About this ebook
As the ungluing takes place, you will feel out of balance, you will feel you are being stretched, and you will feel you are losing something. It’s natural to be afraid, but afraid of what? The old has to fall away for the new to emerge. Trust in what is already within you, and be willing to unglue the mind.

Note from Veronica Gabrielle La Barrie: This book is intended to convey a spiritual message using an unbiased style. You will notice some passages from the Bible. They are reported in a way that shows you that its message has often been misinterpreted. It can be instead framed within a larger, Universal perspective, which is: there is an Intelligence that wants to succeed in your life, for your highest and best good, but you need to realign with it, in order for that to happen. Specific references from the Bible are found in the text, soon after the cited passages.
Some passages in Ungluing the Mind are inspired by specific lines from A Course In Miracles. I became a student of A Course in Miracles thirty years ago. Its message resonated with me strong and clear, and I quickly started facilitating study groups on it. Today, my teachings and writings still reflect many of the major lessons that I have learned from that powerful book.

T o My Beloved Mother:
Neither happy nor sad, neither elated by praise nor discouraged by neglect, you had a secret, gentle, inner smile. You sought nothing; imitated no one. You did everything peacefully and quietly, absorbed in God and reflecting His continuous silence. You taught us always to listen to the wisdom of our soul and never to be deceived by the outer form. You taught us that silence is golden.
Thank you for the blessing that brought me into this physical manifestation.
Thank you for your wisdom, understanding, and intuitive awareness.
Thank you for being my constant companion.
Thank you for your love and the many gifts you gave. You were truly only Light and peace.
Thank you for doing everything you did kindly and effortlessly.
Thank you for your presence that breathed and radiated only love.
Thank you my Beloved Mother for the most precious gift of spiritual awareness.
Thank you for extending to me what I have extended to my children, Michael and Ashley, and all others you have sent into my life and continue to send.
May your strength, courage and perfect example continue to pilot me as I carry out my Earthly duties, so that I too may teach by example and bring others home who have wandered off and do not remember.
May I continue to do all that is before me to do with great enthusiasm, as you did. In you, I recognized at an early age what I was to become. You truly are and continue to be the Light of my world.
Love is the way. I walk in Gratitude.

Dedication
I dedicate this book to everyone in the world who has experienced deep physical or emotional suffering; to those who have lain awake at night in pain or anguish and wondered why they have been abandoned. You may be thirsting for the wisdom that is contained herein, and yet feel, when you begin reading, that the possibility of a consistently joyful, fulfilling existence is simply unrealizable. Perhaps your faith has dwindled to such an extent that you no longer hope for anything better than this nasty, brutish, and short
life. Or perhaps you do believe there is something else, a different form of consciousness and reality, but don’t believe it is in a state that is attainable for you.
Don’t give up. It is the lot of most humans to go through a Dark Night of the Soul before returning to the Light, and so you are not alone in what you’re experiencing. Pray, be determined, persist. You will make the breakthrough your soul is longing for, even if sometimes it appears to be a Utopian dream. Many other spiritually aware people have made this journey before you, and they can be your guides if you open yourself to them. You have to choose to open up; no one can compel you, so make that choice. Drop your ideas and opinions, and become as receptive as you can possibly be. Then a new kind of understanding will germinate within you, and you will begin your own journey of transformation.
During this often arduous journey, you will receive all the support you need. Look around you and notice the people and circumstances that are blessings in your life. Be grateful for them, and you will begin to see them in a new Light. These situations and individuals have not gathered around you randomly; they are part of a greater plan that is leading you back to the Light. When you are in pain or anguish, remember the blessings you have and this will remind you of the Light that sent them to you. However isolated you may sometimes feel you are never alone.
Ungluing the Mind is one of the many books that are here to help you. It was written to remind you of the true meaning of Life and of what you are here to do that you have forgotten. You are here to awaken from the sleep of forgetfulness and claim your Divine inheritance, in order for you to do mighty work and leave your mark upon the Earth.
The core message of this book is simple: Turn your attention on the inside, rather than the outside. Reconnect with your genuine identity and accept it for what it is: Love. Then practice the spiritual truth you learn. If you’ve learned for example, that no one can actually hurt you, go out into the world and live your life second to second as if that were true. Become an example for others to follow.
May this book uplift, inspire, and instruct you to make the breakthrough you have been yearning for.

