A Woman of Few Words: A Collection of Poetry
()
About this ebook
Although I knew her all my life, it was through her poems and her passion for them that I came to appreciate my mimis artistry. To me, she had always been a woman of few words. To my great misfortune, just when I started to get to know the woman behind the words, did she begin to lose them. Because of her dementia, the pathway to connecting with her became rocky. Obstructed by confusion, fear, and uncertainty, she slowly faded from us. After her death, we found the full records of her poetry, some of which we now lovingly share with the world. We hope you enjoy these few words that continue to help us get to know the poet we called grandmother, mom, and mimi.
Patricia Sikorski Berardelli
My Mother liked to express herself in rhymes. In memory of her joy of verse, my daughter and I have put together a short collection of her poems. We hope you will remember her with much love and kindness whenever you read these poems. Mother was an avid reader, a crossword puzzle devotee, and a lover of words. She thought little of her poetic talent because it came so easily to her, but also because she completed her education only through the eighth grade. Born on September 4, 1919, she was the third child in a family of seven children who lost their father in 1931. At that time, with the youngest child being three years old, Mother went out to work to help support the family.
