    She came at me in sections of light and I’m not sure which of us was higher. Her, with fresh injection points in her arms and sclera contacts masking how dilated her pupils were, or me. Me with kaleidoscope eyes floating down a tangerine river, one more huff of exhaust away from the numb void I’d decided to chase that night.

    Anyway. She tripped, fell ass over tea kettle, and rammed into the transparent garage door of the auto repair shop I worked at. Scared the shit out of me. I thought God was pounding on the door, telling me He didn’t want to see me right now, if ever. I thought the car whose exhaust pipe I had my nose buried eyeballs deep in had driven into the wall. I thought my heart exploded.
