About this ebook
Howard Omstead
Howard Omstead is a father 5. His passions are many, but primarily bringing people closer to Christ. As a young child his parents divorced and then remarried. Growing up in a broken home with his siblings, church was still a very large part of his childhood. His beliefs were often very different then those around him. While he maintains his core christian beliefs, he knows the bible has many interpretations. As an adult he felt the need to create a system of preaching that would draw in teenagers and young adults. A form that they could relate to. He has a desire to break the stereotype that you have to live a certain way to be a true christian. He hopes that the people who read this book will understand that god accepts us as we are. That we are loved, not In spite of our sins, but because of our sins.

is without question that the Bible is the most widely distributed, best-selling book in the world. With over 3.9 billion copies sold in just the last 50 years alone, it is undoubtedly discussed, debated, and studied every day. So, what differentiates my take on it from anyone else’s? That’s the exact beauty: The Bible can be interpreted and applied to our lives in countless ways with much of its impact on us based on our personal experiences. For me, the Bible has always been there. And I mean that in many ways, as you will see.
From a young age, even as young as eight years old, the church has always had a strong presence in my life. As a child I was forced to go to church, whether it be sitting through services where I was preached to, attending classes at bible school, or spending days at church camp. Every service and every event — there we were! I was pushed so far into religion by my family that I eventually became rebellious and started to act out. Thinking of all the trouble a mischievous adolescent can get into, if you can imagine it, I probably did it: stunts that including everything from pouring Kool Aid powder into the baptismal to add a surprisingly colorful touch for all to see, to putting bubble gum between the pages of bibles. My friends and I seemed to have imaginations that knew no bounds when it came to stirring things up.
I should add here at that I was baptized in the Church of Christ and we were taught to never praise the Lord with musical instruments, as other churches do. If the Lord wanted praise through music he would have made a world of instruments just to praise him, was the belief. Other churches justified their music by saying that the Lord says to praise Him with all your might.
Well, hearing this, I just wanted to justify it myself and record me and musical instruments on a CD, so I could play it 24/7 and praise the Lord even when I was sleeping. This was, as you’ll see, one of my more benign acts of rebellion, but rebellion just the same.
To what extent do you suppose a child will go to showcase their defiance? One of our more daring exploits involved sneaking out of church service to turn the breaker switch off for the lights in the sanctuary. Once it was dark — so dark you really couldn’t see anything — we snuck back in and ran down the aisles with spray cans, covering everyone with shaving cream gel. And that was just one of our hijinks.
And while other kids may have enjoyed lazy summers on family vacations, my time off from school was spent at church camp. Going away to summer camp is something many kids look forward to each year, I’m sure, but that wasn’t me. As you can imagine, it wasn’t exactly an ideal time for me to have to spend so many hours sitting to study the Bible. In what was mostly an attempt to just keep things interesting, while services were going on, my friends and I would sneak out and slip away to the cabins. With approximately twenty cabins containing ten sets of bunks each, we would go from hut to hut, overturning mattresses and emptying suitcases—creating chaos for fun, and because we could.
And as if this ransacking wasn’t enough, we’d often take our shenanigans a step further, and do things like taking clothes from the boys’ lodges and exchanging
