BEGINNINGS

I t was early in the morning and a young boy of about 15 was awakened by his annoying alarm clock, but to him this was routine and a small thing he had to live with. He resided in a large manor with his family that, without intent or knowledge, he was learning to love and accept.

He got ready for his day and went down to breakfast where a woman was sitting, waiting for him and her 2 daughters. This woman’s name is Laura, the mother of his best friend, Maria. Her family took him in when he was orphaned after a gang killed his whole family when he was just 10 years old.

Good morning Carter, she chirped. Laura was always so chipper in the morning and it never failed to make him smile. Good morning Laura he replied but not quite as chipper.

Carter poured himself a cup of coffee. How are the powers lately? Laura’s question made Carters mood change instantly. Unlike anyone else, Carter had powers that would be straight out of an adventure comic book series. He long ago decided they were his cross to bear. He had flight, super strength and enhanced reflexes. He wanted to use these powers to right the wrongs of the world and take revenge on those who orphaned him at such a young age, but he has not yet been able to track them down but knew that somehow, sometime, he would.

They…they’re fine…I can feel them growing inside me, but I have not had any trouble controlling them. Laura’s expression grew to one of concern. Though he was not related by blood, she thought of him as she would her own son if she would have had one. Carter, you know you can tell me anything, right? If you find yourself having trouble with your powers or anything unrelated to your powers…. if you just need to talk about anything, I am here for you. Carter assured her that he knew she was there for him but that he was fine.
