    Foreword

Today many years have passed since the beginning of this crisis of disease and acrimony. This book is not meant to be controversial. Brian, my youngest son, died of AIDS in 1992. I am sharing my family’s journey of love in hopes that it will help others.

The purpose of this book is to enlighten people, to experience fully the great capacity of loving hearts, and to know that all of life’s lessons are to lead us to that purpose. Life is a process, not a result. This is a book directed at all families in our society; as all people either have been or will be affected by AIDS sometime in their lives. We will all need more loving hearts, more tolerance, more compassion - and less judgment.

At 10, I began helping in my father’s store, which gave me a feeling for business. At 15, I began managing an office while attending school for accounting. While finalizing my degree at the Detroit Business Institute, I met Brian’s father, Albert. Albert was born in 1923, in Detroit also, the eldest of two sons. His parents traveled a lot, leaving him home with housekeepers, so we both understood
