The making of Magdalena’s kitchen

For Byron Bay-basedMagdalena Roze and her partner, Darren Robertson, the kitchen is quite literally central to their lives. “We use our kitchen intensively all day long,” says Magdalena, ticking off family cooking for the couple’s two sons, Archie, seven, and Charlie, five; entertaining friends around the table the couple designed in collaboration with Lounge Lovers; and recipe testing for Oomite, the all-natural umami spread she created with Katie Graham. So, when it came time to renovate their 1980s brick home to improve the functionality for their family and bring in more light, air and character, the pair decided to start with the kitchen and dining area, then take a break to enjoy it before continuing. We asked Magdalena to give us the lowdown on her reno design decisions.
