Sermons of Sylvia M. Barker - Sylvia Martin Reed

Repentance A Study by Sylvia M. Barker ©

    John 5: 1-13

We are a Triune People made up of a Body, Soul, and Spirit.

God is also Triune, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit but still One God.

Repentance is turning from our old life to a new one.

We then become new creatures in Christ.

    2. Corinthians 5: 17

Because of Adams Sin Father God had to find a way to redeem us.

God sent Jesus as a Baby through a Virgin named Mary.

The Holy Spirit came upon Mary, as she knew no man. Luke 1: 26-35

It was given Prophecy in Isaiah 7: 14

    Matthew 1: 22-23

Jesus was brought up, In Judaism being of the Jewish Line of the House of David.

He preached in the Synagogue when he was 12 years old and the Rabbi’s were amazed at His wisdom. Luke 2: 43-47

At age 30 He started His Ministry that lasted for Three and a half years.

In His Ministry many people repented and were Born Again. John 3:3

Jesus also healed all the sick and cast out demons.

In Adam we suffer death but the Lord sent a Champion to remedy the situation. That which we have lost in Adam is restored in Jesus Christ.

We have the choice to take the consequences of Natural Adams Sin or the benefit of Christs Spiritual Victory.

By one man’s sin we were all condemned, by one man’s Righteousness we were all redeemed.

By one sin we have all been made sinful and estranged from God, but now by the Pardoning Grace of God we can have our many sins forgiven.

Where sin abounds Grace does much more abound. Romans 5: 20

Adam partook of the Tree of Worldly Wisdom in Eden; on another Tree at Calvary Jesus hung as the Fruit that imparts Divine Life.

God has now completed all in Jesus Christ.

It is now our choice as to whether we choose Jesus or Satan.

    Jesus was Sinless 2, Corinthians 5: 21

    1: Peter 2: 22 otherwise without Sin.

It had to be someone who was Sinless to die in our place for it is the shedding of Blood that redeems us. Matthew 26:28

    Hebrews 9: 28

Just like it was in the Old Testament with the Jewish People when they brought a Lamb without Spot or wrinkle once per year to sacrifice for the sins of the people.

    Leviticus 9: 2

When Jesus Sacrificed His Life He was our Sacrificial Lamb, when He laid down His Life it was for once and only once. Hebrews 9: 28

He gave His Life for the whole World and the Blood was taken and sprinkled on the Mercy Seat in Heaven. Hebrews 12: 24 1. Peter 1:2

It then became the Perfect Sacrifice for every person, Past, Present and Future.

We can accept Jesus Christ by giving our lives to Him and being Born Again of the Spirit.

    John 3: 3

Jesus laid down His Life willingly, how many of us could do the same for others, or even ourselves?

He paid a great price for us to be redeemed, showing how much Father God really loves us.

    John 10: 17-18

Religion won’t get us into Heaven as good as it is, being in a Denomination won’t either nor going to Church!

There are no Denominations in Heaven only, Born Again Believers who belong to what is known as the Body of Christ.

Everyone needs to have a Personal Relationship with Jesus for it fills the void that everyone has within him or her, until they accept Jesus as Lord and are Born Again.

Until you are Born Again the Spirit within you is Spiritually Dead, but when you accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour your Spirit becomes alive.

Accepting Jesus is by Faith not intellect, the Word says, "Everyone has been given a measure of Faith

    2. Corinthians 5: 7 Romans 10: 17

As we accept Jesus by Faith God proves He is real to you so intellect doesn’t come into it!

Some people think they have to change before accepting Jesus Christ or be good, but Jesus didn’t say that.

He accepts you as you are, if He wants you changed He will change you and only He can.

Of course we need to be willing to want to change otherwise it won’t happen.

I am sure there are several of us who can testify to being changed by God.

To be a Christian is not for the faint hearted it can be very hard at times. John 16: 33

You may go through trials such as hurts, problems and even death of loved ones and friends, but Jesus is always there with you when you do. Hebrew 13:5

When you don’t have Jesus there is no hope in this life or the next. Lamentations 3: 25-26

When you have Jesus you have the Hope of Eternal Life.

