First meeting
I assume that you know all about how most bands seem to have these epic backstories about how they met, formed the band, and rose to fame. At least any self-respecting music buff does. Well, this is our story. Who are we? Well, we are The Monochromic Rebellion. We are an Indy rock band. Still relatively unknown, but we are slowly rising through the ranks. In fact, we are going all around the United States, Mexico, and Canada with a huge music festival this summer. Before I get a head of myself I should probably tell you the story of how we, a bunch of misfits, became known as The Monochromic Rebellion.
* * *
It all started with Andy and I meeting early one cold March morning about two years ago. Everything just seemed to fall into place after that first meeting. I was sitting against the wall of the local coffee shop when Andy first noticed me. He had stopped to talk to me one morning after he noticed that I was always just sitting there. I was surprised to say the least when he had stopped to talk to me. The first thing that I noticed about him was the amount of black he wore, just like me, he wore all black. From his black combat boot clad feet to his long dyed black hair.
Hey.
I heard making me look up from staring at my hands. Are you okay?
I shrugged at him not really wanting to talk to anyone. I tried ignoring him until he left to go about his own business, but he just wouldn’t go away. He sat down next to me and asked if I had anywhere to go to get out of the storm that was approaching. Again, I only shrugged at him. I heard him sigh before standing up again. I thought he was just going to leave, but he surprised me by standing in front of me and holding his hand out to me.
It’s okay, I’m not going to hurt you or anything like that.
He smiled a beautiful smile that melted my heart and washed away all my worries. I just want to help you.
I slowly reach out and take his hand. He gently pulls me to my feet before reaching down and slinging my backpack over his shoulder and picking up my guitar case.
See, I told you that I’m not going to hurt you.
He says as he gently nudges my arm. How about we head back to my house now?
I reluctantly agreed with a nod of my head, but I still had my suspicions as to why he would just randomly want to help me.
By the way I’m Andy.
He held his hand out to me again. I shook it after a hesitant pause.
Nevaeh.
I quietly responded.
He leads me back to his car. Big shocker, it’s black. Once he helped me climb into it he went around to the driver side and climbed in himself. We drove for about ten or twenty minutes before coming up on a small homey looking light blue house.
Brace yourself.
Andy sighed shutting the car off. This is probably going to be rough.
I sighed and nodded at him, my face probably showing the fear of the unknown that I am currently feeling. He chuckled at me quietly and got out of the car and leading me to the front steps. He took in a deep breath and let it out slowly before opening the front door and letting me in before and closing again behind him.
Andy, is that you?
A high-pitched voice resounded throughout the house.
Yeah Amy, it’s me.
He replied walking towards the sound of clanking dishes with me following closely behind him. Hey, can I ask you something?
Sure, what is it?
She said in a much quieter voice.
Well, I um, I made a friend, and I want to know if she can stay here for a while.
He said in a quiet rush gesturing towards me standing behind him.
What?
I heard her ask.
No! absolutely not!
She said loudly sounding angry making me hide behind Andy.
Why, you’re the one always saying that I need to make more friends.
Andy stated looking back at me as he noticed I wasn’t right behind him anymore.
Yeah, people friends, not strays off the street that want to suck your bank accounts dry!
She said raising her voice even more making my eyes water as I realized what she was insinuating.
Amy! That was completely uncalled for, and extremely rude, even for you.
He said walking over to me and grabbing my hand. She hasn’t even mentioned money, and just because you haven’t had all good experiences with people doesn’t mean that all people are bad.
You never know.
She stated eyeing me with a suspicious glare. I can already tell that we aren’t going to get along at all, I hate it when people judge other people based on what someone else did or didn’t do.
Amy! That’s enough with the theatrics!
Andy yelled out holding my hand tighter. I’m sorry.
He said quietly looking down at me as he loosened his hold on my hand.
I said no, and that’s that.
She said loudly and I heard a loud bang like noise that made me jump and the hair on my neck stand up.
What the hell are you two in here arguing about?
A deep voice demanded making me cower behind Andy.
Your son found a friend this morning, Chris, and now he wants her to stay with us.
Amy said in a snotty tone. Even though he knows we don’t have the money to feed another mouth.
Is this her?
Chris asked looking over at me. She doesn’t look like she eats a whole lot.
He states smiling at me. You can stay here, sweetie.
He said making me look up at him again. You will have to do some things around the house to help Andy out.
I heard Andy let out a breath as he held me even closer to him. Look at it like chores, since that’s basically all it is.
Chris!
Amy screeched. You can’t possibly be serious!
I am completely serious.
He simply stated. Andy, his friend, and I are going to go and discuss some things; we will be back once you’ve calmed down.
We followed him out to a beautiful garden. I notice a combination of roses, lilies, irises, and sunflowers. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. I absolutely love the outdoors, and this is like a dream garden for me. We went out to the gazebo in the middle of the garden and sat there to discuss things. By the time we were done an agreement was reached that I would help Andy around the house, go back to school, and eventually get a job in exchange for room and board. Amy had called out that lunch was ready as we were all just sitting around talking and getting to know each other.
Okay, so we’re going to get some stuff for Nevaeh.
Andy said happily after lunch.
You better be home for dinner.
I heard Amy yell out just before the door slammed shut behind us.
Whatever.
Andy mumbled leading me back to the car.

I was wondering what I am going to do about work and school?
I asked as we came to a stop at a red light.
Dad will figure out the schooling situation.
He said with a shrug We will figure out the job situation once you’re settled.
How old are you?
He asked looking over at me.
"I’m
