yet have her own privacy. We got to spend all of six years together.

Some of Jonathan’s purchases for my mother included glass and wooden birds so she could keep watching her beloved birds. In addition, he purchased a wooden birdhouse and placed it, along with the birds, on a coffee table right next to Mother’s bed. Her eyes lit up ever so brightly when she saw what Jonathan had done. She would remark, Look at the birdies! You see, she was regressing back to childhood as the cancer progressed. It made me happy to witness the moments when she indicated how delighted she was. One time Jonathan brought a beautiful large porcelain doll, clad in a pink silk dress and outlined in lace. She wore a cap of olden days with lace and silk and ribbons on her arms.

    OldFashionedDoll.jpg

This is a picture of the doll my mother loved to look at. She is now resting in a rocking chair.

Following my mother’s death, I cross-stitched a cloth with her name surrounded by two angels, and placed it on top of the rocking chair.

When Mother first glanced at the doll, she stated, Look at the pretty baby. She looks like my baby when she was little! Her joy was immense and came from her heart.

One day Jonathan brought her a cross necklace with red artificial rubies, quite a heavy object. She insisted on wearing it to bed, but I talked her into just looking at the pretty necklace on an adjoining stand next to her bed. I was afraid she would choke on it, as it could have tightened around her neck as she slept.

While Mother was napping, he and I decided to go into the backyard. He was going to look at something on my roof to figure out why I had a small leak. As he was standing atop the patio roof, he stopped and informed me that I had to do something. What is it? I asked.

God said he wants to talk to you, and if you are to receive him, you must sit on a bench in your garden and pray to him. If he comes, he will arrive in the form of a dove.

The next day I walked over to a cement bench I had in my backyard garden and sat upon it. I closed my eyes and began to pray. Lord, I pleaded, my mother’s condition is worsening, and I am afraid that I will not be able to perform the tasks required for her health and welfare. I love my mother and want to give her the best care possible.

As my eyes were closed, I started to see a vision in color. I could hardly understand how I was able to do this with my eyes closed. But lo and behold, my vision began with two feet as if they wore moccasins or sandals a light brown in color. As the vision progressed, I began to see a beige frock of some kind which consisted of a long, flowing blue cloak surrounding the body. I began to see two arms, and in the left hand of this individual I saw what appeared to be a staff of some sort. I can only relate it to you as something that a sheepherder would hold. A ribbon or bow was attached under the curvature of the staff. As the vision continued, I saw long flowing brown hair and a bright light encompassing this figure. I was not shown the face, as it appeared as a gray or foggy oval shape. However, I knew I was looking at Jesus. I began to cry out to Jonathan, I am looking at Jesus! I don’t understand it, but I am seeing Jesus. I then wept uncontrollably.

Jonathan sat next to me on the bench, and as I opened my eyes I focused on the tree in the back corner of my garden. Next to the tree was a neighbor’s storage shed. Above it, to my amazement, a pristine white dove appeared as if floating down from the heavens ever so slowly, flapping its wings, and landed on top of the shed. The dove’s eyes gazed upon me and stayed there for several minutes. I said, Thank you, Jesus, for hearing my prayer. Then an amazing event occurred. The white dove flapped its wings again in slow motion and lifted off skyward toward the heavens. It departed as it had appeared, wings outstretched as if floating upward to heaven.

I remained seated on the bench; however, as I continued looking in amazement. I then began to feel something enveloping me as a warm and awesome love. I peered upward and gazed at the colorful sun’s rays, knowing I had witnessed what few individuals will never see.

I attempted to arise from my bench so that I might rush in and convey to my mother what I had seen. However, I fell to the ground. I determined that God had indeed visited me in the garden. His spirit was so powerful and encompassing that it reached out and touched me. I lost all strength and had to wait and get assistance in arising.

Oh, but who would believe? I did not care because it was something special that I had shared with Jesus.

