About this ebook

Beatriz, Akacia, CeCe, Shadow, Kendra, Savannah, Misseyordinary names given to not so ordinary people.

I mean, theyve got certain abilities normal humans wouldnt have and they live (quite) ordinary lives in their warehouse somewhere in San Francisco. That is until one of them very foolishly gets arrested by this police officer called Mayvis. I swearall hell breaks loose after that. The other girls have to rescue her, the government chases them out of their home, and then they get put into some school not in the west side. But that part of the story is quite entertaining, I have to admit. During their time there, they meet the most unusual characters you will probably ever have the pleasure of reading about. Then after that, they meet a few more people, including a familiar face to one of the girls, who is going to help them take down the evilness sent to find something that could possibly wreck this dimension and the next.

    VIOLENT VIEW

    Here I was.

Sat on a hard metal chair, my face planted on a wooden table, arms dangling down either side of me in an interrogation room. I didn’t think I’d ever be this stupid. What the hell is wrong with me? How did I even get here and the others went home free? You know what, I’ll take the blame for this. I’m the oldest out of them so I should take the blame for it. But on the other hand, of all the people there, that idiot took me. This is all my fault. Actually, no, this is all Shadow’s fault. What the hell is wrong with that girl? O que diabos está errado comigo?

Good afternoon, Miss Rojanos. Are you ready to talk? A random woman came in addressing me.

I thought I recognized the voice; it was the voice of the woman (idiot) who arrested me.

Miss Rojanos? she beckoned, Are you ready?

Sure, I said, lifting my head to her.

She actually looked a lot younger than when I first saw her. Her hair was hanging loosely off her shoulder unlike when she threw me to the ground, she had a tight bun. I also thought she might have been mixed race but because of the dim lights I couldn’t be sure. She looked more Hispanic or Latin American. She had no make up (the one thing I will respect her for) and still appeared to have a clear face. That’s how I could see her bottle green eyes so clearly, looking intently on me like she was some lie detector ready to pry out all my secrets.

Good she started, We do have a lot to talk about don’t we?

She walked over to the chair opposite me and sat down. Then she took out a tape recorder from her pocket and placed it directly in front of me. I glanced at her because I knew if I said anything out of line, she’d put me in prison. I saw her give me a reassuring look (as if she actually cared for my well being) and began to speak.

Mayvis Caños interviewing Beatriz Rojanos at 4:50 pm. So.. she shifted her eyes to me, how did all of this begin?

You mean how I robbed an appliance store? I replied bluntly.

Mm hmm, yes. How you robbed an appliance store, Beatriz.

Well. I walked into an appliance store, you see, and then I decided to take an item of the shelf and then just walked out without paying.

Ha ha ha. You actually think you’re funny. Miss Rojanos, this is no time for jokes. What did you steal? Her voice turning sterner.

At the time, I thought, this woman’s not being serious. Not at all but somehow, keeping my mouth shut did not seem like a good option.

I stole batteries. I said plainly.

What kind of batteries? she asked.

When I came in here, you searched the hell out of me, so shouldn’t you already know what kind of batteries I stole? I asked, with my eyebrow raised in a challenging manner.

Miss Rojanos, I highly doubt you’re in a position to-.

The lights suddenly flickered on and off a few eerily times before returning to normal about a minute later.

As I was saying, you really are in no position to be protesting. You are being interrogated by a police officer and how old are you?

I looked up to her and sighed lightly, secretly cursing in my mind.

    Fifteen.

You see? So please, let us continue with no attitude. What kind of batteries were they?

I would have kept silent but I really just wanted to get out of there as soon as humanly possible. I sighed heavily this time.

I don’t know the name for them. A1 or AA, I think.

Mayvis scribbled something in a notebook she got out of another pocket and asked me why without lifting her head from it.

    Because I’m building something.

She paused and looked straight to me.

    You’re building something, Beatriz?

    Yes I am.

She didn’t take her eyes off me when she dropped her pen on the table and sat upright with a cunning look in her eyes.

What are- what are you building?

She was stammering. That meant she was coming on to something. Slowly but surely. I quickly looked at her. Her entire face was concentrated on me; eyes ears, nose, everything.

Nothing important, I said as I watched her face drop slightly. I secretly smirked to myself.

Nothing important, huh? she asked, her eyes burning into me, Where do you live, Beatriz? came an unexpected question.

None of your business avenue, Miss Caños, I answered sharply, putting an exquisite yet possibly insulting accent on her name.

I think I know where you live, Miss Rojanos.

Suddenly without warning, the lights flickered again before turning straight off. Then, I heard a huge booming sound straight after and a strong tug at my arm to follow up.

Beatriz, it’s Shadow. I’m sorry I got you in this mess. Don’t let go of me.

I was confused. CeCe was always the one to save one of us and especially after what Shadow did, why would they let her come to the rescue? She’s the one who put me there, but then again, I didn’t want to stay there.

Out of pure stubbornness, I would have sat down and refused but I was getting sick of being here and I knew this police officer was coming on to something. I let Shadow take my arm before she bolted the door a second time and ran through the darkness.

