Mrs. Rogers lived with her husband in a little green house on Sweet Street. She made beautiful and delicious wedding cakes. People from all over the world came to buy her cakes. Mrs. Rogers’ cakes were made special for each bride. They were baked in all different flavors and sizes.
Photographs of all the cakes she had made throughout the years were kept in books on shelves in her living room. Coffee, tea and samples of cake were served to guests by appointment only. Mrs. Rogers wanted to make doubly sure her customers were completely satisfied with the flavor of their cake before she formally placed their order. Sometimes, it would take more than one appointment for the bride to decide exactly what flavor of cake she wanted. Sometimes, even the groom got involved.
One fine Spring day, a young princess came to Mrs. Rogers to decide upon a flavor for her wedding cake. She was to marry a prince in the South of France in late July. The telephone rang. Mrs. Rogers stepped out of the room for a few moments to answer the call. She left the princess alone to sit and look at some photographs of wedding cakes. The princess quickly and quietly rose from her chair, and, sprinkled some magic dust all over Mrs. Rogers’ kitchen! Everything in this kitchen from now on would come to life! Before Mrs. Rogers returned to her living room, the princess quickly sat down in her chair. They both talked about the details of the wedding cake, and the flavor was picked.
Mrs. Rogers had several cakes to bake, but in her kitchen, everything would change. Only she didn’t know that. Mrs. Rogers put on her apron and looked around to see that she had everything she needed. All of a sudden, a cookbook jumped off the shelf and onto the countertop! It turned to the page with the correct recipe for the first cake.
Shocked and surprised, she just stood there, wondering what had just happened! Oh my!
she said to herself. Surely she was not seeing things! She put on her glasses for a moment and peered through