At the time of my vision I did not own a statue of Jesus; however, I purchased one following my vision. I had it painted with the colors I saw in my vision. The garment was a sandy beige color, and the robe was a bright blue in color. The statue is one where Jesus kneels in the Garden on the Mount of Olives.

Jonathan and I often touch the statue’s hands, and as we do, we feel an electrified pulse and gaze into Jesus’s eyes. It is an awesome feeling as if he were actually gazing into my soul.

I am not an artist but drew up a sign and had a professional complete it from my design. The sign reads Garden of Paradise dedicated to Jesus hanging at the entrance into my backyard. It measures about eighteen inches in length and about nine inches in width. It consists of a blue background with white wording. The circumference of the sign is in white to bring out the texture of the sign.

In addition to drawing the sign, I had two doves engraved and painted white on each side of the top of the sign. This signified that the Holy Spirit appeared to me in the form of a dove each time I look upon it.

I placed the sign directly above the entrance into the backyard where it is easily visible. It is also signifies the garden where everything occurred.

You see, when we truly possess faith, the things that appear to us without understanding can only come from God. Who shall we say would do so otherwise?

Did God talk to Noah, Abraham or Moses? Throughout the Bible God has spoken to various individuals. However, his power is so strong that when he talked, the mountains shook, and even Moses’s hair became white. He is too powerful to be seen, yet he sent his son for us to know that he is with us always until our time to go before him in heaven.

If you only believe and ask, nothing is impossible for God to perform or give answers, even more than what you originally had asked for. Yes, but to believe. Are you a true believer? Do you believe and understand those times when events occurred happenstance, or perhaps you know that they could not have occurred through any human?

Sometimes when we see or hear things, we attempt to shake them off as if we were only seeing things. Why is this so hard for us to accept?

Just ponder over and read upon the things that happened to the disciples while they were with Jesus. Even as events took place in front of them, they still could not believe what their eyes were seeing—Jesus calming the storms with a wave of his hand or walking on the water toward them in a storm. Who could raise the dead? Who could cast out demons and heal the blind and sick?

Who could tell us things about God unless they were God or spent time with God? Jesus informed many of why we were created. At the beginning of his teachings, Jesus could not inform others who he was. It was only at the appropriate time that he could do this. Why? I tend to believe that he knew he was to be crucified for our transgressions. Perhaps if everyone else had known he was the Son of God, they might not have had him crucified. But God knew that Jesus had to fulfill his mission so that others could receive salvation. Without it, there is no eternal life such as that which awaits us now.

So as I write my messages, I hope that you understand what it is that God wants me to portray. He is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one may enter heaven unless they truly believe and accept Jesus as their Savior. I want to convey to you today that God can do the same for you. Just invite him in every day, if just for a little while. Chat with him, and read his holy Bible or other Christian scriptural passages. He will certainly join you when you do so. All you have to do is give it a try. It does not cost anything but your time.

Now I will proceed to tell you all that he has given me so that you may see how important his words are. Continue to read the following messages that I received from God every day. I hope that you will learn from them and see how easy it is to receive the word.

Your day will be enlightened, and you will feel overjoyed to know that God is with you all the time and is watching over all that you do. Make this day special, and continue reading what was he has given through our daily visits via the Holy Spirit.

    CHAPTER 2

WHAT THE HOLY SPIRIT REVEALED TO ME

Prayer: We know it is good for us, a healthy habit we want to include in our lifestyle. But do you really appreciate the awesome power of prayer? How can you deepen your prayer life, make it more vital and energized?

Here is an example of what happened to me one day while I was reading the Bible and the Holy Spirit spoke to me.

Big Anxieties Need Big Faith: Many individuals worry constantly about their tomorrows, but Jesus informed the disciples that they were not to worry about everyday life and whether they had enough food, drink, and clothes. Doesn’t life consist of more than food and clothing? This holds true in today’s world as well.

