About this ebook

Family, Faith and Freedom is the writings of established author Kerry Susan Drake. She sets forth prose and poetry about the ideals we live for, our family, our faith, and our freedom.

The family is still our most important model for civilization, and in the modern world, it is under threat. Faith is still a part of meeting the needs of civilized groups. Freedom can only be achieved if there are healthy motivations in civilization.

The strength and power of the word still solidifies the grounding we all need. It is in the family, in the faith, and in the freedom of the word that life flourishes; for we then grow and sense our purpose.

    KATEA HAS NO HOME

A true story with fictional names used.

Katea was smoking and in doubt she was going to have any money to get her a meal for lunch that day. Katea was doubting any work since she was too ill to keep her job and had been sacked when she could not keep to a routine. No mother, no father and sitting crouched on the corner of the station, her mind was so sad and then a woman who walked by caught her plea. Do you have any spare change?

Mrs Pearl stopped looked down and thought what is such a pretty girl asking for money. Mrs Pearl had just shared her last $60 with a disabled man who hangs around the streets in Brighton cafes and gets handouts from her church.

Katea was gazing up at her with distress in her look. Mrs Pearl asked, I am concerned you are smoking. Katea threw the cigarette down and said, it was given to me by a passer by. Mrs Pearl noticed in her bag a large packet of cigraettes. It was gloomy but Mrs Pearl said, do you have a family?, do you have a father? Katea said, No my mother died last year and my dad is unemployed.Mrs Pearl responded, I understand; there is no work for the disabled and no work for anyone."