Our time here is like a Candle that soon goes out. Proverbs 24: 20

We have to be prepared for where our Spirit is going to spend Eternity, for when we die we leave our body behind, our Spirit that is the real you, goes into Eternity.

Whatever decision we make here we will have to live with it, but who would choose Hell over Heaven?

God made Hell for Satan and his Demons.

    Matthew 25: 41

God never sends anyone to Hell, however people will go to Hell by their own self- will in Rejecting Jesus as their Saviour and Lord.

Please I beg you to really consider where you shall spend Eternity?

Hell is a real place and you would only be in there for one minute and want to get out!!

God has prepared a Mansion for you in Eternity.

    John 14: 1-3

If you give your life to Jesus one day you will be living in that Mansion that God has prepared just for you.

You may ask what is repentance? It is a turning around of the way you are going now and going Jesus way instead.

We all have to come to the same way by Repentance.

    Isaiah 55: 7 Acts 3: 19 Acts 4: 12

    ROMANS 5: 1-21

We are forgiven of our sins by faith otherwise we are Justified (just as though we had never sinned)

We have access by Faith to God rejoicing in our Spiritual Hope.

We rejoice in Tribulations for Tribulations works patience in us.

Patient gives us experience and experience hope.

Hope makes us not ashamed because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts.

Christ in due time died for us who were ungodly.

He didn’t die for a righteous man for a good man some would dare to die.

While we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

We are saved through wrath through Jesus.

Be reconciled to God through the death of His Son.

We rejoice through Jesus that we have been atoned.

Sin entered the world through Adam so death passed to all men.

While the law was in the world there was sin.

Spiritual death reigned from Adam until Jesus came for our Atonement.

Salvation is a Free Gift from God.

The Free Gift was too many by Justification.

Adam fell but Jesus Christ came to set all mankind Free.

Judgement came to all from Adam but Jesus Christ came with a Free Gift of Justification to all.

Through Adam we were all disobedient sinners, but because of the Obedience of Jesus Christ many shall be made Righteous.

Where sins abound Jesus Christ’s Grace did abound much more.

Sin reigned unto death but Grace reigns through Righteousness unto Eternal Life through Jesus Christ.

Every Blessing to all who read this, this is the start of an Incredible Journey if you care to make it through Jesus Christ.

    CHAPTER ONE

Why Pray for Isreal Preached at Pittsburg A.O.G.

    9-5-94 ©

Why Pray for Israel? Because God choose the Jewish People for His Son Jesus to be born through.

If you want Gods favour, Honour His People.

    Joel 3: 2

If you want Gods Wrath touch His People and God will take it up with you.

They are the Apple of His Eye,

    Zechariah 2: 6-9

Israel is smaller than Tasmania! Jerusalem is a Land of contrasts where every Nation under the Sun lives. One day it will be under the Son of Jesus.

Christians owe a debt to the Jewish People from them we received the Prophets, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Jesus is a direct descendant from Abraham.

    Matthew 1: 17

We also received the Apostles, Our Bible, Salvation and the Messiah Jesus.

The Bible that is a Jewish Book was written and preserved by Jews. Romans 3: 1-2

Luke is thought to have converted to Judaism.

By far the Greater Part of the Bible is a record of Gods dealing with the Nation of Israel especially in the Old Testament.

Salvation is of the Jews. John 4: 22 if there had been no Israel or Jews we would not have had Jesus Christ.

Jesus despite what some people think is not a Christian, He is Jewish and was brought up the Jewish Way.

Jesus would have taken His Bar Mitzvah at 12 like all other Jewish boys.

At age 12 he was taken to Jerusalem with his parents Mary and Joseph for Passover. After they left Jerusalem on the First day’s journey they thought that Jesus was in company with others, when they couldn’t find him they turned back again to Jerusalem seeking him.