About the Author
V eronica Gabrielle La Barrie was born on the island of Trinidad and Tobago, in the West Indies, the twelfth of seventeen children. She was nurtured from an early age by her mother’s great love and innate wisdom. Driven by the intense sorrow and sense of loss occasioned by her mother’s sudden passing, Veronica, at age 14, went deeply inward to seek to understand her True Nature and purpose in life. As a result of this, she began a process that made her discover a radically new approach to living, which freed her from all psychological and emotional stresses, unveiling a life of joy and peace.
Veronica Gabrielle’s awakening has been fostered by Hinduism and Buddhism philosophies as well as by the encounter with A Course in Miracles, which revealed to her the key for a deep spiritual metamorphosis, moving her to become a transformational coach.
Today, the teachings of Veronica Gabrielle are mostly inspired by A Course in Miracles, yet they extend beyond any specific doctrine, faith or religion. Their only aim is to help you rejoice with the universal truth: You are not your separated, fragmented, uncertain self; you are a powerful, unlimited being. Veronica Gabrielle’s teachings urge you to de-clutter the mind and reconnect with the Divine Source of all things. How do you do this? By letting go of your self-created, separate identity and by awakening to your True Nature, which is an expression of the Light and is one with everything.
Over the last thirty years, Veronica Gabrielle has guided hundreds of students in living a more joyful and gratifying life. And now it’s your turn. The fact that you’re reading this book means that you are ready to let go of everything that is limiting you and causing you to suffer. You are ready to make the shift into a new, immaculate state of consciousness. Your time has come and you need to take action now.
Unglue the Mind and be the Light of the World
1
Unglue The Mind
Let nothing upset you.
Let nothing frighten you.
Everything is changing.
God alone is changeless.
Patience attains the goal.
Who has God lacks nothing.
God alone fills every need.
Saint Teresa of Avila
I n fifteenth-century Thailand, there was a monastery that possessed a statue of the Buddha, which, being made of plaster was apparently of little value. One day, Lightning struck the stupa in which the Buddha was housed, and falling masonry chipped the statue. To their amazement, the monks saw that a piece of green crystal had been exposed. They quickly removed the rest of the plaster and, when they had finished, found themselves standing face to face with an incomparably beautiful jade Buddha. Thanks to the dancing rays of Light that were emanating from the shimmering stone, the holy man appeared to smile at them, as if to say, At last!
This analogy represents the process of knowing yourself as you truly are. You have made the mind that now tyrannizes you. In order to become aware of your True Nature and thus live the joyful life you were meant to live, you need to peel away your self-created thoughts and reveal the priceless, eternal Mind that lies behind them. This is what it means to unglue the mind.
The Power of Allowing
No one can force you to undergo this process. Indeed, you have been successfully resisting it for a long time. But the stakes are higher now. Intense spiritual energy is impinging on you, pushing up all that you have been suppressing. Allow this evolutionary process to work within you, and the result will be nothing less than a miracle.
‘Allowing’ is the key, for the process is a natural one and it goes into effect the instant you give your permission. You don’t have to do anything at all except welcome the transformation.
If it’s so easy, then why do I find it so hard to change?
Because you haven’t yet made an honest appraisal of your present life and realized the degree of unnecessary suffering that you tolerate and, indeed, consider normal. One of the purposes of this book is to help you do that. Of course, this will make you feel uncomfortable, because you’ve built a nest for yourself in the plaster mind and you’re not going to give it up without experiencing fear. After all, fear is a construct of the small mind and fear is what you’ll encounter when you begin to examine yourself honestly.
The Real and the Unreal
But when I review my life, it really doesn’t seem as bad as you’re implying. I’m fortunate to live in a relatively safe and prosperous country. I have a loving family, a fulfilling job, and I experience moments of great joy. Isn’t that enough? Why ask for more?
It may be true that, compared with others, you are fortunate. But you are just looking at the tip of the iceberg. Beneath the threshold of consciousness, you are not at peace. And the reason why is that you have lost your connection with what’s real; you have separated from the Source of Being, which is the Light. You live in an unreal world of ever changing phenomena, in which possessions and people come and go. You can never be sure of anything or anyone, and, in the end, everything decays or dies. Since this occurs on a relatively slow timescale, you can forget about it. But deep down you never really do forget. A part of you knows that what you’re experiencing isn’t real, and this puts you into a continuous state of fear.
What is real, then?
When you re-connect with the Light—the divine principle that powers the universe—you become the unending peace, love, certainty, and joy that you’ve been yearning for. These are aspects of Spirit, and there is nothing you have to do to acquire them, except let go of the ‘plaster you’ and allow the ‘authentic you’, your true nature, to shine through. Your true nature already has all those attributes.
Isn’t it unnatural to be continually happy? After all, bad things do happen and it would be callous to act as if nothing mattered.
No, what’s unnatural is to be anxious and miserable. Your true nature is joy itself. It is not joyful periodically—on those occasions when everything you planned and hoped for comes to fruition—but all the time. When you dissolve the self-created mind and unglue the mind, which is the universal Mind, then you experience a deep, abiding joy that never leaves you. The truth about human suffering is that however the pain may appear, the source of the suffering is an illusion.
To understand this better, imagine that you live in a world in which there is unending joy and fulfillment, a world in which there is no suffering of any kind. Now imagine yourself lying down on your bed, falling asleep, and starting to dream. You dream of a world in which there is loss and gain, love and hatred, elation and sorrow, and birth and death. Your dreams become so vivid that you forget the waking world and begin to experience your dream world as the only reality. Unfortunately, unlike when you sleep in the physical world, you don’t spontaneously wake up after eight hours. Instead, you continue dreaming for as long as you believe that your dreams are real—tens, hundreds,