My life is always accompanied by a nervous condition with underlying nerves that always appear electrified, making it painful even to touch the skin. I rarely rest more than four hours a night, and then fitfully. I believe it results from heredity and the injuries I’ve received throughout my lifetime. A few of them should have resulted in death; however, our gracious Father decided he needed me around a while, as my purpose in life had not yet been fulfilled.

I used to think that I had too many issues to present to God, but over the years I have come to understand that by being intimate with him each and every day, I have grown in my faith, knowing that my requests are being received and answered. Sometimes my requests have been met immediately.

Are you one of those who feel that your prayers are insignificant? Or perhaps you feel that the prayers of others were more important and required more attention than yours?

God does not select any particular person at a particular time. God is happy to hear from us and answers all requests. This is why we are given the Holy Spirit. With the Holy Spirit, God dwells within us every day.

God knows your needs and wants you to come to him. How then can he answer and take care of our requests if we don’t present them to him?

I used to feel that my needs were insignificant and that others needed God more. Now I pray to God for everything, including his awesome healing power.

I know God has granted me a wonderful gift. How can I know this? Sometimes as I lay my hand out and touch myself or someone else, almost immediately, heat radiates from my hand, causing me to feel that God is working through me. You have to believe to understand this gift from God.

You see, I do not want to rely on pills for pain relief. I want to rely on God as my awesome healer. I know that I am worth a lot to God, as he has never forsaken me. I discovered that I could not control situations on my own. At times, I feel immediate relief resulting in a pleasant warm rush of euphoria as God listens to my pleas and works to correct all issues. Whether they involve grief, pain, loneliness, hurt from others, or a need for someone to care about what is taking shape in my life, with God in control, I have no reason to fret or fear.

The Bible is filled with God’s promises to provide, but sometimes we doubt them because of the length of time it takes to receive answers.

The Bible tells us not to worry because we are worthy of his love and care. The Lord knows our needs before we do. He creates things so that we will open our eyes to focus on him. We have to believe that he will always love us and answer all our needs.

I say, Lord, I pray that you will continue to heal me. I will never doubt you and have faith knowing you hear my request. I ask also that you let me slumber and rest so my anxieties are flowing away, as from an open faucet, draining away never to return. I want to rely on you as my Father who loves me. I promise to serve you and become your vessel of compliance, receiving your word and giving it. Thank you for these gifts that I wish to share because of your love for me.

Prayer does many things. Matthew 7:8 states: For everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. As I read this Scripture, the Holy Spirit again spoke to me, and I answered him by praying the following:

Lord, do you know how often these verses are utilized? If only we as Christians would all unite and pray for peace and love among all men. Even though wars have been fought since mankind first existed, mankind has not received the Word from you. The main reason for our being is to love and fellowship with you first with all our hearts, and do well unto others! What a massive amount of love that prayer can perform and provide to others.

Lord, how did religion become so misconstrued? Your words have been changed per man’s ideals and beliefs and not yours.

Heaven is but a narrow gate. Refer to Matthew 7:13, which reads: Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat. How many realize the key that they require to enter into your kingdom? How many today receive you and Jesus as Lord?

Oh, but how we wish that we could turn things around today as life was meant to be at creation! Lord, I look forward to the day the earth will be your kingdom as in heaven. For it will be heaven!

Lord, I want to feel no more pain, hurt, or suffering. I want to see and visit with my loved ones in heaven. Alas, I know my time is short, but Lord, I know in my heart you do and will continue to utilize my services and commit others to love you and receive your word. I pray that I may always serve you all the days of my life, until I draw my last breath. I pray I have done your will, served you satisfactorily, and humbly seek your being pleased with me and my efforts.

For unto you I commit my life and soul to dwell in your house with you forever. My awesome heavenly Father, I thank you for my anointing from which all your words flow. My love for you is endless and true! I want to work hard and cheerfully for you. I will always do my very best to meet your needs!