They eventually found Him in the Temple with the doctors and Rabbi’s listening to them and asking questions, all those that heard Jesus were astonished at his Wisdom. Luke 2: 44-49

Jesus came for the Jews First

    Matthew 10: 5-6

    Matthew 15: 22-28

The Key Verse in Matthew 15 is verse 24

The Jews rejected the offer of Salvation through Jesus Christ. Acts 13: 44-46

Even when Jesus sent Paul they again rejected the Salvation Message.

    Acts 28: 25-28

    Matthew 13: 14-16

The Cross Reference to Acts 28 and Matthew 13 is Isaiah 6: 9-10

At this time the Gospel had only been preached to the Jews, Jewish Proselytes and Samaritans who observed the Law of Moses.

The Apostles must have understood from Jesus First Commission Matthew 28: 19 that they were to Preach the Gospel to all Nations, but it had not yet been revealed to them that the Gentiles were to be received as Gentiles.

They seemed to have thought that the Gentiles must first be Circumcised and become Jewish Proselytes and keep the Law of Moses before they could be accepted into the Household of God as Christians.

Jews were scattered among all Nations and the Apostles until God led them out of the Nation of Israel they may have thought their Mission was to the Jews only. Act 11: 19

Although the Jews rejected the Message of Salvation Paul didn’t give up on them and neither should we! Romans 2: 10

    Romans 10: 1

The Jews are at present rejected, but not individually. The same Gospel is to be preached to the Jew First and also the Gentiles.

    Romans 1: 16

Gods, love for Israel is endless.

    Jeremiah 31: 1-3

He has never rejected them or broken His Covenant made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

God has great Jealousy for Israel and Jerusalem.

    Zechariah 1: 14

The Church in general has failed to Pray for Israel apart from a few individuals.

Christians often told me, You have a Burden to Pray for Israel, I don’t

In my opinion I believe it is a Command for all Christians to Pray for Israel not an option, if you Love Jesus you automatically love His Brethren who are the Jews. Matthew 25: 40

This was the First Scripture God gave me along with others to Pray for Israel.

Jeremiah 31: 7&10 For thus saith the Lord sing with gladness for Jacob (Israel) and shout among the chief of the Nations, publish you, praise you, and say O Lord save thy people the remnant of Israel

Hear the word of the Lord in the isles afar off and say He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a Shepherd does his flock"

Don’t think that lets any of us from praying for Israel, Australia is likened to the Isles afar off!

Psalm 122: 6 says, Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem they shall prosper that love her

Isaiah 62: 6-7 I have set watchmen upon they walls O Jerusalem which shall never hold their peace day or night; you that make mention of the Lord keep not silent and give him no rest, till he establish and till he makes Jerusalem a Praise in the earth

Praying this last Scripture, you are really Praying for Jesus to return.

Israel one day will be a Blessing for the whole world. Zechariah 8: 13 & 22-23

The reason God chose Israel was to be a Blessing to the whole world because He wanted them to reflect to the other Nations the manner in which He related to them.

They were to be His Shop Window so to speak, through which the Gentile Nations could look in and see the Blessing that come to those who serve the Lord.

God wanted Israel to be a Witness to all Nations Israel was His First Fruit Harvest

Jeremiah 2: 3 (Harvest refers to Nations)

Israel was the First Nation that God brought to Himself Israel is also an example to the Nations as how God deals with other Nations.

Although Israel failed in being a Blessing to the Nations she will one day take her rightful place and once again be a Blessing to all Nations.

The Church owes a debt to it Jewish Roots because of Israel’s stumbling it has led to the Gentiles Salvation.

Instead of fulfilling the debt to the Jewish People the Church has persecuted them instead.

We had the Pogroms in Russia we had Hitler trying to remove all Jewish People. Over 6 million Jewish People perished in World War Two.

In Past Centuries we had the Spanish Inquisition, the Crusaders and of course even Haman in the Bible in the Story of Esther tried to remove all of The Jews.

WHY ARE THE JEWS BEING EXPOSED?

Because they are God Chosen People and it is a satanic onslaught against Israel.

Everything that happens in Israel is of Satan: he is trying to prevent the Return of Jesus as when Jesus returns Satan’s time will be up!

