Description

Chaos is that beautiful concept that anyone who understands physics believes that the universe exists. If you remember, I hosted Kate before on Slo Mo,  which was a wonderful conversation in which she mentioned she'd been collaborating with a Nobel Prize winning physicist in analyzing chaos from an art and science point of view to reach the conclusion that we're all connected. I almost fainted - I love physics, I love chaos, and I couldn't be more convinced that we're all connected. I had to speak to them. This is Part 1.Kate Daudy is a visual artist and writer based in London and is recognized for her work exploring and re-evaluating the human experience in the context of the natural world. Known for her written interventions in public and private spaces, Kate's work is based on an ancient Chinese literati practice. Sir Kostya Novoselov is a physicist best known for his groundbreaking experiments on graphene, the strongest and thinnest material in existence. The material consists of a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice. The achievement earned Professors Andre Geim and Kostya Novoselov the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2010.In Part 1, listen as we discuss:How Kostya won the Nobel Prize by experimenting with scotch tape and graphite. How Kate and Kostya met through a mutual interest in chaos and our origins. When you deviate from the standard path, you have creativity. If you destroy chaos, do you get more chaos or order? The incredible experiments being done at CERN.We are chaos inside, and our job is to control it.My next book, Scary Smart,  releasing September 16.Instagram: @mo_gawdatFacebook: @mo.gawdat.officialTwitter: @mgawdatLinkedIn: /in/mogawdatWebsite: mogawdat.com/podcastConnect with Kate Daudy and Kostya Novoselov at katedaudy.com and acast.com.
