I grew up in the country on a family farm which I did chores on. We had a garden every year and grew some of our food, we canned and froze it for the winter besides eating it as we picked it and cooked it. I have lived on the Eatern shore of Maryland my whole life. I have worked for others my whole adult life at times having two jobs. I have worked in different kinds of jobs for each job. I love cats and have had at least one my whole life, when one died I would get another one. I like making things when I have time I do crafts plus I work outside. I also exercise most days of the week at a gym that I belong to. I like to stay active and busy. I do not like to sit aroud and do nothing. Even if I just sit and read, I am doing something and keeping my mind active.

    Mom Needs Help

    Kim

I was in the living room reading a book when I heard a loud crash from the kitchen. I bolted down the light gray carpeted hall.

Mom, I yelled as I ran.

I got to the doorway of the kitchen and stopped fast at what I saw. Mom was laying on the floor on her back, arms out to the side. There was broken glass on the floor.

Mom, Mom, I said feeling tears coming down my face. Settle down, I thought to myself, "Come on. I need to get help. Need to call 911. There’s the phone.

    911. Do you need an ambulance, fire or police? a female asked.

Ambulance for my Mom, I answered.

    Ok girl, what’s your name?

    Kim.

Ok Kim. I can get an ambulance for your mom. What is wrong with your Mom?

She fell off of a ladder and is not moving.

Ok, I’ll get an ambulance coming to you.

Thanks… I said and hung up because there was knocking on the door.

Who is it? I called out as I hurried to the front door.

It’s the police, a male voice said.

    I opened the door.

Hi little girl. Is your Mom here? the cop asked.

I’m not a little girl, I’m twelve years old. Follow me. You are not the ambulance but you got here fast, I said.

"I’m not here because of that but another reason. Why did you call for an ambulance?’