For those of you who are weary of pain and need deliverance, devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. Do not be weary in prayer; keep at it. Watch for God’s answers, and remember to be thankful when they come!

As I spent time with the Lord today, I received from him what have written above. I beseech all of you to read his word and to spend time with your Father God this very day. He will enrich your life beyond your wildest imagination. Every moment, every day you spend with him, your Holy Spirit will grow, and you will begin to see that you can have faith in receiving every trial, tribulation, heartache, and yes, even death so much more easily. You will begin to understand what God wants you to. For each trial or tribulation you overcome, you are growing with the faith, patience, and perseverance to overcome each and every situation. Yes, it is not easy, and sometimes it takes years to overcome; however, remember that the Lord is walking beside you.

Take a hold of his hand, walk with him, and talk with him. For as you pray anew to him with each situation, you find it is easier to accept, but never forget. However, God does soften our hearts overtime and sometimes sends angels to assist us at the chosen moment of the bad times we experience.

For to reach the mountain and be able to behold the beauty of the skies, clouds and freshness of air, one must sometimes be down in the valley.

There is a song entitled God of the Mountain, and it states The God of the mountain is the God of the Valley, and the God of the daytime is the God of the night. What this is saying is that God is with you every day through any type of situation you are experiencing. Just have faith and rely on him.

    Praise God!

    Praise God!

    CHAPTER 3

    DEATH

Do you think about death often? Why? I can’t give a substantive answer on this, as I appear to dwell on the subject quite frequently. Perhaps the reason is that I was the first one to witness and discover the bodies of my relatives soon after they had passed on. It is not easy to behold. The appearance of our body changes when we die.

I am 70 years old and know that I am on the last stretch of my journey. However, my day of death is only known to God. Surely, there are a great deal of people who have lived up to and over 100 years of age. I have a friend at the nursing home; where I minister, who will soon be 101 years old. She can sing out Amazing Grace that shakes your body to the core. She also remembers every word of Psalm 23. I wonder how many of us would be able to remember these things when we age. She is just an endearing and loving lady. So you see, God keeps us around until our missions are fulfilled. It may be that my friend is needed to bring joy to others in the nursing home. She must truly relate stories of her lifetime which brings joy to others. Isn’t it wonderful to hear stories of those who have aged and learn so much by what they have experienced?

Reading the Bible, we discover that death came into the world because of Adam and Eve, and because of what Christ did, there is resurrection from the dead.

Once when I pondered death, knowing Mother was dying, I told her the following: Mother, I hope I am holding your hand when you pass on and witness your spirit ascend into heaven.

Well, I was with Mother as she passed and did not see her spirit ascend; however, God gave me something even more astounding.

As I gazed upon my mother’s body, I glanced at the brick wall behind where she laid, and lo and behold … I saw what I believe to be the hem of an angel’s garment. It glided across the brick wall and then rose upward very quickly toward the heavens—up into the ceiling on the way to heaven.

Several days before Mother passed, she told me she saw a golden ring to the right of the doorway up on the ceiling. I informed her that perhaps it would be the portal to heaven through which the angels intended to carry her spirit. She waved her hand at me, saying, No, that is not it! However, this is the direction the vision of an angel’s robe took and ascended shortly after she took her last breath.

Father God, how I thank you for the wonderful vision that was bestowed upon me as I watched the angel’s garment rise ever so swiftly as if travelling to heaven with my mother’s soul and spirit. Even before this experience, I was privileged to see my mother speak to spirits that had gone on before her. She beheld friends and relatives in short glimpses and spoke to them.

A few days before she died, she began describing what she was glimpsing of heaven. She spoke of the beautiful flowers … Look at the beautiful flowers —oops, they are gone. She repeated this over and over. I thank God for the gift of experiencing all of this in preparation for Mother’s passing.

With the death of Jesus, death is swallowed up in victory, because with his death and resurrection we are given salvation.