This is one reason why we pray, For Israel with Psalm 122-6 Isaiah 62: 6-7 to hasten the Return of Jesus.

Jesus cares for His Chosen People as it says in Zechariah 1: 14-15 L.B. Then the Angel said, Shout out this message from the Lord of Hosts; don’t you think I care about what has happened to Judah and Jerusalem? I am a Jealous Husband for his captive Wife. I am very angry with the heathen Nations sitting around at ease. For I was only a little displeased with My People but the Nations afflicted them far beyond my intentions

Because of the Casting away of the Jewish People we as Gentiles were given Life through Jesus. Romans 11: 15

Let us turn to Romans 11 a much-neglected chapter in the Bible, if people read it and meditate upon it they will get convicted to Pray for Israel.

Romans 11 are about us Gentiles and the Jewish People.

Let us start at Romans 11: 18 with a few verses from this Chapter.

Verse 18. God gives us a warning in this verse.

Verse 19 We the Church are grafted in.

Verse 23 God can graft the Jewish People in again.

Verse 25 Blindness has come upon the Jew so that the Gentiles can come in. (Key Verse)

Verse 27 God is going to take away their sins.

Verse 30 We the Gentiles obtained mercy through their unbelief

Verse 31 we can show mercy to them so they too can obtain mercy.

Verse 32 God concluded them in unbelief so He can have mercy on all.

Let us remember if the Wild Olive Graft of an Idolatrous Gentile can be taken and grafted contrary to the Laws of Nature into a Good Jewish Olive stock how much more shall these Jews, which are the Natural Branches be grafted into their own Olive Tree. Romans 11: 16- 36

    Let us therefore remember that

    1. The Bible was written and preserved by Jews.

    2. The Saviour of the World was a Jew.

    3. The First Thousand Converts in the Church were Jews.

    4. The First Missionaries were also Jews.

The least we can do for the Jewish People is to pray for them and Love them.

We owe them a tremendous debt.

Romans 15: 27 It pleased them indeed and they are debtors, for if the Gentiles have been partakers of their Spiritual things, their duty is also to minister to them in Material things

As we the Church are the Body of Christ the Bride, so Israel to God is His wife.

Isaiah 54: 5 For thy maker is thine husband; for the Lord of Hosts is His Name and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole Earth shall He be called.

Jeremiah 31: 32 Not according to the Covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the Land of Egypt which my Covenant they broke although I was a Husband unto them, saith the Lord

My big Joke if God is Israel’s Husband, Israel to the Body of Christ the Bride is our Mother in Law!!

Please remember Jesus will come to Reign and Rule in Jerusalem Zechariah 8: 3

    Luke 1:32-33

He will not come to any other Nation to Reign and Rule.

God will Judge the Nations as to how they have treated the Jewish People.

    Genesis 12: 2-3

    Isaiah 60: 12 Matthew 25 32-34

One day Israel will be restored to its Rightful Place in God that is our hope in Israel

We as Kings and Priests, will Reign and Rule with Jesus in Israel. Revelation 5: 10 And He has made us unto our God Kings and Priests; and we shall reign on earth

Exodus 12: 7-8 & 11For the Jews there has been no Blood Sacrifice since A.D. 70

Verse 7 they need to get under the Blood

Verse8 they need to eat the Lamb that is Jesus and read and feast on the Word of God.

Verse 11 they need to get ready to go.

So this means we need to Pray for their Salvation.

Romans 11: 31 says, We can show mercy to them so they can obtain mercy

It is the least we can do, for all they have done for us!

God didn’t choose the Jews because they were special! But they are special because He did choose them!

    CHAPTER TWO

    Prayer ©

Prayer is necessary it is Communion with God provided certain conditions are met according to the Bible. Biblically considered it is a Force.

    PRAYER.

Prayer is communion it is not difficult it is like talking and sharing with a friend, that friend being Jesus.

God never made it complicated but people do!

    Psalm 63: 1-8 Psalm 73: 25-26 Luke 6: 12

Prayer is believing that God does all things well and for your best interest even if sometimes He has to say NO.

Prayer is Adoration of God because of His Greatness and Goodness.

