ABOUT EARTH
The Late Future
NEW MITILITARY RANK: Officer, Corporal, Lieutenant, Captain and General. The rank had changed because of the low population.
The year is now May 2027, Earth is a dying planet and the population is now about 233 million. Another thing about Earth, is that it’s mostly one big dry desert and barren waste land. All animal wild life, has been wiped out as well only the human life exists. There is little greenery around the area; mostly patches of grass, Trees, and murky swamps are found around the mountain ranges. This was where ponds, lakes, and rivers used to be. All of this is now a chemical waste dump, filled with deadly liquid toxins and poisonous fumes. These areas are so bad, it can almost kill a person in a few hours. All of this, is protected by the government to not allow anyone to go near this dump site. Only authorized personnel, can throw out any unwanted poisonous liquids at the chemical dump site. There’s also a lot of dry dessert areas where the oceans used to be, this is now a land filled dump site. This is mostly scrap metal and anything else that is laying around going to waste. However; this isn’t so bad, the militarily learned to use scraps for artillery, replacement parts for their trucks, and anything else that may come in handy.

CHAPTER 1
Project: Space Pods
The year is May 8, 2027. A man named Dr. Paul Scokestead, was working in a science lab somewhere in the Sahara Desert. He had had a well equip cave, the whole inside was made out of steal. Everything in side the cave was mainly; computer programming labs and any thing else dealing with a computer science. There was also a chemistry lab as well. That’s sort of a joke to many, only because it’s Dr. Scokestead’s private lab and it’s called his play room, some call it Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde lab, one of his colleagues, even did a remarkable job imitating the mad scientist’s assistance, Igor from the old time Frankenstein movies. His voice character wasn’t bad either. At any given time, this particular colleague, sees him heading to his lab. He does his Igor impression. Dr. Scokestead, never gets tired of him. It seems like this colleague, can stay in character and he gets better at it each time.
Dr. Scokestead, had over 180 colleagues, who were helping him build the greatest thing on Earth….‘Space Pods.’ He has a very close friend from St. Petersburg Russia, Ivan Markov who was the head designer and builder of the space pod, a space craft that can carry at least five people at a time. Dr. Scokestead, was the head science department, he was doing all the computerized and the electrical work to get the space craft to lift off. Dr. Scokestead, who is an night owl, was up most of the night drawing out the blue prints getting ideas on where and how the space pod was going to be built and how it was going to function. He also wanted to leave a legacy behind, so if anyone who was able to find a space pod would know who the inventor was. He even made multiple copies of hand written letters and blue prints to leave inside the space craft. This was left for anyone who knew anything about how to read them and would be able to know how to launch the space craft. The other thought in mind, was how was he going to build these space craft through out parts of the world and how would he be able to try to build them, where they can’t be too easily found where he could get into trouble. It was then Dr. Scokestead hired a lot of scientist and engineers to learn how to build the space pods. The thing is with the space pods, He was working on his invention illegally, he now pretty much has the military intelligence and military FBI agents on his tail. They are trying to catch capture Dr. Scokestead and bringing him in for questioning. Dr. Scokestead, at this point; is being accused of making armed and dangerous missiles.
Dr. Scokestead then had yet, another idea he went to his lab and looked at all of the sample metals he had. He came up with a brilliant idea, he took a small glass test tube that was about eight inches long and he carefully cut the tube in three sections. He pounded out a small amount of aluminum and attached it to each cut section. He then made a small device to operate small two in round battery, he made a small barrier to protect the battery, then he added water to one section, he made it about ¾ of the way full, then he added liquid nitrate in the second section and then the last section of the tube, he poured liquid mercury in the last section. He very carefully, welded all of this together and at the top of the test tube he build a very small light like a pin light, that would change colors, for different function.
He made it where the light would turn; blue, orange, and green. The blue light would detect titanium, the orange, would detect any poison liquids, and the green would detect if anything is non poison.
Dr. Scokestead, called this invention ‘Mercury strobe.’ It took him two days to perfect it. This was also very dangerous to carry around, for this so happened to be an exploding device. He just came up with an idea mainly because he needed a way to help anyone to find his space pods and be able to leave Earth, at the same time the military can defend themselves against a rival. That’s why he created a mercury strobe. This was the other illegal experiment he was working on. Now, that his mercury strobe invention is complete and he now can spend two hours making them. He sent out some of his colleagues dressed in military uniforms and sold them to the military. This got the military off of Dr. Scokestead’s back for while, now that military was seeing that Dr. Scokestead, was making a useful devices and not building any space craft like the government thought he was doing. He is now back making money to continue his space pod experiments. The trick is now, to find a way to sell the mercury strobe idea and to through off the the military FBI agents to prevent them from finding the space pods. This is the distraction Dr. Scokestead needed so he could continue his work with out being disturbed. That in it’s self, didn’t work out very well. The FBI agents, were still on Dr. Scokestead’s case.
You see Dr. Scokestead, is a very wealthy man. He spend most of what he had to buy titanium from science labs and anyone who knew how to build the space craft. Eventually Dr. Scokestead, himself learned how to build the outer part of the spacecraft. He was only in his early twenties, when he learned to build his own computers as well as learning to build spacecrafts. He’s now in his forties, building his space pods. He got the be such a good expert, he can build his space pods blind folded, if he wanted.
