About this ebook

God reveals Himself in marvelous ways in the midst of a journey through affliction. In the fire of affliction, there is grace for the process. Out of the fire comes a redeemed hope. Out of the fire comes renewed strength. Out of the fire comes greater glory. Out of the fire comes one of the greatest miraclesthe miracle of a life being transformed into the likeness of Christ.

In Broken-Wing: An Expose on the Journey through Affliction, Phyllis A. Clemons shares the challenges and the God-given revelations of her personal journey through physical affliction.

A raging fire arose. The timeline and the outcome were unknown. God, however, stood in the midst of it. He touched, He comforted, He spoke, and He transformed.

    DEDICATION

This book is dedicated to my husband,

    Randall James Clemons

I am blessed by your unconditional love.

Thank you for your patience, gentleness, and faithfulness.

Thank you for walking with me through every storm.

Thank you for being my companion on this journey.

    PREFACE

Life is a journey and we are all travelers. The course of everyone’s journey differs in content and length, but the destination is the same—transformation into the image of God’s beloved Son, Jesus the Messiah. To reach that destination God invites us to join Him in relationship where He imparts truth, wisdom and revelation for a greater understanding of His characteristics.

The journey is full of the unknown. We experience exhilaration and upheaval, warfare and times of rest, but through it all God remains the same.

The first time God whispered the words broken-wing to me it was for the purpose of taking and writing about the journey from spiritual brokenness to spiritual maturity. This time, though I am still on the journey, those same words take on a slightly different meaning. This time broken-wing represents my journey through physical affliction.

This is an expose´ of my journey. On the pages that follow I have captured some of the most important truths and revelations that God blessed me with while traveling through one of the most difficult seasons of my life.

With Him I’ve learned to stand even though I did not experience an instantaneous miracle. I have embraced the power of process. I have been awestruck by His grace. I have learned the beauty of living my life at a pace that was once foreign. I have captured the very essence of the disciplines of prayer and worship. In my weakness I discovered the true meaning of mounting up on eagle’s wings. And I understand the relevance of the glory of God being revealed through my life.

Perhaps your journey through affliction has just begun or maybe you have been traveling this road for a very long time. In either case, living with a broken-wing is not easy or pleasant, but it has many opportunities. As you travel it is my prayer that you will allow God to meet you at every point. May you be comforted by His peace and filled with His joy. May your heart be touched by His unfailing love.

    INTRODUCTION

Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. (Psalm 139: 16, NIV)

Mankind’s days are often referred to as a life-span. It is the number of years of our earthly existence. Throughout