She let go of me when we reached the second hallway and told me to keep running. My eyes adjusted to the dark and I saw Shadow halfway across the hallway. I had to run quite quickly to catch up with her until I realized she stopped.

    Dead end, she said.

I immediately turned my head in all directions to try and find another pathway. There was nothing. Then I could hear faint voices shouting followed by dogs barking. They got louder at the second.

We need to get out of here before they get both of us. I said.

Shadow stood still for a minute, just watching the police officers and their wild hounds start to close us in.

Shadow. Any time now would be good, I said, starting to back away to the wall.

Now, I could see and hear the officers’ shoes one by one, second after second, hitting the ground with force, trying to chase us back to the walls that were this prison. It wasn’t until they were about two meters away from us when Shadow suddenly grabbed my arm and transported us outside of the building. Through the lighting inside, we could see nearly all the police officers I saw when I came in here in handcuffs, running in different directions in quite an organised manner, trying to find us.

    You alright? she asked me.

Where the hell are the rest of them? I asked as it suddenly dawned on me that they weren’t with us.

Wait, I think Cecelia said they should be here right now but I don’t know where they are.

Just then, while we believed we actually got out home free, four police officers, all with screaming dogs about them and furious faces, pointed guns at us, forcing us to turn around to face the harshly bright lighting of the flashlight one of them was holding in their hands.

Freeze! Put your hands on your heads where I can see them, one police officer with a hell of a pot belly bellowed out.

And why should we? Shadow implored.

Put your hands on heads where I can see them! he repeated while Shadow and I remained stationary.

The police officer retrieved a second gun, as if the first along with the three the other police officers were holding weren’t enough, from under his belt and pointed it at us.

I won’t say it again. Put your hands behind your heads where I can see them.

Then, out of nowhere, behind the police officers, a helicopter came flying dangerously towards us. On of its windows opened slightly and a red AK47 came out, pointing at the police officers before it started shooting surprisingly very accurately at them. Shadow and I ducked down to the ground; the police officers all ran away to the bushes beside the building, letting the dogs stray free and also began shooting back to the helicopter. From that window, I saw a dark skinned hand appear and wave at us.

    It’s Akacia! Shadow told me.

A rescue ladder came tumbling down as the hand beckoned us to come on. The wind from its wings was making it hard to stand properly or to even breathe properly as we got closer to it. Shadow jumped onto the ladder first and climbed a few steps to give me some room as I too jumped onto it.

    Haul us up! I shouted.

As the helicopter did so, one of the police officers had somehow managed escape the bullets and grab my leg, pulling at it to make the ladder shake.

    You……you are under…..

I knew he was trying to say those four big words that could cost you up to a lifetime but he didn’t even finish before he collapsed onto another police officer who, again, had somehow managed to find their way to us. I looked down at them to make sure they weren’t moving any closer to us. They were still. Probably just fainted. When we got into the chopper, Akacia seized her bullets and sat down on the chair facing the window. Cecelia who was flying the vehicle, along with Savannah, who sat next to her, waved and gave us friendly smiles as if oblivious to what had just happened. Shadow went and took a seat at the far back as she got her phone and untangled earphones from her pants pocket, connected the two together and started listening to her music while I took a seat next to Akacia.

Hey, Riz, how you doing? she asked in her rough British accent.

I’m alright I replied, How have things been without me?

Alright, I guess in terms of….well, the rest of us. I don’t know if you’ve actually noticed but, Shadow, she seems to have distanced herself from us a bit in the last few days.

She uttered while looking at Shadow whose eyes were glued to her phone.

    Really?

Really!? Look at her, man! She could be talking to us right now, but there she is, on her phone, being totally unsociable right now! And that’s not the only time. Yesterday, she was on the computer for two and a half hours and the day before that, two hours, forty-five minutes. It’s like to her, we don’t even bloody exist!

I…I guess so… I spoke, drifting off and trying to remember Shadow’s actions in the past week.

I always thought she was just ill, not for one moment did I think she was doing this on purpose.

Beatriz! Akacia shouted in my ear, causing my bubble of thought to pop.

    What?

You remember anything now with that slow mind of yours?

I’m starting to, anyway. I said as she leaned across to Shadow and hooked her index finger to her earphones before yanking them off her ears causing her to lean forwards to us.

Hey, I was listening to music!

Music can wait. she told her, leaving her seat to the one next to Shadow, looking straight at her. What happened today, Shadow?

Almost immediately, I noticed Shadow’s face harden like she had something to hide. I also felt CeCe and Savannah shift out of their seats, leaning their bodies towards us slightly.

    Erm….Beatriz hasn’t already said?

No, Shadow, I’m asking you. What happened?

Well, she stammered, why would it matter?

Oh, I’ll tell you why it would matter! Imagine we’re sleeping, right. You’re gently falling asleep and you’re wondering what kind of dreams you’re going to have and you’re in your little duvet, just about to fall asleep and then you’re sleeping and you’re sleeping and you’re sleeping…. she said, gradually getting slower with her words for some reason.