Dr. Scokestead, is now in his office looking over the blue prints and finalizing the details of the space pod. Dr. Markov, was there in Dr. Scokestead’s office, Dr. Markov had just finished building the exterior design of the space pod and the aeroshell that helps decelerate and protects the spacecraft from pressure, heat, and possible, debris. Now it would be up to Dr. Scokestead, to to start building the computers and the rest of the interior that would be needed to fly into space. He had a rather large black box, the size was 12x20x12x20 rectangle. That was was 6’’ wide, it wasn’t very heavy.
This is a beacon, that will be placed in every space pod, if it works then all the space pods lifted into space would be able to follow one another, no matter how far you are.
May I remind you, Dr. This is the second space pod we’re building. Supplies are scarce and we are doing this illegally. You do know, what will happen if we are discovered.
Dr. Markov said, who wasn’t liking the idea too much of not only building the space pods, but having a beacon that can detect anyone, from any where if the beacon was activated. After all; we’re still in my country and any broken laws would be taken seriously.
"Yes, Dr. Markov, I am very well of this. I’m also well aware that the government is failing the people and we have on our hands a beginning of a rebellion. Food and land is being taken away from us, the civilians are fighting for the rights of food and property that the government feels that they should have.
If we leave before this happens, we can build more space crafts and send more people out into space and find a hope of a new life, if there is any."
It was then a holograph image came into view, on the side of Dr. Scokestead’s office. Dr. Scokestead, this is Dr. Justine Chamerce in Anchorage Alaska, I needed to inform you, that building the first space pod is complete, will you be traveling down in that direction to test out the space pod?
Yes, Dr. Chamerce, I will be planning be in the area next month to test. I have a space pod here that just got got the aeroshell completed. I just need the full month to complete the interior the team will need my assistance. I plan to have the second space shuttle to launch some time in July.
Thank you Dr. Scokestead, I will be looking forward to your visit……..Dr. Justine Chamerce out.
Then the holograph image went away.
Dr. Scokestead, this will take at least two months, if not more to complete this space pod.
Dr. Markov said, who was getting worried.
Dr. Scokestead, you do know my health isn’t the best. I’m nearing seventy and well I had some heart problems these few months. There isn’t much I can do, if we can get one space pod off the ground we can start to build more.
Dr. Markov said, folding his arms. I hope I will live long enough to see one one of these beauties take off.
I’m sure you will, I will see to it. It’s getting late it’s best we get some sleep.
Dr. Scokestead said, as he and Dr. Markov left the office to go to another another area where there were sleeping quarters.
* * *
A whole month went by and the second space pod was complete. Dr. Scokestead, took a long train ride outside of the Russia and to the Alaskan Canada boarder. Before he made a stop to meet with with Dr. Justine Chamerce. he arrived in Kenai Alaska, at a new military base that was recently built. He arrived two days before he was to meet with Dr. Chamerce in Anchorage. He was going to sell his mercury strobe to the military not only as a device as a bomb but also as a device to find the space pods. He never mentioned that he had all ready hidden two of his space pods. He thought it would be worth more to the military to build a bomb to protect them. He never mentioned anything about it finding his space pods, that would be a dead give away. He sold about thirty of them them to the military for about $ 800.00 dollars a piece. Dr. Scokestead, learned he had a new talent, he was quiet a sales person.
On June 10, around 4:30 PM. Dr. Scokestead, just got off the plane at the military airbase in Anchorage. He saw Dr. Chamerce standing out side a huge building, he was a good few feet away from her, it took a few minutes to get to her. When he did approach her, he was well greeted. Hello Dr. Scokestead.
Dr. Chamerce said, when they traded handshakes and Dr. Scokestead greeted her back.
Dr. Chamerce, wasn’t the most attractive woman in the world she was tall somewhat heavy set, she had a rather round face, with a big nose, and dark brown hair. She was very bright and also very respectful. On that account, she made herself popular among her colleagues. I tested out the beacon the best that I could, to see if it would be able to handle being in space……If it can. We can use these two space pods to send them off to space. Now, with us being almost in the middle of June, I suspect we can launch the space craft in maybe at the end of July. The government, here in Alaska is suspecting that there are some illegal studies going on. One of our unnamed colleagues, wasn’t be very careful. He was sent out side of our space lab with the beacon. Later on when he turned on the beacon to test it, the beacon signaled and transmitted it too close to the military base, at Kenai military base. We all know, that Kenai military base, just opened up a few months ago. There was no way I was able to continue the investigation or try to find, where this person is…….I should say….. John Doe’s location. Sadly, I had to destroy the beacon on my end, just so no one would be able to find us.
Dr. Chamerce paused.
Is there any colleagues, around that may have spotted this John Doe, that can be of help to us? We can’t let that beacon be found for it can be traced to us. Weather or not, the one beacon is destroyed or not.
That’s The worst part about the beacon, when John Doe and this beacon got sent out away from the premise. Neither one was ever found the beacon I know of. I suspect now that John Doe is, a traitor to us and that he’s a government spy. John doe, may have turned in the beacon to the military. This is my first theory; this cave, that is out in the middle of nowhere can be almost spotted with ease.
"That’s most interesting Dr. I was