Having the privilege of seeing Mother pass on to heaven was a gift. She was excited about meeting the Lord and in good spirits, even though she was chronically sick as the cancer worsened in her last few weeks. However, a small amount of morphine helped her sleep and relax. During her last few weeks and as her cancer progressively worsened, she never complained. She had originally been given from six months to a year remaining of her life, yet she only lived for four months following her diagnosis. I never realized how strong my mother’s will really was.

Mother and I were able to spend a lot of time together in my home as I tended to all her needs. Her hospital bed was situated in my living room equipped with a television and a window to view the outside world. There was nothing I would not have done to make her smile. We both grew lovingly close and enjoyed our time together.

It was difficult to see her experience illness. Mother laughed when I told her we were playing role reversal. When I was young, she attended to all my needs. Now it was my turn, changing diapers, seeing she received her baths, and providing her meals. It was a pleasure to talk about the past and enjoy each other’s company until she was too ill to enjoy anything but resting and being pain free.

If you ever need to pray for others, please include a petition for all the care givers in the world. They have a need for strength, courage, and patience as they perform duties necessary to keep their loved one as comfortable as possible. They are required to smile when they feel like crying. Caregivers experience chronic fatigue, yet they focus on tasks at hand, never indicating they are even tired. The most needed request is faith to endure, overcome, and be happy, knowing this particular time will eventually be the last they will see their loved one on earth. It is truly a blessing from God to make peace if needed and love them with the love God gives us.

    CHAPTER 4

    HEALING

Father God, I acknowledge your presence as I pray to you this moment. For it is my prayer that I receive your healing power today.

Prayers offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. And, if prayer is offered in faith; the Lord will honor your request.

Continue to pray without ceasing. Not every prayer for healing is answered in the way and time frame we hope for. Sometimes, emotional or spiritual healing takes place, while physical healing does not. God can raise us up in different ways.

Prayer: Father God, I pray your will be done. Not mine. Help me to trust and have faith while waiting for perfect healing in whatever way you see fit. I am aware that my health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever. Amen.

The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit (Psalm 34:17–18). Yes, the Lord hears the godly man, the one who obeys his commands. When he cries out to him for help, God answers his request and takes away all his troubles. When you are ill or in pain, God is near. As any parent who has ever loved a child knows, he aches with you, as well as for you.

My own grandchild, Danielle, was diagnosed with cancer at the age of fourteen months. How heartbreaking that was to her mother, Renée and me. Renée discovered, when Danielle was diagnosed with cancer, that she herself was pregnant with another child, who later turned out to be a little girl. Renée resided out of state and had to travel two hours one way to be with Danielle in a hospital that specialized in treating children with cancer. Danielle’s cancerous tumor began at her esophagus and ended up attached to her heart. What a prognosis, and how would she ever survive?

Renée did not receive help from family or relatives and had to sleep on a small cot in the hospital with no money for food and a hotel room. Unfortunately, I resided out of state and had accepted a new job; therefore, I was unable to be with her physically. However, I managed to contact several churches and formed a major prayer group. Every day people would continue to pray for my granddaughter’s healing.

After many months of chemotherapy treatment, the medical staff was able to shrink the tumor for removal. Since the tumor was attached to Danielle’s heart, it was a very precarious operation indeed. In performing the surgery, they were able to remove the tumor except for a small portion still attached to her heart. The entire tumor was destroyed due to the radiation and chemotherapy, so the surgeons decided to leave the part attached to her heart intact. The surgery involved cutting a lot of nerves, and as a result, Danielle’s sweat glands on the left side of her body are not functional. Therefore, she cannot get overheated in any circumstance. Her left eye droops, and the surgeons do not know if she will be able to have children. But praise God, she is now twenty-four years old and cancer free!

(An afterword on this subject. As of July 2018 I discovered that Danielle will be having a baby in February 2019. God is awesome!)

A lot has been said about prayer warriors and prayer chains. But through your believing and holding on to your faith in prayer, God creates miracles.
