The Silent Song

The Silent Song displays a collection of poems where the author is showing another step, another level in his quest toward reaching spiritual growth and maturity. In that sense, it can be considered as a complement to what has started in the authors previously published poetry book, Gemstone. The author uses his skills in poetry to depict a rich spiritual life where despite the tests and trials of life, one can keep his composure, tame his spirit and maintain an inner peace. Ones life always speaks louder than just his words. A silent preacher living a righteous and holy life can say more by his actions than an eloquent one that relies mainly on his words to influence people around him. Someone once said, Id rather see a sermon than hear one.

In this regard, may The Silent Song be an inspiration to you all.

Joel Hilaire M.D.

Born in Port-au-Prince, on the beautiful and historic island of Haiti, Joel Hilaire studied at some of the best schools in his country namely Notre Dame du Sacr-Coeur (Elementary school), Juvnat Collge and Centre dEtudes Secondaires (High School). He was greatly influenced by the erudition of Dr. Pradel Pompilus, one of his teachers considered along with Father Raphael Berrou as the fathers of the Haitian literature. He pursued higher learning in the medical sciences and in August 1986, he graduated from the School of Medicine and Pharmacy. Dr. Hilaire specialized in Internal medicine before migrating to the United States. For over two decades, he had labored in different areas in the medical field while maintaining an active spiritual life as a student minister in his church. In November 30, 2007 he was ordained as the pastor of Orlando Gospel Assembly. He is in his 29th year of marriage to his beloved wife, Claire.

One can say so much when in reality nothing was said. We have been told that a portrait can transpire a thousand words. In these same thought processes, I can say that The Silent Song goes far beyond the melodies of music in tone, messages, and emotions. It is a gallery of different portraits in verse, by one painter (the poet), who has skillfully learned to blend different hues of color.

This collection of poems takes one on a spiritual journey that expresses love in its finest form. It also provides the reality of responsibility for one who has been selected to lead a church. This is done in an enlightening manner with teachings. Who would think that you could learn about biblical characters, their attributes, and even family history, by reading poems? Yet, this is