Prayer is Thanksgiving to God because of His grace, Mercy and Loving Kindness.

    Psalm 50: 14 Psalm 95: 2 Philippians 4: 6

Prayer is Confession as sinful man or woman acknowledges their guilty disobedience towards God. Psalm 51: 13 Matthew 6: 9-15

Prayer is essential if you want to have a relationship with Jesus, through Prayer and the Reading of Gods Word you begin to know Jesus more and more on a personal level.

Prayer is entering in of deeper things of the Spirit that builds you up and edifies you, especially when you pray in the Spirit or Sing in the Spirit and use your Heavenly Language Tongues. 1. Corinthians 14: 4A

When you enter into this kind of Praying you are interceding.

Prayer is Intercession we may define it as a Petition on behalf of our neighbours or others.

    EXAMPLES

Moses for Israel Exodus 32: 32 Moses was willing to be blotted out of the Book of Life to save Israel.

Samuel for Israel 1. Samuel 7: 5-6 He was willing to Pray for Israel on behalf of the Israelites.

Job, Job 42: 10 He prayed for his friends and God rewarded him.

Prayer is Submission as Man or Woman abandon their own desires and surrender their will to Gods will. This Prayer is at its highest level submitting to Higher Authority than you.

    James 4: 7A

Prayer is actually a Weapon and even part of the Armour of God Ephesians 6: 10-18

It is the means by which we engage in the battle itself and the purpose for which we are armed day by day.

To put on the Armour of God is to prepare for Battle, as you know we are in a Battle every day but we can use the Blood of Jesus, The Word of God and Jesus Name as well as putting on the Armour.

Prayer is the Battle itself, with Gods Word being our Chief Weapon employed against Satan during our struggle.

To believe the impossible one must first see the invisible as Elisha did when he prayed for his servant to see. 2. Kings 6: 8-17

Prayer is calling or crying out, shouting out, or proclaiming.

Calling out loudly describes an attempt to get someone’s attention or for calling upon the Lord or upon His Name. Jeremiah 33-3 Isaiah 58: 1

    Isaiah 55: 6A Proverbs 3: 6

Prayer is asking in Jesus Name and believing in Faith that He can do it. Johns 16: 23-24

Jesus says you ask of God in My Name I will endorse that and God will give it to you.

As we take our privileges and rights in the New Covenant and Pray in Jesus Name it passes out of our hands into the hands of Jesus.

He then assumes the responsibility of that Prayer and we know that He said, Father I thank thee that thou, hears me, and I know that thou hears me always

    John 11: 41B –42A

In other, words we know that God always hears Jesus and when we pray in Jesus Name it is as though Jesus Himself were doing the Praying.

Jesus is at the Right Hand of God Interceding for us He takes our place. Hebrews 8:1

    Hebrews 10: 12

When we pray we take Jesus place here to carry out His Will and He takes our place before God.

The Possibilities enfolded in Jesus Name say to us. Whatsoever you shall ask of the Father in My Name He is giving us a signed cheque on the resources of Heaven and asking us to fill it.

    1. John 5: 14-15

If only we could comprehend this with our finite mind what possibilities would be enfolded for us.

After all Jesus lives in us and He Raised the Dead!! Have you raised the Dead recently?

    SUMMARY.

Prayer therefore have many promises to us as believers.

    Menorah

    21-10-2002 ©

The Lamp Stand or Menorah was in the form of a stylised tree and made of Pure Gold.

The Gold was hammered or beaten to fashion the Lamp Stand.

Jesus is Pure Gold and He was beaten by order of Pilate and hammered to a Wooden Stake at Calvary.

From the base and central column stemmed six branches rising to the same height as the centre.

    Six represents Sinful Man.

The Seven Lamps were placed one on the end of each of the branches and on the central shaft.

    Exodus 25: 31-40

All things are according to Gods Pattern.

    Numbers 8: 1-4 Hebrews 8:5

It was known as the Lamp of God Why?

God designed Six Branches along with the shaft of the Lamp Stand.

    The Messiah Himself now,
