    FOREWORD

Carolyn Pells shines light on the logic of immortality. She relates to theology, religion and mythology. Psychology, philosophy, art, and history are also discussed as science validates and brings logic to the forefront of her understanding. The Immortal Soul is a testament to her near-death experience and explains how the love, the force, and the power of the All Mighty imbues everyone and everything.

    Garry Kiker MS, LPC

Carolyn Pells had a near-death experience (NDE) in 1968. To understand the event and explain the experience, Carolyn has read, researched, and studied the topic for the past fifty years. This book, fifty years in the writing, is a synthesis or compilation that provides a description that is grounded in both science and religion.

    PREFACE

I am not a writer, theologian, mythologist, or scientist. I am a witness—a witness compelled to share my near-death experience (NDE) as accurately and truthfully as I can. This is a difficult task, as it is almost impossible to communicate the exact essence of an NDE. In addition, my NDE is sacred to me and difficult to share with an audience.

I began a quest for words to share my incredible experience. At first, I did not realize that I was searching, but as the years went by, I recognized my pursuit. I found many people who testified to similar experiences. Many disciplines contributed to my search in addition to science, religion and art. It is this search for understanding that has become The Immortal Soul.

Intentionally, I refer to a wide variety of quotations, selections, and sources. Some may accuse me of cherry-picking, as there are many ideas to the contrary. However, these are the references that enable me to interpret my experiences. I undertook the writing of this book with profound respect for all disciplines and faiths. I refer mainly to Christianity, as I am most familiar with it. The different names that I use to refer to God—our Maker, the Force, the All-Knowing, and such—are meant to show the diversity of a universal recognition of a Higher Power.

Words and paintings cannot totally express my NDE or show how it has manifested itself in my life, but they are all I have to offer. My NDE has given me a very close relationship with my God. It has taught me that all life is connected; we are never separated from His love, our loved ones, or the process of our existence. Hopefully, The Immortal Soul will be read alongside similar accounts, eventually bringing human beings closer to the understanding of their immortality.

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Writing The Immortal Soul was challenging. Explaining my near-death experience (NDE) was difficult, as no adequate words truly exist. However, after many years of research, I gathered up my courage and recruited my family and friends and professionals to help me record my encounter.