CeCe put the helicopter on auto-pilot and shifted further to us.

Does anyone know where she’s going with this? she whispered.

    No idea. I whispered back.

…..and you’re sleeping and then suddenly! she yelled, making all of us jump.

Out of nowhere, the bloody police knock our door out and grab each of you lot by your oh so greasy, fine hair and they’ll be grabbing my luscious locks and we’ll be slammed into the back of a bloody police van and they’ll be lights and sirens everywhere and then we’ll be dragged into different cells and we’ll starve to death and we’ll have never gotten the chance to even date anyone-

Alright, alright! I interrupted Shut up and let me talk! ….Well, I began, This morning, when we raided the shopping center to try and find those idiotic boys who almost robbed us last week, I had to get some batteries as well for the thing I’m building so I went into an appliance store at the far end of the building. I took the nearest ones I could find but as I was heading out, I saw the police come in from that new door right next to the back. I was trying to come up with a plan to get out of there and then I saw Shadow a shop across from me. She still had her earpiece in so I called her for help. I told her to do a blackout on all the lights but instead she began running straight towards me. The police caught her off-guard and tackled her to the ground. I ran straight to them and took out enough for her to escape but then a female police officer-the one who was interrogating me- tackled me to the ground and then Shadow made the lights dim and I couldn’t see anything. Before I knew it, I was in an interrogation room.

Well, why didn’t you call one of us for help? Savannah asked.

My earpiece fell out when I was tackled to the ground.

And Shadow, where were you when the police caught her? CeCe questioned. I saw Shadow’s eyes widen and redden a bit as she spoke.

Akacia, she told me she’d be in the trinket store in case any of us needed her. I ran to get help but she wasn’t in there.

"No, Shadow, I said the jewelry shop-

Aren’t they the same damn thing!? She snapped back.

We all looked at her in surprise.

Shadow was never silent but she was never aggressive either. She must have been truly sorry, or even very annoyed. She looked back at all of us; she got up and jumped into the backspace behind the two seats and lied down so no-one could see her from where we were.

No-one should disturb me, was the last thing she said before she went into a deep sleep. We all looked at each other in confusion and uncertainty. There was something at the back of my mind telling me that the events of today were not the only things she was concerned about.

Savannah and CeCe shifted back to the main controls while Akacia and I stayed silent and pondered in our thoughts. About twenty minutes later, CeCe landed the chopper on top of our building. Both her and Savannah dropped out followed by Akacia I walked to where Shadow was sleeping and although she had blacked herself out, I could still hear her breathing heavily. I tapped her shoulder and woke up in an instant, making her color return.

We’re back at the warehouse now. I informed her quietly.

She nodded her weary head at me as she transported herself away, leaving me to catch up to the other three alone.

When we got to the warehouse and found Kendra on the sofa that was initially supposed to be facing the left like all the other furniture in the room, but for some reason was turned so we could only see Kendra’s short blonde hair and her t-shirt draped messily across her. She looked like she was on top of something and in fear of what I thought I was going to see, I told the others to stay behind as I slowly and silently reached the back of the sofa and it turned out that she wasn’t leaning on something but rather someone. She was in the middle of a heated make-out session with Andrew, a boy two years older than us appointed, by Missey, to help with everyday life. I thought this was completely inappropriate how he’d even been accepted into the house and what my eyes were seeing was disgusting! Their heads were moving in unison to each other’s tongues just swirling in each other’s mouths like washing machines. Her hands were placed firmly on his shoulders and his were slowly making their way down to hips. I grimaced at the sight of it.

    As I said, completely inappropriate.

    Kendra. I whispered to her.

Kendra. I whispered louder with still no response.

    Exhaling deeply, I shouted,

    Kendra, we’re being attacked!

She immediately stopped and ran to the closet, retrieved a gun and came out pointing it in front of us.

If you want to go, let’s go! she yelled.

We all just stared at her but Akacia broke the silence with a huge laugh as she walked towards her.

Kendra, put the gun down. There is no attack. Riz just said that so you would get off, sorry what was your name?

She turned her head to Andrew, whose hair was rough and shirt was undone. He looked so perplexed and who would actually blame him. One minute, a very stupid girl was on top of him kissing him to the point where his lips were red and swelling up, the next, four more girls were in the room and his kissing partner was on the other side of the room with a gun in her hands.

    Er, Andrew. he responded.

Akacia turned her head back to Kendra.

Right, so you could get off Andrew. You’re only fifteen, you know, no-one needs an extra baby along with you. Andrew, take my word for it, she is not worth it, man.

Haha, she sarcastically commented, You’re so funny, Akacia.

It’s a God given gift. It reigns in my blood.

Beatriz, are you home yet? came Missey in her usual sickly sweet tone through the intercom, I have your blueprints, Beatriz.

Shaking my head at Kendra, I walked into the closet and then closed the door as I pressed a code into blade imprinted with numbers and the closet, acting like an elevator, brought me down to a similar room without all the plush furniture and warm colors but rather wooden chairs, plain desks and cold colors.

Hey, Riz, how you doing? Take a seat, Missey began,
